>...

>“Jon?”

>The man who had died and lived again lay on his back.
The sand about him felt unlike snow.

>“Jon, can you hear me?!”

>His pale eyes tried to open.
Something about the place felt cloying.
Like it wanted him to go to sleep.

>But there was a voice. A man’s voice. One he’d never heard before and yet...it felt like he had.

>“Jon, wake up!”

>He felt breath creeping back up his throat as he murmured.
‘Father?’

>"Fuck’s sake, you’re hopeless!”
There was a pause and an irritated-sounding sigh as the voice grew louder. Distinctly noble-sounding but harsh, clipped and gravelly, utterly devoid of courtesy.
“Jon?!”
It groaned before all but bellowing.
“Aegon?!”

>Jon Snow gasped suddenly and scrambled to his feet.
He took in the surroundings.

>He was standing on snow. And yet it wasn’t snow.
It didn’t feel cold. The flakes of frost floating around him and beneath his feet felt dry and papery.
And the snowflakes didn’t fall and land, they spun around, continuously.

>“Welcome back, shithead.” The morose voice sounded again “Look this way please.”

>Jon turned around and blinked again.

>A figure stood before him, dressed all in black, just as he was.
But he was slightly shorter and leaner.

>As Jon’s vision began to focus, he became aware of the figure’s distinct face.
He was shockingly pale, almost as much as his long silver hair and scraggly beard.

>His left eye was missing, a deep scar running down that part of his brow.
And across the right side of his face was a red winestain-birthmark in the vague shape of a raven.

>He was scowling at Jon with impatience, his remaining eye a deep crimson.

>He spoke again.
“Why in Seven Hells did he name you Aegon?! Could he really think of any other names?” he shook his head, his one good eye rolling “Your father always was the stupidest Targaryen!”

>Jon Snow stared, barely able to stand up straight.
Confusion ruled his head, his mouth running ahead of his mind.
“Wh-who are you?!”

>The figure gave him a look of stunned contempt.
“...Seriously?!” he snapped “Please tell me you’re joking. I did not come this far to let us get this stupid!”

>Jon clasped his face and fought hard to gather his senses.
He spoke to the man more directly, breathing heavily.
“Are...Are you...Brynden Rivers? ...Bloodraven?

>Brynden Rivers shot him a disdainful look, raising the brow of his good eye.
“...Well done. What gave it away?”

>“But...” Jon burbled “You’re...you’re dead!

>“I haven’t forgotten.” Bloodraven scoffed “Don’t make such a big thing of it, it happens to everybody...well...usually.”

Monterys found Davos resting his back against a tree, watching his weeping wife hugging his son, their last surviving son.
Around Dale, his sisters clutched his shoulders silently.

The smuggler didn’t turn his head as his young charge approached.

“They’ve been through hell.” He murmured glumly “And I had no idea.”

“You were here when it mattered most, Ser Davos.” Monterys replied ardently “You’ve saved them.”

“No. I couldn’t have done it without you and Salladhor and Rowena and the others.”

Others?” Monterys gave a small chuckle “Chicory would be upset you said that.”

Davos smiled.
“It’s all a bit of a blur. I don’t think I’ve been so frightened since the Long Night, perhaps even more.”

“It was alright in the end though.” Monterys patted his shoulder, glancing at the smuggler’s wife and children “They just need some time. We’re heading off soon, the Jostler’s waiting. Our men at Storm’s End will be expecting us.”

Before he turned, Monterys felt a maimed hand rest on his shoulder.
Davos Seaworth was giving him a look that felt unfamiliar.

“H-have I done something wrong?”

“No. No, lad.” This time, Davos laughed “I need to tell you something...You know of Jon Snow? Or Prince Aegon the Sixth, if that’s really the name he goes by. Personally, I think it’s a bit unoriginal...”

Monterys gave an uneasy look. Davos had a feeling he would. The whole realm knew of Daenerys’s long-lost nephew and accidental lover.
“I’ve...only heard a few things.”

