Hi everyone!

As a DCS player, I've always felt that current mod managers were starting to show their age, both in terms of interface and performance. That's why I've spent the last few months developing Better Mods Manager (BMM), and I'd like to introduce it to you today.

Why a new manager? The idea was to create a tool that is extremely fast, secure, and pleasant to use every day.

Key Features:

  • Rust/Tauri Performance: The backend is coded in Rust, allowing for instant file management and negligible RAM consumption compared to Electron-based tools.
  • Easy Migration: You can import your OvGME and OMM profiles and libraries in seconds, so you don't have to start from scratch.
  • SHA-256 Integrity: BMM checks the cryptographic hash of every file to ensure no mod is corrupted or accidentally modified.
  • Conflict Management: BMM handles conflicts intelligently. The activation order defines priority: newer mods overwrite files from older ones in case of a collision, giving you full control over which file is used in-game.

Sharing and Connectivity:

I wanted sharing mods with friends or squadrons to be as simple as possible:

  • Mod Lists (.mm): Export and import your mod lists via .mm files (optimized JSON format) to share your configurations instantly.
  • Server Repos: Connect directly to a repository server (hosted by a friend or a team) to download and sync your mods automatically.
  • Deep Links: Support for bmm://import?url=... protocols to import a mod or a list directly from your browser with one click.

Also included:

  • Modern Interface: The application features a clean, fluid interface designed for ergonomics.
  • Integrated Assistant: I've implemented an interactive assistant (Tasky) that explains how each feature works directly within the app.
  • Standalone Server Suite: BMM allows you to generate standalone mod repositories. They run headless (no GUI), consuming much fewer resources than a full BMM instance, while providing a complete web admin dashboard for monitoring.

Open Source and Security:

The project is 100% Open Source. This was an essential condition for me: you can audit the code on GitHub. We also use a "Security Modal" system that lets you choose the access level you give the application.

BMM is completely free and universal (it works for MSFS, IL-2, or any game). It can even be used for generic file management, although it wasn't originally designed for that.

Version v0.9.9 will be released on May 1st at 19:00 (Zurich time)!

I'd love to hear your feedback, answer your questions, or hear your feature suggestions. I look forward to discussing it with you!
