Is engineering still possible?

Is it still possible to land a engineering degree at UNSW or USyd if I can't do maths extension 1 (i didnt get top 20 rank in my school to be able to do it)

I would be doing these subjects next year however:

Maths and english advanced, physics, chem, eco, investigating science

Is this ATAR possible, in all seriousness?

Hi, a Year 10 student right now, trying to aim towards 99 ATAR for doctor of medicine.

I am in a government school and here we have a selection process of being top 40 rank to get into extension 1 maths/english. I was aiming for ext maths, and up till now I had decent grades (A and sometimes B, for Year 9 and first exam year 10). However, I completely bombed my half yearly paper this term (expecting 60-70%) whilst a lot others did decent, and so the chances of me getting ext 1 are not good. I am still well eligible for math advanced, and so I plan to take these subjects in Year 11 and 12:

- Maths Advanced

- English Advanced

- Physics

- Chemistry

- Investigating Science (I am already doing this subject accelerated right now and will complete it's HSC next year)

Is it still possible to achieve such a high ATAR, as a student with these subjects and in a non-selective school? Please share any stories you know of people who managed to do it through academic comebacks/not-the-best scaling subjects/in similar situations like me

Thank you