“Aye, well, best you hear it from me, lad.” Davos replied “Yes, he and the Dragon Queen loved each other. But when the Imp told everyone who Jon really was, not sure what he was thinking either, everything cracked, ready to shatter and fall to pieces.”

He shook his head, remembering those sorry days of treachery and misery. ‘The Mirth of Cersei’ some on Dragonstone were already calling it.

“Back on Dragonstone, everyone was telling Jon to ‘be who he was meant to be’, words that meant something different in the mouths of everyone who said it...”
Davos turned to Monterys, his face candid and clear
“Then a simple smuggler with no knowledge of kings and succession asked a simple question...”

He took a deep breath, his chest rising and falling as he remembered the words.
What if, for once, the Seven Kingdoms were ruled by an honourable man and a just woman?

Monterys paused, weighing the question.
“...but Jon could not accept.”

“No. But you have...”

Davos placed the better of his hands on Monterys’s shoulder and smiled, his salt-and-pepper beard arching with his lips.
“Lad, I must confess, I didn’t just take you out here on the Dragon Queen’s orders, nor on Sansa’s...I wanted to see for myself what sort of King you might become.”

Monterys blushed, scratching the back of his silver hair.
“Ah...Well, if I’d known I’d be compared to Jon Snow...”

“But you didn’t, Monty. That’s the point.” The smuggler interrupted “You didn’t know who you’d be compared to or competing against, just that you’d be sailing with me and doing everything you could...And while things didn’t go at all to plan, I couldn’t have been prouder at how you adapted to it.”

The young Lord of Driftmark stared at the old sailor, his words flooding his chest with a sense of buoyant bombast.
He felt like he was made of gold.

“You’re wondering if you’re ever going to be up to it. You’ve been asking that all your life, no doubt.” Davos continued “Lad, I know little of crowns and thrones. But I'm an honest man, as all the kings and queens I’ve served could tell you."

He beamed at his young charge.
"So let me tell you honestly, you’re already up to it.”

And with that, he stooped and got to one knee as Monterys stepped back, staring at the man who’d come into his life these past days as a mentor and now knelt before him.

“Monterys Velaryon...You are an honourable man. And if you would rule these Seven Kingdoms beside Daenerys the Just...”
He raised his head and placed his fist in his palm.
“Then I am your man...My King.”

What Did Jian Shuo Do?

I've been trying to find stuff on what he did but some of it seems contradictory.

Is there any general record on the things he did during his time as a senior attendant?

Need Advice From People Who Understand Financial Jargon

I'm working on a fic where Daenerys will find some way to negotiate herself out of the debt with the Iron Bank, either completely or in a significant portion so that by the time she takes the throne, she's not facing a massive financial collapse.

I know virtually nothing about how loans work so could I get some advice from someone who knows at least enough to help me with this scenario?

It'd be a situation where Dany doesn't threaten or intimidate, just negotiates beside her close advisors to write off at least a large part of the debt, exploiting a large number of loopholes and clauses and using all sorts of financial legalese to blindside Tycho Nestoris completely.

A Braime Fic where Jaime comes to terms with the fact that his relationship with Cersei is a lie and that it's Brienne he loves.

Chapter 29: The fight against the slavers picks up on Greenstone, a place of great history, where the hardy Ser Langdon Estermont faces off against Ironborn and Yunkai'i.
Until at last, the blue sails emerge through the sea-mists.

Elsewhere, in a wheelhouse riding up the Bywater, young Dale Seaworth has found himself at the mercy of his new buyer and searches for an escape despite the threats looming over him.

>Langdon stared the man down a moment as a heavy silence filled the chilly damp air.

>Then he sighed and spoke with ardour.
“The Seven cannot be chained, Saltcliffe. And they do not kill for they do not destroy what they build.”

