What is acceptable to do while on the sick from work?

I am currently on the sick after a lung operation. I work with machinery so I am lifting and walk up and down constantly all day. Even on light duties I am still walking up and down constantly, I get tired fast and I’m still sore. I am however so sick of being stuck inside the house, it’s been 5 weeks nearly now. So I booked the cinema today and I am going out for a meal afterwards. Is this bad, could I get in trouble for this? It’s not like I’m going to the gym lifting or something? I read online you shouldn’t do this. Knowing my luck I will see somebody who I work with lol. Saw somebody in the supermarket the other day, just my luck.

But I don’t get how this is bad? I’m not even taking the piss, I only just got my stitches out yesterday and I can’t even drive for another week. Just fed up of staring at the same 4 walls.

How to tell if Pleurodesis has failed?

Went in for my operation 4 weeks ago. Had around 5 X-rays all showing my lung was fully inflated. Had an air leak however when the portex chest drains were still in. I had them removed after 2 and a half weeks as they said the air leak had gone. Had an X Ray an hour after the drains came out, everything was fine and they discharged me.

2 days later I started getting shoulder pain the same as when I had the collapse. I did have the collapse for 10 months and this pain started 3 months after the collapse. So not the actual start of the collapse. I am breathing completely fine. The pain is right at the top of the shoulder almost towards the neck. It’s a very mild aching pain and it’s on and off, goes away when laying down.

I just don’t know if this needs checking? I’ve not bothered as they just keep sending me to A&E whenever I ring them up. Last time I was stuck in this horrible room squashed with ill people for 4 hours. When all I needed was an xray. I’m very paranoid.

Popping in chest and shoulder pain 3 weeks after Pleurodesis

I had a collapsed lung for 10 months. I previously had a Talc Pleurodesis that failed after 10 years. This time they’ve done the mechanical one, I had a trapped lung so also they freed it. Came back up on its own and it’s fully inflated they said.

Had my chest drain out last Wednesday. Since then I can feel what’s best described as a popping feeling in my chest. I only notice it when laying down flat on my back. The sound is like knocking your knuckles together. Shoulder pain is very mild, and hurts a bit more when taking a deep breath in. The shoulder pain goes away when I’m laying down. I did actually have the popping sound before the drains came out, but it wasn’t as often.

What’s concerning me is these are the symptoms I had while I was waiting for my surgery with my collapse. The hospital just takes an xray and says everything looks fine. So I can’t argue, I never had this feeling with my previous 2 Pleurodesis. I am paranoid and going crazy, is this normal? Or do I have a point that something is wrong?

I have no other pain, I’m breathing fine, but I had no pain and I was breathing fine when I had the collapse.

Shoulder/neck pain after Pleurodesis?

I had my operation 3 weeks ago now. I’ve had 3 in total, this was a redo on 33% of my left lung. It was collapsed for 10 months undiagnosed for a while since I was asymptomatic. Anyway it collapsed in September and in around January time I started with this shoulder pain. It’s in one small spot and feels like a deep ache. I had it for around a month and then it just went.

I had my chest drain out on Wednesday, everything has been going well, I felt really good breathing wise yesterday. I had quite a busy day I went to the supermarket for the first time (I didn’t lift anything) got back home and during having a wash the shoulder pain came back. Hurts more if I breath deeply. But if I lay on my back it goes away. I’ve woke up this morning and I’m completely fine.

I’m just worried as it’s the same pain as when it was collapsed, but my breathing is totally fine. All they will do is give me an X-Ray and it will come back fine. I say this as when it was 33% collapsed the X-Rays weren’t showing it was collapsed. This is why it took so long for them to even diagnose me. I needed a CT Scan which they won’t give me now.

Has anybody else had this? It doesn’t feel as though my lung is collapsed. But I find it strange it’s just started after 3 weeks and that it’s the same feeling I got back in January

Ever since my lung surgery I’m getting so many micro burps

I’m getting like 20 a day. I used to get like 3 a year! What is going on with this!? I posted on here 3 weeks ago about the first night of my surgery. I was in agony with hiccups for 5 years, it started because I couldn’t burp. Well I had 3 microburps one of which was nearly a full on burp, actually woke up to burp.

I keep asking my surgeon and doctors about it, if it’s linked. They just stare at me like I’m an idiot, everybody does. Most of my family and friends just laugh at me. I get given ant acids which do absolutely nothing for me. But how strange I’m getting so many microburps since my lung surgery.

Crackling in lung 2 weeks after VATS?

