Fuck metas, play what's fun Helldivers. Railgun is fun as shit, Airburst launcher is fun as fuck, Arc thrower makes my balls feel funny (in a good way)
Last night, my buddy and I dropped into some D10s on Vernan Wells. Simple spread Democracy mission, nothing too major. We landed, and I got my equipment went on to do the mission. Mission goes very smoothly, and we make good progress. Take the first flag before the 5 minute mark.
We push through and make it to the second flag. All hell begins breaking loose. It started with a patrol, 2 Hulks, and a Warstrider with some chaff. I down the Hulks with my Railgun, my buddy takes out the warstrider with his EAT. We watch when, from behind a mound of dirt, the chaff calls in the bot drop. I call in a portable hellbomb as a just in case I need it.
The next 10 minutes devolved into the most desperate and blood frenzied fighting I have had in this game. At one point, I grabbed supplies and cycled through the entire 21 shots of my railgun in a minute. Berzerkers and Devestators fell left and right. We had two Factor Warstriders drop in, and I used my Hellbomb. At some point, we threw a 380 mm on the flag because it was safer to be in the heart of the storm.
While the 380s were coming down, I ran out of ammo on my abjudicator and grabbed someone's sweeper. It had only a few shots. I cycled through the remaining ammo on some chaff and charged at a pair of Hulks. At this point, I was fully invested and white knuckled on my mouse and keyboard. We were down to 4 reinforcements and had a whole other objective to take. I threw my last thermite on one Hulk and shot the flame arm off the other with my last railgun shot.
Shells coming down around me, I charged at the burning Hulk and the disabled partner. Thermite dropped the first, and I dove past the second one. I pulled the sweeper and began to bayonet the back of the Hulk. A shell ragdolled me back in front of the Hulk, and I had to dodge its buzzsaw. The Hulk was smoking and damaged now. The next few seconds were legitimately the most intense I've had in Helldivers. I faked right and forced the Hulk to swing before diving left, got up, and meleed the vents.
While this was going down all around me, it was absolute chaos. I called in supplies and started cycling the Railgun again. We captured the point and moved on, captured the last area, and extracted without incident.
TL:DR Spreading democracy turned into a melee fight in a desperate last stand while under direct bombardment. Best fun I've had in a minute 11/10.
