how do i start?

hi! im currently in the middle of my biomedical engineering degree (bsc) and one class i had on biomaterials really got me hooked onto peptide gels and their applications which eventually branched off into proteins and how they function at a cellular level. i remember i used to play foldit when i was younger so I've been aware of the "lore" behind the importance of protein studies for a while now, but i have genuinely discovered a new found passion for cellular biophysics! i want to study it a bit more in my own time and really build my foundations, but im not sure of good resources just yet. i want to perhaps go for a graduate program in biophysics, as this fascination began about 2 years ago, and have been exploring institutes as well, but would love to hear from anyone about resources for self study or at the very least ones which help build a foundation :]

help out a tutor!? (not promoting)

hi all! im actually a second year biomedical engineering University student, who tutors part time :) I only did igcse for one year, and that was 5 years ago, after which i switched to MYP (IB curriculum). so im not tooooo familiar with the Cambridge assessment pattern, though I am comfortable teaching subjects like biology, chem, and physics generally. ive recently had a few high profile clients reach out to me for *edexcel igcse* sciences, including physics chem and bio, but they specifically asked for exam pattern style teaching. im confused how that works 😅😭 so i wanna ask you guys for help! please give me any advice you have. if you don't really have much advice to give, how about you just let me know how YOU enjoy being taught. I personally find no reason to make any science intimidating, which is what i find most teachers doing. good learning should be accessible and targetted to students, which is what im trying to do. so please, feel free to be as honest and blunt as you'd like.

P.S, im very familiar with the 9-1 sciences path(?), since i have about 3-4 students who take that! but this is the first time ive met a student struggling with the exam itself, and not the subject.

is it normal to unmask after diagnosis?

i was very recently diagnosed with adhd. today i was out with family to the mall to get some stuff. ive always hated malls because they're so noisy, but today my brother and dad happened to be talking all the way to the mall (which is pretty far away from us, ~40mins), while we were in the mall, and all the way back. i didn't have my earphones or headphones, and im extremely sensitive to sounds especially loud or repetitive ones. on our way back, I just completely lost it because i was so sick of hearinf them talk and i had an emotional breakdown in the car. they all were laughing at me :( and now i feel really stupid because its the first time its happened ever?? i swear i never broke down like this and rhe first thing i said when i did was "you wouldn't understand" and it was completely unintentional?? i swear this has never happened its the first time ever and im usually rather composed in extremely stressful situations but i feel like im becoming weak because of my diagnosis

why don't things work out for me when i especially put time and effort into them

idk but when i compare myself to people around me i have to put in twice as many hours and effort 😔 and i don't think im being delusional here because people very close to me genuinely pity me 😭 am i just stupid/dumb? very recently i spent 8+ months working for this research scheme but in the last two weeks of my semester my health went downhill because of my stupid hormones and i messed up my finals. i didn't end up getting the scheme and now im 18 looking for rent in a different country by myself??? and i recently got a tutoring job but ugh lets save that for another day.. yeah i feel like i don't have the right to complain but that rejection pierced through me like 5 swords at once

and this is just one occurrence out of many :/ don't wanna expose too much

new tutor here (chem) please help!!

so i recently got hired by a rather selective tutoring company to teach chem and bio. im currently 18 and my "students" are basically the same age as me, around 15-17yrs old. maybe this is because i absolutely love science, but whenever i teach them they always seem so disinterested and they don't come to class with the intention to learn :( im able to connect with them on the basis of our ages and common interests like video games and stuff but i find it very hard to tell them upfront that I'm not getting the energy back from them. not much active listening going on. also when i ask them to solve questions after thorough explanations of the concept they 1. don't read the question 2. read the question but don't answer it properly/in the manner i explained them to. i mean I'm only ~3 weeks into this and I'm a rather patient person, but today i kinda just had it and made a reddit account to just ask for advice 😭 please, senior chemistry tutors! help meee! ive also tried adjusting it to their learning style (like preparing notes, going through them slower/faster depending on how they learn things) but just doesn't work :(
