Oil mix/excessive smoking

Hey all,

I have kind of a dumb question I guess you could say. I completely refurbished two different saws. Everything is new on both. I bought some Amsoil Saber synthetic blend which says 50:1 ratio. I mixed it 40:1 just for peace of mind because these saws are vintage and call for 40:1.

However, both saws are smoking pretty badly. My question is, when the oil says 50:1 does that mean I can only mix it 50:1 or else the fuel will have too much oil in it? Or is whether the saws smoke or not just based off of the AMOUNT of oil I put in the mix and not the ratio that the label says on the bottle?

Thanks

McCulloch 1967 10-10A Carb throttle shaft air leak?

I've got a 10 10A that I've almost completely refurbished and was running fine until I rebuilt the carb, because it was getting to be time. After the rebuild I'm getting an air leak somewhere for sure because when I turn the L in the RPMs rise like they should, but they just keep rising the further I turn it in, it doesn't fall off like it should. It's also damn near impossible to tune.

So I started searching kind of confused because I just did both crank bearings and seals, all gaskets and sealed up the cylinder casing with Motoseal. So I started looking around the base of the carb. Sprayed a VERY small amount of carb cleaner around the throttle shaft area, and it kills the engine every time. Nowhere else, just in that one area. At first I thought the intake of the carb was sucking in the fumes of the spray, but no, not the case.

Anyone ever have a throttle shaft air leak before? That has to be the culprit because everything is sealed up tight. I've been trying to figure out if this really is the issue for months now since I've never heard of this before.

Thanks

My big guy for wash-riding / crash-riding, whatever you wanna call it, is a Paiste Signature 20" Power Crash. When I was younger in my drumming career, around 2002 or so, Korn was my favorite band. When they released Untouchables I fell in love with David Silveria's 20" Signature Power crash that he washed on. Had to get one myself. But now I'm looking for something a bit different and can't make up my mind.

I like the sound of the 2002 20" crash, but I'm worried that the smallish bell won't allow it to cut well enough in a heavy mix.

Anyone else play really heavy music while using 2002s?
