So I was selling some old electronics stuff on reddit. Got approached by one guy who claimed to be from an economically weak family and asked for a giveaway of phone for studying purpose. To which I agreed and asked for his student id and other income certificates. So can anyone guide me on what to check before proceeding for the giveaway. How to verify his claims and other details as I am new to such things.

Bought a kindle 6th gen from u/Better-Map767 with some battery error on display.
Received the product and when I took it to the repair guy he told me that someone else has already tried to fix it.
Majority of the screws were missing.
Deep dived and came to know that the flex of Display was ripped apart, means it's non fixable now.
So I came to conclusion that first this guy himself tries to get devices fixed and when he fails in getting them fixed he posts the devices on reddit and foolish people like me falls into the trap.
I don't have any grudges against the seller. Just posting here so that other people who are thinking of buying a broken device and getting it fixed on their own should give a second thought.
I learnt a lesson and thought of sharing it here.
