Melovars Tale: Roguelike Deckbuilder Story
I just wanted to let everyone know and hopefully enjoy a passion project of mine. I created a roguelike/roguelite deckbuilder which released over the weekend and I have been blown away by the support and feedback! Melovar's Tale is my StS inspired idea with a focused character, lore, epic crazy battles and hair rising audio lines! I hope others can enjoy it and follow for updates on DevNiad and see more at www.melovarstale.com -- If you have the time please read my story below and check i, as well as the trailer!
Game Title: Melovar's Tale
Steam Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4582580/Melovars_Tale/
Platform: PC
Description: Melovar's Tale is a roguelike deckbuilder where every run is different. Choose from a roster of champions, that have their own card pool, playstyle, and passive ability. You kind of fight through tactical combat, go through events, and deadly boss encounters, an StS inspired piece basically. Build weird and crazy synergies from over 300+ cards and 125+ relics and Consumables and push your strategy to the limit across escalating difficulties. Between runs, unlock new cards and perks through a deep meta progression system to enhance the runs. Whether you like the brute force approach, the elemental power surges or detonating a 15 stack Deathbloom on a boss for a clutch victory, no two runs play the same. I focused heavily on Lore, Audio Lines and Interactions to really develop the story.
My Inspiration
The world of Melovar's Tale was born from a deep love of card games and roguelike deckbuilders. The character of Lord Melovar had actually been in development for years, his backstory, his lore, the land of Eodolas and the realm of Stormgale Mountain, all these things were just floating about in my head. Essentially the story of good and evil and the strength of the human spirit etc. I've always had that feeling of wanting to be some sort of hero, I think many of us probably do.
The biggest part of my inspiration is my 13 year old nephew, Aariz. He helped create a number of cards and relics with his own vision in mind. I had never seen him so happy to be involved. He lives with me ever since my Sister passed away 3 years ago. After going through a tough phase (much better now) he started to be his old self. He is a deep Nerd like me, and all of his uncles, that's what his mum used to say. He has drawn over 10,000 dragons by now Lol! But we all could appreciate it, growing up with D&D and RPGs etc. I used his love of fantasy gaming as a source for my designs and vision. Every relic, card and lore piece has been designed with intention and with his input. The goal was never to create just another card game, but to build a world that players could immerse themselves in, and learn about over time as it expands.
! FUN FACT !
I spent so much time developing the character, backstory, and lore of Lord Melovar that it came top ten in a hero concept competition for a mobile game called AFK Arena about 10 years ago. It was a competition for the public and I had won a prize for the Hero Concept which was maybe 500-600 thousand participants. The story of Lord Melovar was created years before this game was even conceptualised.
Lord Melovar, the Heart of the Kingdom is more than just a game character. He represents the values of sacrifice, loyalty, and the unbreakable bond of family (mine). His story was crafted with depth and care. How I feel about my life and what I wanted, and how to put that vision of who I would be into this character.
That is all I wanted to say!
It is a passion project more than anything else, and I just want people to read it and hopefully spark something in them in some way, who knows!
Thank you all for your time :)
