Confession

Forgive me Father, it’s been 7 months since my last descale…

…and admittedly we live in an area with hard water so I’m sure a grave sin has been committed to my Sivia V1.

In all seriousness, when I’ve descaled in the past, I never saw any evidence of sludge removed during the process so I was skeptical it did any good. I even convinced myself we don’t have hard water, but my wife brought home a test kit to prove otherwise.

What do you personally use to descale your Silvia’s and do you see evidence from the cleaning that something is actually happening?
Visual evidence?

I’m just following the instructions detailed in an old Seattle Coffee Gear video on YouTube from 2009. There’s no directions on this URNEX box for espresso machines.

I think if memory serves me correctly this is the 4th time in the 2 years owning this V1 that I’ve descaled.

How often do you all descale your machines?

Clear this up for me, please:

“We have a list of all persons we have harmed and to whom we are willing to make amends. We made it when we took inventory”
Big Book pg 76

This gets confusing for a lot of people, myself included.

Did we make it when we took inventory?

The list made was a resentment list.
If you are like me, we have harmed people that we do not resent and thus they were not on the 4th step 4 column inventory.

I hear people mention a harms done others list.

How does that fit into the 4th step? Isn’t that mentioned in the sex inventory -“whom have we hurt” but that’s talking about sex inventory.

I’ve harmed others that had nothing to do with sex inventory.

I am interested in hearing from people who work from the Big Book.

How did people navigate this back in the day before rehab worksheets and before the 12 x12?

I’ve always gleaned over this pretending I understood but truthfully I’m confused.

When I get to 8 with a sponsee, I just have them add people from the 4h step plus people not on the 4th step. That’s what I did, with no explanation other than I knew I had people I needed to make amends to.

New Portafilter

The og portafilter for our V1 decided enough was enough and snapped while preparing my afternoon decaf espresso yesterday. Was I guilty of over tightening? Possibly. But she was old and nothing lasts forever. Panic struck wondering how I would navigate (caffeinated) coffee the next morning and then I remembered my trusty Vise Grips. The 2021 model portafilter is now on its way and this is my workaround until it shows.

In Miami in 24, Goose introduced me to the album Live Vol 1 by Parcels.

At some point during the FL run (think it was Lauderdale) Goose introduced me to Cinema 3000 by Common Saints. Both groups were new to me.

Who knew Goose was not only going to take over the majority of my vacation time and listening pleasure, but also enlighten me to other music.

Anything notable they played during Nola or Texas during set break you’d be so kind to share with me?
