Does the pressure for marriage on early dates ever slow down?

Once is definitely enough for me, but it seems like almost every date I go on is ultimately looking for marriage down the road.

I'm mid 30s, and it feels like a lot of women around my age are dealing with a serious ticking clock. For the guys who have been out of the game for a bit.. does this dynamic change as you get older, or is this just the reality of dating in your 30s and 40s

My whole family lied to me about who my real father is for 33 years.

So a few months ago I found out my father isn't my biological father. I'm 33 and the youngest of 6 kids. My oldest sister is 15 years older than me. Honestly, I always felt like the odd one out and never connected with my brothers. I feel a bit stupid now that I didn't put two and two together. Looking back at old pictures and family videos, it’s completely clear that I look nothing like my non-bio father or my brothers. A part of me always thought that, but I just never really dwelt on it. I figured I would’ve been told if that were the case.

My oldest sister called me recently to tell me she got diagnosed with cancer. While we were on the phone she dropped this bombshell on me too. Turns out, when my parents were going through a rough patch back in the day, my mother had an affair with a married man. My non-bio father decided to stay and sign my birth certificate anyway to not break up the family.

They ended up divorcing when I was 9. Looking back it makes sense because my next oldest sibling was graduating high school at the time, and since I wasn't his biological kid, I wasn't his responsibility anymore once his actual kids were grown. Why stay with a cheating wife?

After they split, my mother had this "boyfriend" come around. Turns out that was my bio father but neither of them told me. He was still married at the time so I don't know how he even pulled that off. We actually bonded a bit, but I just thought he was my mother's new guy. She said he wasn't a good person when he stopped coming around and I never asked about him again because I didn't want to bring up the past even into adulthood.

The weirdest part is we had this pin up board in the kitchen growing up. There's a picture of me and this guy just pinned in the corner, standing super far apart. It's literally still there today. I always thought it was weird my mother kept a random picture of an ex on the wall, but now it makes sense. It's the only picture I have with the guy.

When I found all this out I immediately took a 23andMe and an Ancestry test to see what would pop up. It completely confirmed it's true. Doing some digging, I found my bio father, where he lives, and discovered that I have two younger half-sisters.

To top it all off, I found out all my siblings knew the whole time. Their excuse was just, "It's mother's responsibility to tell him." The thing is also that three of my siblings have families of their own with kids. Wouldn't they understand as parents themselves how important it would’ve been for me to know this? Telling me they knew about this for so long without saying a word just hurts on a completely different level.

Before all this I was actually planning to move back to be closer to everyone, but that plan has completely deteriorated. When I found all this out a few months ago I just cut everyone off. I was already going through some other major life stressors, so my stress was through the roof, and adding this on top of it was just too much. I needed space.

I don't really know if there are therapists who specialize in this kind of stuff or who to even talk to. It's super isolating because I can't talk to my family since they're the ones who betrayed me.

Am I overreacting by cutting them off? How do you even process something like this and move forward?

Did anyone else get completely conned into marriage only to get completely screwed over in the end?

I never wanted to get married. Growing up with parents who hated each other, went through a messy divorce, and dragged everything through the courts, I always told myself there was no point. Just a personal choice.

My long term partner of eight years and I were on the same page about it...until we weren't. Eventually the pressure from family and friends got to her, and she gave me an ultimatum. I didn't want to lose the love of my life over a piece of paper, so I went against my own values.

After the glamour of the wedding, the gifts, and all the attention, reality set in. Our relationship completely changed. It was like she knew she "had me" and the demands started immediately. I missed what we used to be. I missed the relationship we had before signing that paper.

Resentment on both ends started to build overtime as the demands became more and more frequent. She ended up cheating on me two years later. Luckily we don't have kids, but just reflecting on everything that happened, it makes no sense the push for a legal contract on something that was already good as it was.

I don't know how men can marry multiple times. This divorce process has been terrible. Do NOT get married in the state of California!

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Do you think social media has a lot of influence on my future divorce?

Well, I got the bomb dropped on me 3 days ago that my wife wants a divorce. We are mid 30s with a 3 year old son and have been married for 5 years. Like a lot of guys, I thought our relationship was solid, but apparently not.

She told me we got "too comfortable" and that she needs to "find herself." Honestly, I don’t understand it. Don't people want a comfortable, stable environment to raise a child? I have a nagging feeling there is someone else..whether it's someone from work or whoever is sliding into her DMs but I can't confirm anything and I hate making assumptions.

What hurts the most is the suspicion that we didn't have the "picture perfect" Instagram posts and parent TikToks that she wanted. In her culture, social media seems to be everything. I am completely heartbroken over it.

Has anyone here experienced something similar, and do you have any advice on how to move forward?

What's with everyone's obsession with safety wire?

Is it just a student thing? In my 26 years of experience, I've never seen so many people get so angry over the amount of twists in the safety wire. I'm baffled

How often will I use Eddy Current in the field?

My classmate is telling me that I need to know the ins and out of Eddy and that companies will test me on it before hire. I went up to the teacher and he said the same thing. I'm stressing because I failed the test on it.

How do you recover financially and rebuild trust after a divorce caused by money?

In your experience, have you dealt with partners who just have no concept of money? My ex would spend like crazy. I was supporting her, our son, and her family all while they were in debt but I was still the 'bad guy' for not being there enough. She was an only child, so she expected me to handle everything, and it was never enough to satisfy her. I felt the pressure of utang na loob hanging over me the whole time. It was exhausting, and I’m definitely not going down that road again.

Did anyone else end up divorced shortly after giving in to pressure to have children?

My ex pushed hard for us to have kids. I didn’t want them, but I gave in. Less than two years after our son was born, she initiated a divorce. I keep asking myself..why the rush to start a family just to blow it up two years later? It feels like a massive contradiction I’m still trying to process.

Does anyone else experience the people from school acting like these are the hardest tests to take?

You memorize the answers for written and orals. They are given to you lol. The practicals are open book. If you fail, you pay and do it again. Yes, some of the written verbage is changed but it's literally the same answers. I even see people buying each other's notes and flashcards. One kid even started crying because he failed the practical part and was telling everyone he couldn't get enough sleep because he was anxious about it. I've taken everything just off memoizing just fine. I was told I'm going to brain dump it all anyways. Has anyone else noticed this at their school? or is it because the barrier of entry to this field isn't that high to begin with?

I requested a 422 from my medical group 6 months ago for a possible retrain into a new career field. I never received a 422 but got an email recently saying I'm going to IRILO? Nothing has changed medically with medications or anything. I just had my PHA around that same time and I've been all green since.

Is this normal? What should I expect.
