Volkswagen infotainment screen does not turn on following repair
2011 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Executive
About a week ago, I picked my car up from the mechanic (I made the utterly braindead mistake of putting gasoline in the diesel engine- curse you BP), only to find that the screen no longer turned on. Before bringing my car in, while it obviously wasn't driving, the screen did turn on and work properly. I brought it back to my mechanic so he tested the fuses (they were all fine) and scanned the car for problems, which showed an error related to something fiber-optic?
I am not a car professional, and while my mechanic is very knowledgeable and trustworthy with engine issues, he does not know much about electronics. After I put gas in the car, he replaced the fuel filters, cleaned the pumps, and fixed a belt that had snapped- nothing he repaired should have affected the central screen according to him. I saw a video online that showed a similar issue on a 2015 Touareg where the screen would turn on and then switch to black, and in that video, he had a blown fuse which he traced back to an amplifier in the back of the car.
If anyone could provide some sort of insight or direction, I would be very grateful. I know that the logical next step is to take my car to a place that specializes in car electronics and infotainment systems, but I frankly do not have the money to pay for an expensive replacement right now. Listening to music in my car is one of my favorite activities, and I dearly miss it, as well as my backup camera and map.
Thanks again for any help.
