Which Linux distro would you recommend for my Asus tuf laptop?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a Linux distro that I'll actually stick with, and I'd love to get some recommendations based on my laptop.

Laptop Specs:

  • Model: ASUS TUF Gaming A15
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop (4 GB VRAM)
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD (planning to upgrade to 1 TB later)

A bit about me:

  • I'm a Computer Science (AI/ML) student.
  • I mainly use my laptop for Python, C++, VS Code, Docker, Git, AI/ML projects, and general software development.
  • I also do some light gaming occasionally.
  • I care a lot about a clean, modern-looking desktop and enjoy customizing my setup.
  • I don't want to spend all my time fixing my system, but I also don't mind learning Linux.

What I've tried:

  • Ubuntu
  • Fedora KDE

The issue that i faced with ubuntu was that i was not able to use the brightness feature i tried so many options but i couldnt fix it the brightness was sticked to the same value.

Given my hardware and use case, which distro would you recommend and why? I'd especially like to hear from people using ASUS TUF laptops with NVIDIA GPUs.

Thanks!

Which country should I choose for an MS with an 8.5 CGPA: USA or Australia or any other countries?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently pursuing a B.E. in Computer Engineering (AI & ML specialization) in India. If everything goes according to plan, I expect to graduate with around an 8.5 CGPA.

I'm planning to pursue an MS in Computer Science/AI/ML and I'm trying to decide between Australia and the USA.

my_qualifications:

  • B.E. Computer Engineering (AI & ML specialization) – currently pursuing
  • Expected CGPA: ~8.5/10
  • Building projects in AI/ML and full-stack development
  • Learning RAG and LLMs
  • Planning to complete internships and, if possible, research before graduating

My long-term goal is to work abroad after completing my master's.

My questions are:

  1. Which country would you recommend for someone with my profile?
  2. Is an 8.5 CGPA competitive for good universities in the USA or Australia?
  3. Which country offers better career opportunities in AI/ML after graduation?
  4. What should I focus on over the next few years to maximize my chances of getting into a good university?

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have studied or are currently working in either country. Thanks!

Feeling lost. Want to learn DSA in Java and AI/ML, but I don't know where to start.

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling pretty lost right now when it comes to learning programming. I know what I want to achieve, but I have no idea what the right roadmap is.

My goal is to get good at Data Structures and Algorithms using Java for coding interviews while also learning AI/ML because it's a field I'm genuinely interested in.

The problem is that there are so many resources, roadmaps, and opinions online that I end up overthinking instead of actually learning.

I'm currently doing engineering, and my 4th semester is almost over, so I feel like I should have a clearer direction by now.

Another thing I've noticed is how distracting the internet can be. One day I was watching videos about DSA, the next day it's MongoDB, then full-stack development, then AI, then DevOps. By the end of the day, I feel like I've consumed a lot of content but haven't actually learned or built anything.

I'm starting to think it's better to focus on just 2–3 core areas instead of trying to learn everything at once.

Has anyone else gone through this? How did you decide what to focus on, and what would you recommend for someone with my goals?
