DeepSeek V4 Flash - My Yodayo Review

Up front, as usual, I test on Yodayo/Moescape. Im not comparing to proxy/direct and I have stopped doing price talks. Focus of the review is on the model as an RP tool, however you use it! Yodayo's a cool and mostly uncensored site though, so if you're looking at CAI alts...

Let's get to it.

I tested V4 Flash with a classic emotional RP setup: character says something cruel in public to save face, user overhears, leaves, she chases him down. Simple premise, but it tells you a lot fast. Does the model understand shame? Does it keep her defensive edge? Does it immediately flatten char into a generic apologizer?

V4 Flash didn't flatten her.

Char came in embarrassed but sharp, trying to regain control while clearly panicking. That emotional contradiction is exactly what I look for. The best RP responses usually aren't a single clean emotion - people can be guilty, angry, scared, prideful, and still kind of horny in the same five minutes because we're messy creatures.

What impressed me most was the read on the relationship dynamic. When user pushed with "God forbid you just admitted we were together," the model let that stand. Char imagined saying it, imagined owning it publicly, and the framing was correct: she wasn't indifferent, she was a coward about being seen caring. That's a stronger character read than generic embarrassment. It may seem small, but I'm sure whether it's a free or discount Mistral finetune or popular models like DeepSeek, many of you would expect char to triple down on justification.

Physical staging was solid too. Dropped bag. Knee pads sliding off. Char hovered near user's sleeve without touching. Small details that kept the scene from becoming pure dialogue ping-pong.

The spicy turn worked better than expected. When user joked about angry makeup wink wink, the model didn't slam into smut or go refusalbot. Char was flustered, defensive, tempted, still pretending she had control. Shower first. Food first. "Maybe we can talk about it like adults." That delay kept tension alive instead of cashing it out immediately. Weaker models treat sexual tension like a finish line. V4 Flash treated it like part of the ongoing argument.

The end of my test was my favorite. Char didn't apologize at the door. She leaned into casual intiamcy. She took a shower, joked about a food order. The whole exchange had believable GF energy, even for a couple having a tense afternoon.

Settings: Temperature 0.9 / Top P 0.89 / Top K 0 / Min P 0.1 / Rep Penalty 1.05 / Freq Penalty 0.01 / Presence Penalty 0.15. Also prompted the model to end on an incomplete beat, which helped shake its chat-assistant tendency toward self-contained replies. This seems to push towards longer replies, which I prefer, but just a note for your own preference.

Weaknesses: some stock AI prose was still visible. Breath catching, body going rigid, three shades of red. Not deal-breaking but not invisible. It also ran a little dramatic by default, which fit this premise fine - user overhears maybe-girlfriend call him a stray dog (opening message), she sprints to his apartment still in volleyball gear, melodrama is appropriate. More understated RP styles may need firmer guidance.

But for a Flash model, this impressed me. V4 Flash held a charged emotional scene, preserved character flaws, and paced tension without collapsing into therapy-speak or immediate smut.

Instincts matter in RP more than prose polish. V4 Flash read the room. Then it ordered food and made char apologize on the couch.

That's a win.