>His made a fist behind his shield.
“The Seven are gods of peace and love who gave us thinking minds to grasp their wonder and speaking tongues to tell of it. Your Drowned God gives you nothing, he only takes, demanding blood and misery be sown in his name. For him and his servants, the love that folk have for each other makes them weak. And you think us weak. And stupid. And false. But you know that you are wrong, you are desperate and you are alone.”

>He all but bared his teeth as he spoke.
“Your god does not care if you die today and nor do your people. You believe that iron is the law by which you may rule the world but it is not so. When men rise against you with your own weapons you are always driven back into the sea. Men need not fear you, nor women and children. You should not have come here. The storms are fierce in this land but we of Greenstone know that they always pass. And calm winds and a fair sun return to our skies...again and again.”

>Old Lord Saltcliffe blinked.

>Then he scoffed in a somewhat tired fashion.
“...So you won’t surrender? That’s really all we needed to know.” he scoffed with a sarcastic shrug “This is a shame. I thought you had you had more concern for your poor people, more care for the lives of those beside you.”

>The Knight of Greenstone raised his chin defiantly.
“I have such care for these people that I would sooner die helping them defy you than stand aside and watch them suffer as your thralls.”

>He pointed at the walls as dozens of faces looked down at them, all with bated breath.
“I did not push them into fighting, they found that strength by themselves and I choose to share in that strength.” Langdon professed “It is a strength greater than iron, greater than the storm, and it is a strength you will come to fear.”

>He spoke with fire in his chest.
“Perhaps you should leave, Lord Saltcliffe. You and your foul-mouthed friend. Go back to the bay from whence you sailed and speak with the Dragon Queen. Kneel and beg her pardon for the crimes you carried out upon her people. She may yet be forgiving.”

>And with that, he clasped his helmet and drew it over his head, his voice booming behind the mask of steel as the enraged beak of the bonesnapper opened up menacingly before them.
I shall not.”

Planning A Northmen VS Hightowers Battle

It's set in the WoT5K (More like 3 Queens at this point as it's Daenerys/Sansa/Cersei) and the Targaryen-supporting Hightowers clash with the Northmen invading mainland Westeros.

I'm planning on basing it on Culloden.

Where would suit for battle to be joined? Would it have to take place in the Riverlands or could a Northern warhost go around them entirely somehow?

Are There Any Fics That Feature An Evil Lyanna Stark?

I'm interested in the idea that she wasn't at all the pure and innocent woman everyone make her out to be and I'm experimenting with the idea that the 'Prince That Was Promised' has a more sinister motive which she was very much invested in.

I don't just mean because she made off with a married man, I mean she was chiefly interested in power and more.

And it's only because she died that no-one knows what she was really like.

Here's An Interesting Scenario I Discovered

When Yuan Shang failed to break the Siege of Ye, Cao Cao drove him to Quzhang whereupon, Yuan Shang sent Chen Lin to negotiate terms for his surrender which were refused.

Can you imagine how much Cao Cao enjoyed seeing the man who'd written such an insulting letter about him appear now before him subservient and speaking of surrender when his letter predicted Yuan Shao would crush him utterly?
How do you imagine that talk went?

So If Cao Cao Had A Bunch Of His Ministers Executed For Standing Under The Wrong Flag...

How come none of their names are mentioned?

The records claim that after Geng Ji and Wei Huang failed to assassinate Cao Cao in Xuchang, Cao Cao gathered his ministers and ordered those who helped put down the rebellion to stand under one flag and those who didn't help under another flag.
Then since Cao Cao couldn't trust those who were fighting in the rebellion to those who had secretly supported it, he executed everyone under the 'Helped' flag.

But I've been up and down the Biographical Dictionary of Later Han and I can't find anyone who died in that time, in that city, in that way.
How come? If this was a full-on purge, this sounds like the sort of thing important people would have been caught up in.

More than a few important ministers were working in Xuchang at the time such as Liu Ye, Du Xi, Chen Jiao, etr, and they went on to have long careers after this.
So are we missing something?
