FB Marketplace: A gold mine of bikes with insane value

Para saakin, bikes are indestructible. (except carbon)

I have 2 of my friends reach out to me about owning a bike. Both had no knowledge of bikes in general, pero knows how to ride a bike.

I helped them score good value bikes in fb marketplace depending based on their usecases.

Friend A: folding bike.

Atin-atin lang, pero the best folding bike for errands thats around ~10k php (2nd hand) out there is this Btwin 9kg singlespeed bike. Small wheels, single speed, 9kg, folds very little. It is simple, light and low maintenance.

We waited for a while until someone listed this bike sa fb marketplace at kinuha agad namin.

We got this for 7.5k (16k srp) and it looks almost brand new. After nya mabili, I told her about general things to check sa bike. Tire pressure and brakes lang naman. May sayad yung rear caliper and konti lang hangin ng gulong kaya I helped her fix it.

Friend B: Japanese bike

We had multiple options but ended with the second picture. Mainly because super lapit lang sakanila yung seller and paldo sa freebies. 3 locks, helmet, rear and front light. Gusto rin ng friend ko yung may front at rear rack so bagay na bagay to.

Scored for ~4.5k pumped the tires lang when we meetup with the seller and good to go na sya.

---

Both are single speed bikes kase I opted for simplicity and low maintenance. They are used for city commute on flat roads at distances of a maximum of 5k.

Overall masaya naman sila, and masaya akong I have new friends that commutes via bike!

Back to the saddle; burnout sa previous sport

Last year picked up a new sport/hobby which replaced cycling. Lately naburnout nako sa sport na yun kaya here I am back on the saddle. Mahina na uli pero tamang ensayo ensayo lang.

2 year old all rounder: Triban RC520

No plans on major upgrades. I currently use this as all around bike, commute, errands, long ride or short ride.

Pretty happy and still napopogian parin at never nasasawang gamitin.

Sa ngayon dalawa tires ko:

- Panaracer GK Slicks "+" 38c for multiday rides/touring.

- Continental Ultrasport 3 28C as default/commute/day ride tire.

Swipe right first pinch flat sa 28C at 12am. Fixed in 15mins thanks to my frame pump.

Lesson learned wag tumakbo ng mabilis sa madilim na lugar lalo na kapag di mo kabisado kung may lubak or hindi haha

From 38c to 28c; large difference or placebo?

2 days since I switched from 38c Panaracer Gravelking Slicks "+" version to 28c Continental Ultrasport 3.

And sobrang napansin ko ung difference sa acceleration. maintaining speed at rolling resistance ng bike. Parang mas magaan at mas madaling iaccelerate umg bike nung nagpalit ako.

Placebo effect or legit?

From ~18-20kph kwentuhan pace to ~20-25kph

Parang mas madali din iahon. Checked the bike weight and parang almost 1kg difference ata nung pinalitan ko ng gulong.

Rainy errands ride

kesa sa backpack, mas ok pala tong saddle bag na nabili kong 2nd hand sa lezyne for quick errands. May inabot lang sa tropa at may binili sa decathlon.

[First-timer] I can't see which footholds are on the route mid-climb

New to moonboard. I used to climb on grasshopper which has LEDs on middle part of the holds. Sent some V3s on the grasshopper board in 25°

I tried out a new 25° 2024 moonboard on the gym. When climbing my first V1, I got so confused mid-climb because I cant see the holds that my foot can step onto 😭

Is there a trick to this or do i rlly just need to memorize which holds to use?
