I recently acquired a Gallinger loom and am going to replace the cords on it with Texsolv. I am completely confused on what I'm looking at in the picture. The cords come up from the treadles through these holes, then up to the shafts. Clearly this is not how it is meant to be tied up; though it operates (relatively) smoothly, I imagine tied up properly it would be like butter. How do those pulleys come in to play?
I have Osma Gallinger Tod's book, The Joy of Handweaving, but the loom featured is a different type. I've been through my other books and Googled and can't figure it out.
This is my first experience with a loom that isnt LeClerc, so its also my first loom without an owners manual. Is there one available anywhere?
No surprise here, barely even interesting.😆 What did surprise me is the 0% inbreeding coefficient, how common/uncommon is that? His supermutt is GSD and Boxer.
I'm primarily a knitter and crocheter but have dabbled in weaving. My first loom was a medium size antique LeClerc counterbalance. (Should have kept this one!!!) Sold that, bought a massive LeClerc jack loom which now sits disassembled because honeslty, it was too much too soon. Then I bought an ancient LeClerc table loom on a stand but that is away on permanent loan--purchased at auction and never really loved it. Bringing me to now...
There is a Gallinger (counterbalance) loom available that I have been saving funds to make an offer on but I have questions. It is 4 shaft but seems to only have 4 treadles and is a direct (permanent?) tie up. I can't get my head around it. Does that mean I have to press two treadles with every pass to make even the most basic weaves, or am I likely missing some details here?
EDIT: Just the 2 skeins of Mary Ann sock yarn remain! Make an offer! Willing to accept trades on these.

Full disclosure, I recently bought this yarn second hand; opened the package only to take pics. It smells vintage, but IMHO it would likely dissipate by being aired out and/or blocking.
