"High risk" pregnancy: where did you deliver?

This might be a silly question (I'll probably end up getting a recommendation from my doctors), but I have a high-risk pregnancy for various reasons and I'm wondering where other women with similar pregnancies ultimately gave birth and what their experiences were. I live in the city, not in the surrounding area.

Had a positive screening result for T21, what are we expecting at the genetic counselling appointment?

I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm 48 years old, so I'm not expecting a false positive result. It's fine with us if the baby has Down syndrome. We're already incredibly excited about her, regardless of whether she has Down syndrome or not. We're sure her three older sisters, aged 11 to 15, will be thrilled to hold their own baby in their arms. :) The baby had a low risk for all the other genetic conditions that were tested for.

After receiving the results, we were referred to a genetic counseling center, which will see us at the beginning of September. We were told that the genetic counseling center will decide whether further tests are necessary. I assume we'll then be referred for a confirmatory test (I'll be around 18 weeks pregnant by then).

Is this standard procedure? I assume that would involve a diagnostic amniocentesis?

If there's anything else I need to know, please let me know! This is all new to me and I would ideally like to be as well prepared for the appointment as possible.

Received our NIPT results today

Hello, I’m currently 15 weeks pregnant and 48 years old. We had our NIPT test (Panorama/LifeLabs) done about a week ago and received the results today, which was a bit of a surprise since we were told to expect a two-week wait (but I’m not complaining).

We found out that we’re having a girl, which makes us very happy, since we already have three daughters together (my poor, dear, outnumbered partner), and I know they’ll be thrilled to have another sister; after all, they’d just been discussing how they could abandon a little brother in the woods and/or trade him for a sister if we were to have a boy. :)

We’ve also learned that our little girl has an increased risk of Down syndrome. We’ll be meeting with a genetic counselor to discuss the next steps (i.e., to find out if further testing is necessary). Either way, we love our new family member and are incredibly excited to meet her, and between her parents and her three very excited sisters, she certainly won’t lack for love—whether she has Down syndrome or not. :)

Pregnant at 48. Doctors at the hospital I went to did not seem concerned, what is my next move?

I am 48 years old, female, 172 cm tall, and weigh approximately 63 kg. I used to drink alcohol and smoke occasionally, but I have stopped. I don't take any medication. I am currently living in Canada with my partner.

This was certainly not my intention, and I never thought something like this could happen again. We are spending the summer at our vacation home by the lake, and my partner had to take me to the hospital in the middle of the night on Tuesday because I was in excruciating pain. I had no idea what was wrong, but the tests in the emergency room revealed that I am 13 weeks pregnant. The baby was developing appropriately for its gestational age, was moving, and had a strong heartbeat of 145 beats per minute.

I haven't been pregnant since 2010, so everything feels completely new, and I am very afraid that something might go wrong.

The local hospital (it's not a very big town, and the hospital isn't very big either) gave me the diagnosis and said, "Congratulations!" I didn't receive any further instructions, except to see my family doctor after we return at the end of August. (!)

Is this normal? Should I be worried or do anything specific? At the time, they couldn't find a cause for my pain, but it hasn't returned since, and the baby was in the correct position and seemed healthy. I'm just concerned because of my age. We're currently about three hours away from home.

Thank you for any help!