Firstly I’m not even sure what I’ve had done. My surgeon went on holiday and I’ve not heard from him since. I’ve had 2 Talc Pleurodesis in the past, which one of them failed after 10 years. So I am very paranoid about this operation I’ve just had. I don’t think I’ve had the talc this time. One of the surgeons told me they redid the 33% that collapsed. They removed my blebs and I also think the pleura. Then roughed it all up so it scarred onto my chest wall. I thought I was having the talc but I guess not.

Anyway I’ve still got the drains in as I have an air leak. Although I ended up in A&E and the surgeon then told me the air leak is gone. So I am confused, I’m going back on Wednesday for hopefully the drains out. But the last couple of days I can feel some very minor cracking feeling. Like walking on snow (I got told this was bad) but it’s very minor and only when laying in a certain position. Standing up or sitting down nothing.

I just don’t trust any of them. I had a collapse for 10 months and they didn’t even find out for 6 months. They kept giving me x rays, finally gave me a ct scan when it showed the collapse. So again all they’re doing is X-rays. They tell me my lung is fully inflated (I do think it is) that it’s also completely stuck to my chest. But how can this be if I do have an air leak and I’m feeling this crackling sensations?

My lung is still leaking air into my drain after 2 weeks?

Went to the hospital today to get my drain removed, I’ve got 2 pipes coming out of my side. They had me coughing and said I’ve still got an air leak, the bag slightly moved when I coughed. So I have to carry on with the drains in for another week. They said if they removed my drain now that the lung would collapse!?

Yet they’re telling me my surgery went well and that my lung is fully inflated and is stuck with the pleurodesis. So why have I got an air leak then? I am so confused. What happens if the air leak doesn’t go away? I did start feeling tiny air bubbles the other night as I didn’t even have any air leaks in the hospital drain. They didn’t really seem to be listening to me at the hospital. I’m worried the operation has failed, but they don’t even seem concerned at all?

I am really paranoid after my Pleurodesis?

Long story short I had 2 lung collapses 10 years ago, got talc Pleurodesis on both sides done. Went on holiday last year and my lung collapsed by 33%. Had to get an air ambulance home they told me on holiday my lung was back up. Had X-rays over here in England that showed my lung was fine. Wasn’t until 6 months later I had a ct scan and it showed my lung never came back up! 10 months later and I’ve finally just had the operation to redo the talc pleurodesis. I also had dissection and I think they might have removed the pleura but I’m not even sure. They did open surgery on me in the end.

I had it done 11 days ago. I’ve gone home with the drains in and I’m hopefully getting the drains out tomorrow. I’m getting hardly any fluid in the drains. Everything was fine until last Friday. Woke up in the night in agony, but as soon as I sit up (I am sleeping elevated anyway) the pain completely goes. Ever since then I keep waking up with really bad pain and as soon as I sit up like magic the pain goes. I went to A&E and saw a surgeon and he says everything is fine. That it’s all part of the process of healing.

But I am really paranoid as they’re just taking X-rays, with no ct scan. Also I keep getting bubbling in my chest on and off which only started yesterday, mostly by the drain site. Had a big bubble last night but passed wind soon after and it went away. I’m pretty sure everything is actually fine I’m just super paranoid. Anybody else had stuff like this? My last 2 Pleurodesis I never had this. The surgeon doesn’t seem concerned at all. I’m just paranoid that it was 10 months and something bad will happen.

Unbearable pain when sleeping after talc Pleurodesis?

For a week I’ve been completely fine. I’ve been sent home with the chest drain still in on bags. Hardly anything is coming out but one of the drains seems to have the fluid stuck (Not going into the bag) I’m laying on my back in an elevated position. I keep waking up in the night with unbearable pain on my back, as soon as I sit up however the pain completely disappears. But I just can’t sleep, is this normal? I will sleep for an hour and then wake up with the pain it’s getting more frequent. It’s only just started a week after surgery.

Should I have the surgery?

I am booked in for Friday to have an operation on my lung. I’ve had 2 VATS pleurodesis in the past. Last September my lung collapsed on holiday by roughly 33%. It didn’t come back up, until February they didn’t even realise it was still collapsed. X rays were not showing the collapse it only came up on CT scans.

They’re repeating the VATS surgery but are worried it might not reinflate, since it’s been down for 10 months. If it doesn’t they are going to change the operation to an open lung surgery. I won’t know what they’ve done until I’ve woken up.

The thing is I’ve got no pain and I’m not out of breath. I’m worried I will be worse after the surgery, I’m fine with the VATS. I do have a crunching feeling when laying down sometimes and on my left side when laying, it feels like air is escaping from my lung. The specialist says I could have left it, but I want to get back on with my life. I’m scared of doing anything, like lifting something heavy or going for a walk up a hill etc. I’m 32 and in good health.

I just want to know I’m making the right decision. Has anybody else had this? Will my lung reinflate with the VATS?
