10KW inverter, 10KWh battery, 14 500Wp trinasolar panels online Nov 24, 2025.

I did manage to actually record ~22KWh of electricity a month that's only reported by the meter. You've all seen it - that odd +100w-200w mystery draw when you are off grid and presumably is the power required by the inverter to perform it's normal operation. It seems to average in the 22KWh range and is also dependent on what the system is doing. This seems like something Sig could fix. All the winter drama - I could alleviate (maybe) with an additional sigstore10 battery, but there is no universe where the cost/benefit ratio makes sense.

Not much has changed since my 2Q post other than the replacement of my 4.5KW dryer with a heat pump design.

The only thing of note is that I still need to clean the panels as I do think it will increase generation a bit.

I will do a final post in January with my personal thoughts on the system. I encourage those that have not already set up tracking of their choosing to download the sheet and adjust the rates to make it their own. The math is correct.

Two pihole config with one up 24/7 and the other up only when my server is up (both run Ubuntu).

It all started with a game of fuck-around-and-find-out with my pfsense. It never finished an update and was completely trashed. Installed an old backup, loaded up the last backup configuration I had available and noticed my main pihole minipc was not working anymore (probably coincidence). Restored that from a backup and noticed the web interface was refusing connections even though pihole is working just fine. No android, apple or windows machine in the house can connect to the web interface, but I can connect to it just fine from any Ubuntu machine. I can connect normally to the pihole instance on my server just fine from any device. From the perspective of pihole, both the server and the N100 minipc are identical with both running Ubuntu 24.04LTS. The server just has a lot more software running on it.

Figured I'd just leave it alone and let things settle out, but that's now three weeks ago and I'm struggling to figure out what happened. Any ideas would be welcomed.

I had thought I saw someone post about connecting their system to Home Assistant. If you could give me a few links for 485 and/or modbusTCP, I'd appreciate it.

The why is that I need to trend what the system is calculating for PF/I/V and as close to real time as I can possibly get from it.

This is an update to my original post at the beginning of April with updated data from the last three months and including actual billing from Genesis.  It’s insane to me to think of generating a KWh of electricity, exporting that to the grid, paying 15% GST on my 12.5 cents, that KWh going to my non-solar neighbor who also pays 15% GST again at whatever rate their provider charges.  Double dipping on tax should be illegal.

Notes:

• System online Nov 24 (Waikato region)
• Dec data skewed due to offline operation for some period of time
• Hot water is gas (130L cylinder) hob is gas
• Have a 4.5KW hog of a dryer, but not used since system was installed so data not included (a heat pump style dryer is on my list)
• There is generally only myself and wife at home and I believe we are reasonably low-use humans at 10KWh to 15KWh per day with the most I've ever seen at 24KWh
• There was nobody home during the entire month of April, so figures are just for running the fridge, 2x freezers, some internet stuff and the security cameras/system
• I’m 99% confident in the math, but I have not yet configured for GST. I’m currently investigating the *HUGE* discrepancy in what the system reports as imported and what Genesis is billing me so I hope to have an answer on the next update

Excel sheet:

·       Collums B-E are directly from the sig app

·       G is is solar use + grid import divided by the number of days in that month

·       H is solar production divided by the number of days in that month

·       I is the % of what the system produced to what we used from that production

·       J is the daily connection fee of $1.455 per day Genesis charges me times # days in that month

·       K is what I get in $ for exported KWh times 12.5 cents I’m paid to export not subtracting GST

·       L is the 34.4 cents Genesis charges me per KWh times what I imported not including GST

·       M is basically the sum of J, K & L and if it’s negative, I pay not including GST

·       N is what the system saved me if I didn’t have solar and all my power came from the grid

Please leave your criticisms below. I don’t mind charging the battery from the grid, but I never ever, ever want to see it discharging to the grid.  Putting another cycle on a $9K battery for ~$0.80 will never be worth it no matter what kind of plan I’m on.

I’m so disappointed with exports that I have every intention of shutting that off January 1, 2027 and I’ll will also (hopefully) find a better provider.

My Acadia has 4 cameras. Someone please explain why there is no app that can turn them into a 360° dashcam while the car is in drive?

I'm trying to wrap my head around the difference between what the sigapp reports vs what Genesis has billed me. It's difficult to align data exactly due to day-to-weather and Genesis billing periods are not aligned to first-to-last day of any given month. Even with this issue, I cannot fathom why I'm seeing this kind of difference. Even with a nearly 1 month additional data from sig, I can't get anywhere near what Genesis billed me.

Genesis bills covering Dec 8, 2025 to May 11, 2026: 193KWh imported

Sigenergy app reported Dec 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026: 107.7 KWh imported.

If it were a CT issue or meter issue, I would expect exported power to have a major difference as well, but this isn't the case with Genesis reporting 2484KWh vs Sig's 2755KWh with the same periods mentioned above.

Searching around on the dead internet this morning, the blame seems to point to phase imbalance on 3ph systems and while my meter is 3ph, I'm only using a single phase and I know for a fact that the other two are disconnected at the output of the meter. Everything runs though the solar setup so I am at a loss.

I was thinking about reactive power last night as I've never seen correction banks on the grid, but NZ doesn't seen to give a toot about PF and everyone's modern home creates a ton of reactive power. My meter is fairly modern 3ph Intellehub N4000 so I would think that it's measuring true power only. I'm long retired an no longer have the PQ meter I need to accurately measure this for my upcoming fight with Genesis, but maybe I'm overthinking this.

In case it matters, the system has been in self-consumption since it began operation on Nov 24.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have a system with a sigstor10 and it was initially set up by the installer or sigenergy to stop discharging at 20% and charge to 100%. I changed that to 17-97 on the thought that charging to 100% may not be the best setting for battery health. I've since changed that to 15-98. Really curious what others are doing and thoughts on the setting in general. My grid supply is very stable so it's not like I spend much time off grid anyway.
