Family doctor or Midwife?

Hi everyone! I’m a first-time mom and also very new to Ontario/Toronto, so I’m still trying to understand how pregnancy care works here.

I recently found out I’m pregnant (I’m about 8 weeks now), and I’ve already been accepted by a midwife clinic (Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives) starting later in my pregnancy with my first appointment with a midwife there in June. I also plan to birth my baby in Centenary hospital.

However, my mother-in-law is strongly encouraging me to find a family doctor because she thinks it’s important to have one throughout the pregnancy.

I’m a little confused because online and on Reddit, I see so many people recommending midwives instead, especially for low-risk pregnancies.

For those who’ve experienced pregnancy care in Ontario:

- Did you go with a family doctor, midwife, or OB?
- Why did you choose that option?
- As a first-time mom with basically no support system in the province yet (I’ve got my MIL and an aunt here though)  would a midwife be enough on its own?
-Has anyone used Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives? Am I in good hands?

Would really appreciate hearing people’s experiences and advice 😊

Would love everyone’s honest reactions 👀🍼

Hey mamas! Some of you filled out our survey a while back (thank you so much ❤️), and we’re back with something more tangible to share.

My sister and I are working on a concept for a home freeze-dryer designed specifically for breastmilk storage. Think of it like a dishwasher you’d run overnight turning your stored BM into powder form that can last 3+ years.

We have some early concept photos and would genuinely love your thoughts. Give us your feedback and any other questions that come to mind!

How do you think you would use it? I.e batch pump and process all at once or store daily supply in fridge for a few days before dry freezing?
How much would you want to process at a time?
How would you want the pouring into trays to work?
How would you want the powder to be removed and stored?
What else would make it easy and practical to use once in powder form?

First time going out with baby, are we overpacking or missing something?

Hey everyone,

We’re planning our first outing since the baby came, would be like a short half day picnic in the countryside. But since its lie the first time with baby so feels like a whole mission stepping out xD

We’ll be taking the car (SUV) and trying to keep things manageable, but I feel like every time I add one thing, I remember two more. So far this is what we’ve packed:

  • diapers + wipes (Pampers)
  • extra clothes (probably more than needed but just in case)
  • feeding stuff (bottles + Philips Avent kit)
  • burp cloths
  • blanket
  • some toys
  • basic first aid stuff
  • changing mat
  • changego stroller (I feel like it’s taking space in the trunk)

I keep going back and forth on whether this is overkill or still not enough. Like I haven’t even figured out if I need to pack extra feeding stuff for backup or if what we have is fine for a few hours. Also not sure how much we’ll actually end up using once we’re there vs just carrying things around just in case. For those who’ve done these first few outings, what did you actually end up using the most? And was there anything you wish you had brought but didn’t?

Would really appreciate any tips before we head out.

Midwife with hospital privilege at Mt.Sinai

I’m newly pregnant with my first and trying to decide between OB and midwife. I have heard great things about people using midwives.

Wondering if you know which midwife team has hospital privileges at Mt.Sinai?

Toronto Daycares - What are our actual chances to get into a centre?

My husband and I are moving to the West end of Toronto, in a few days, for a job opportunity. My son will be 1 year old in September - which is when we will need daycare. I have registered us on 30+ daycares (not home daycare, just centres) and I have called and emailed and plan to do follow-ups. My search / applications started in March / April FYI.

I feel optimistic but I also want a reality check... Does anyone know someone who was in a similar situation and still got into daycare? Anyone know what our chances are?

These waitlists seem vague and not managed in ORDER of who applied.
