Armpit chaffing

Armpit chaffing

I started running 4 miles with my Labrador. She pulls so I use this harness with the leash on her chest. However, I see she has developed chaffing and a sore under her armpit. I need help finding the best harness for running with a strong dog. Thanks!!! 😊

L7 Giant Asian Mantis

Since becoming an l7, I’ve noticed “wasabi” seems to digest quickly! I’ve been feeding her medium dubia’s. And I start to see a little intercostal membrane- just a bit. By the next day, her abdomen is nearly flat again!
I’m curious what size prey everyone is feeding their giant Asian at this instar.
I have a lot of large dubias, too many, and I’d like to feed those out!

Would you feed her?

It’s been 5-7 days since she ate a dubia. She hasn’t fully flattened. 2 days ago she started showing hunting behavior- moving around a lot, really active. But she still wasn’t flat.

Full abdomen

Wasabi is an l6 giant Asian mantis that molted July 3rd. Her last meal was a medium dubia one week ago. She was looking less full yesterday, her abdomen wasn’t flat but it was less full than this. I went to give her another dubia but when I did, I started her by Picking her up in a different way than usual. She was breathing heavy after, abdomen pumping - I assume that’s breathing heavy. I put her back. Took away the dubia after awhile and left her alone. This morning she was like this- more full looking. I offered her a small dubia, she looked at it and showed no interest. Does she look ok? Any idea on why her abdomen is so full. Thanks

Behavior

Wasabi molted last Friday night. Today was her first time out. She was confident and inquisitive. She climbed on my daughter’s face like she usually does. She ate a strand of hair which I thought was weird. After about 15 minutes her whole demeanor changed. She laid flat on my hand and turned her head to stare in one direction. At one point she put her forearms straight out. I put her back in her enclosure- she was reluctant - and she is just still.

Feeding advice

I fed my l5 giant Asian mantis a Dubia that was just a little bigger than recommended about a week ago. I’m not sure the exact amt of days- but I’m
Pretty sure it was a week.
My blue bottle fly spikes haven’t hatched. All I have to feed her right now is another Dubia a little bigger than recommended . Her abdomen is not totally flat but I’ve never gone this long between feedings. I know I can cut up a Dubia but I realllllllly don’t want to unless absolutely necessary. I’m just really worried I’ve gone so long between feedings.

Enclosure lid advice

Here is my enclosure with cross ventilation holes. The lid has no ventilation. In photo 2 you can see I started drilling ventilation holes. Should I keep adding more holes and then glue screen mesh to the lid. OR should I remove the lid entirely and just have mesh screen on top? For the latter, I’m worried about stability at my giant Asian mantis grows and gets really big. Can an ALL screen top hold him?

Feeding question

I fed my l4 giant Asian mantis two days ago. She had a lot of hydei flies. Her abdomen still looks pretty rounded to me. I’ve never gone more than two days without offering her food though, except for a molt. This is my first mantis so I would love some advice on whether or not to offer her hydei flies today.

Feeding question

I am going out of town two weeks after my mantis’s molt. I’m worried she will molt while I am gone and my pet sitter won’t know all the signs to watch for. If feed her in the morning when I leave, and then no one feeds her until I return at night 3 days later, will she be ok?

Feeding question

Does anyone ever freeze blue bottle flies , thaw and feed later? For example, if you end up with way more than you can feed out before the pupae goes bad .
