Does anyone here have experience waiting for surgery at SickKids, or specifically waiting for inguinal hernia surgery?

Our baby’s hernia swells and turns purple every day, and he seems clearly uncomfortable and in pain when it happens. We were told by our local hospital that surgery should happen within a month.

We just had our surgical consult at SickKids and were told we’ll likely be waiting months because they’re so backlogged. In the meantime, we have to keep a close eye on it to make sure he doesn’t need emergency surgery. I know SickKids is an amazing hospital and I completely understand that there’s a wait list.

I’m just feeling really stressed and wondering if this is a typical wait time when symptoms are this bad. If you’ve been through something similar, how long did you end up waiting? Did anyone have success advocating for an earlier surgery date?
