Leica Q3 for Landscapes? Crop mode.
Hi all,
I'm considering buying a Leica Q3 (28mm) solely for landscapes so that I only carry one system with me for longer hikes.
I am currently using the Fuji XT5+18mm f1.4 (27mm FF) and 23mm f1.4 (35mm FF) so I would be shaving off about 500g in weight which is considerable for my purposes.
A few questions:
I shoot about 70% using 35mm focal length. By cropping to 35mm I'm assuming you maintain the same depth of field as the 28mm as you are just cropping part of the image. Is this correct? So if shooting at f8 in 35mm crop mode you would have the depth of field of a 28mm at f8 but just cropped?
By cropping to 35mm, the camera keeps the centre part of the image which is the sharpest part of the image so no issues regarding corner sharpness?
Does anyone know at what f stop diffraction starts to become unacceptable? I'm trying to work out what is the camera's limit in order to achieve the narrowest depth of field possible. I know most of you are using the camera for shallow dof but as a landscape photographer I am looking at the limitations at the other end of the spectrum.
Any comments from real world experiences appreciated.
Thanks.
