Beer Mile Sat June 27!

Local non-profit Pro-Animal D.C. is hosting a beer mile this Saturday, June 27 at Benjmain Banneker High athletic track!

Check in starts at 7:30 PM, gun goes off at 8 PM.

Details and RSVP on the Partiful event!

Registration is $25 and you can sign up by filling out this quick form.

Your entry fee goes directly towards helping end factory farming and will be doubled thanks to a match by a generous donor!

This event is completely BYOB. No glass, please. Cans or plastic bottles only. If you’re under 21, don't drink alcohol, or just prefer a different vibe, you are absolutely welcome to swap the beer for your favorite soda, seltzer, or kombucha. We won't be checking IDs, so please just follow the law.

Feel free run or walk, or just come and watch!

It will be quite the spectacle as I'm attempting a sub-5 beer mile and at the mercy of four lucky donors who will be choosing the beverages I have to drink.

We'll have music and pizza!

There’s a small parking lot at 10th Street Baptist 10th St Baptist Church. Otherwise, street parking is the best option.

Questions? Contact sam@proanimal.org

Hope to see you there!

Portland bans foie gras!

By a margin of 7-5, Portland City council voted yesterday to end the sale of foie gras!

This was a joint effort led by Pro-Animal Future and shows that when we organize and keep showing up, we win!

We won in Portland, but Pro-Animal Future’s chapters in DC and Denver are in the midst of putting foie gras bans on the ballot and they need your support. Monthly donations are being matched dollar-for-dollar through the end of the year!

Ending foie gras in three major cities would make a huge dent in the market and make it very difficult for the two factory farms in the US to continue to exist.

Here's the link to donate!

Portland Foie Gras City Council Vote!

🔥 Let’s Pack City Hall for the Force-Fed Foie Gras Ban Vote 🔥

This is the moment we’ve been building for! This is the second and final reading and will include council discussion and the vote! There is no testimony this time, but we still need to pack the room to show broad public support. The number of supporters in the chambers will influence how the council votes and a strong unified presence could be the difference.

You don’t need to live in Portland to attend. Everyone is welcome, and it doesn’t matter where you live or where you’re registered to vote.

📅 Thursday, June 4 , 2026

1:30 PM in-person meet up inside the main foyer on the ground floor of City Hall (SW 4th Ave entrance). Meeting starts at 2 PM.

📍 Portland City Hall and Youtube (Livestream)

Details and RSVP

We are the second item on the agenda, so we expect to be on shortly after 2PM. Council has allocated one hour for our item, so we can expect to finish around 3:30 PM.

Youtube Livestream: proanimal.org/livestream

Let’s bring a respectful, energized, and unified presence.

What to expect:

Council will finish discussing the foie gras ban and then vote whether or not to pass.

How you can help:

✅ Attend in person

What to wear:

If you have a Pro-Animal Oregon shirt, please wear it. If not, one will be provided for you.

Polite request: please avoid shirts that mention veganism or could be interpreted as vegan messaging so we keep the focus on the ordinance and make it easy for everyone to feel included.

Parking near City Hall can be limited, so please plan extra time and consider carpooling, biking, or transit if you can.

Let’s pack City Hall with supporters. We need a strong showing for animals.

Please reach out to sam@proanimal.org with any questions.

Looking for someone to take photos

Hi!
I’m looking for someone who’d be up for taking photos at the foie gras city council hearing on Wednesday at 11AM at Portland city hall. We’ll have a camera for you to use.

We use these photos for things like newsletters and campaign updates, they are super helpful for us to share what we’re doing and build momentum and support so we can continue to help animals!

If you’re up for it, email sam@proanimal.org.

We had an amazing turnout at our foie gras city council hearing yesterday! Well over 50 people showed up in person, nearly 75 people gave verbal testimony in support, and we had over 400 written testimonies submitted in support. Thanks for showing up if you were able to make it.

If you’d like to watch the recording of the meeting, it’s available here. The foie gras item runs from about 0:35 to 2:00.

There wasn’t time for a council discussion, so there will be two more readings for our foie gras ban. The first will be council discussion and the second will be the actual vote. I’ll share more details about these meetings as soon as I learn them!

In the meantime, we can reward the councilors who are already supportive (Mitch Green, Jamie Dunphy, Sameer Kanal, Angelita Morillo, and Tiffany Koyama Lane) with support! They have really stuck their necks out to get our foie gras ban to full council!

The best way to support Mitch, Angelita, and Tiffany is through campaign contributions. They’re all up for re-election this year and are participating in Portland’s Small Donor Elections program, which means your impact is magnified by 11 times!! If you’re a Portland resident, your first $25 is matched 10-to-1 by the city. A $5 donation actually puts $55 into their campaign!

Donate to Mitch Green

Donate to Angelita Morillo

Donate to Tiffany Koyama Lane

Since Jamie and Sameer aren't up for re-election this year, they’re not currently in a fundraising cycle. We can still flood social media, news articles, and Reddit threads with supportive comments to show that we have their backs.

Here’s some guidance on how you can engage with press coverage that we’ve received to help show public support ahead of council discussion and the vote!

I’m super proud of how this community showed up yesterday and eager for Council to discuss! Let's keep this momentum going!

Testimony registration for the Portland foie gras city council hearing next Wednesday (4/29) is now live!

You’re encouraged to give verbal testimony (in-person or remotely) AND written testimony (asynchronous). Verbal testimony is easy and short, just one sentence. Written testimony is also helpful as it ensures your support is on the record. Either way, online registration is required!

You should register/submit as soon as possible. When submitting written testimony, be sure to select support.

Register for testimony here!

We’ll have an in-person meetup at 1:30 PM at City Hall!

Details and RSVP here!

Reach out to Sam at sam@proanimal.org with any questions!

This is how we show up for animals!

Does anyone have a vet they'd recommend in the Portland metro area?

I'm looking for someone who might be willing to speak at the Foie Gras City Council Hearing next Wednesday.

Testimony from a veterinary professional would be very compelling and it will be even more powerful if it comes from someone who’s local!

Thanks!
