Is the Z1 Pro the more defective model? What to expect?

Hey guys,

I am awaiting my Z1 Pro soon-ish. A little later than originally expected due to „congestion“ at the Rotterdam port. (Very cool.)

In the last few weeks I read more and more posts about defective units and my excitement slowly grew into concern. I know there is way less chance that anyone posts „Got my Z1 Pro, works as expected.“ than people complaining about defective units. There are only two options for my machine: It‘s broken or it isn‘t but I‘d like to know what to expect and what the chances are.

This is going to be my first ever CNC machine and even though I know there is a steep learning curve for CNC, I hope that the machine itself will not become a project.

So, can happy Z1 (Pro) owners quickly raise their hand please to calm my mind?

To German buyers: How long from ship arrival to delivery?

Tach,

my Z1 Pro is finally on open water and destined to arrive in the end of September. How long did it take for my fellow Germans from there to delivery? And which delivery service? I wanted to do a short trip in that timeframe but I don't want to miss delivery or even risk that it gets sent back.

Thanks!

Do I need the essential milling bit set? (Z1)

Hey everyone,

i‘m about to pull the trigger on the Z1 Pro - as if I need another expensive hobby… Anyway, I made my peace with the fact that I will probably destroy a good amount of milling bits as an absolute beginner. 300 EUR on top of the machine for the essential set is quite costly though. Will I „need“ them?

I know the answer is going to be „it depends“ but just assume that I want to stick my head into a variety of projects and try out a lot. Would it be reasonable to spend the price for those bits on top?

Thanks for any advice!

***Update*** Beta selection done. The response was way bigger than I expected, so apologies that I can't take everyone - had to prioritize hardware diversity and specific experience profiles. To everyone who applied: huge thanks. Selected testers got DMs. Maelstrom launches later this year and I'll post here again at launch - would love your feedback then.

A few weeks ago I posted a screen recording of a 2D FLIP fluid solver I was building for After Effects. It got way more attention than I expected, so thanks for the encouragement.

The plugin - Maelstrom - has come a long way since then. I hired an experienced dev to help me and the feature set has grown significantly (collision, force fields, color maps, multiple emitter types, metaball rendering, trails).

Now I am looking for 6 beta testers - 3 Mac, 3 Windows. In exchange for honest feedback (bugs, performance reports, use case discoveries) you'll get a free license of the v1 release when it launches later this year.

Ideal mix: a couple of experienced AE pros, a few people on mid-range hardware (M1 base, older Intel Macs, mid-range Windows PCs) to validate performance, experience with other particle sims / fluid sims is a pro but is not a must.

Drop a comment with: your OS + hardware and your AE experience level. I'll slide in the DMs of the selected testers within a few days.

Wanted to share some progress on Weave (working title). It's a node-based procedural generation and audio-reactive modulation for AE.

Added a lot of nodes but bugfixing and performance improvements eat up a lot of time. Any feedback for nodes that I MUST include?
