Power measurement

Looking for an alternative to Shelly EM-50. I guess people in this subreddit should have some ideas.

I need to measure consumption on a 20A circuit, the measurement device should use split core CT’s.

Actually the EM-50 would be great but it’s also not accurate enough to my taste. Because of it measuring on a single CT per circuit it is way to sensible to false readings. Because of this I am getting on average 2% offset due to false production readings on a consumption only circuit. Shelly support says this is normal. Not here to shame Shelly about this but I would prefer more accurate readings.

Any advice?

EU based if that matters.

Issues updating FW on Pro EM-50

I have two EM-50’s in my basement, out of reach of wireless network. There is one ethernet feed to one of them, the second one is connected through wifi on the first one serving as access point.

The wired one updated perfectly, out of the box to 1.4.4, after that to 2.0.0.

The wireless one updated to 1.4.4, the process went a little slower probably related to the connection method, but it worked nevertheless. Updating to 2.0.0 however is not working. It looks like the process initiates, but after running through it all it looks like the update wasn’t performed. I rebooted the device as to make sure the view was not outdated but I always end up seeing the update to 2.0.0 still needs to be done. Redoing it leads to the same point again.

Any ideas?

Pro EM-50 on delta grid

I want to measure consumption on two breakers in a delta grid. I’ve read the specs before purchasing, I am aware it says single phase but someone told me this would work. Now I’m starting to have second thoughts.

Please advise if this will work and if it would make any difference on what phase to connect the CT’s and the EM-50. Would it make any difference if I would connect the feed for the EM-50 on phases 2 and 3 iso 1 and 3?

(Simplified schematics, I am aware of the need to integrate a circuit breaker for the EM50)

Pro2 PM max current protection

The specs of the device state that each relay is capable of switching 16A with a max total of 25A for the device.

The max current protection allows setting max 12A.

Is this a SW bug or am I missing something? Is the Pro2 PM actually capable of switching only 12A?

(The same issue appears on setting the max power protection)

Advice on shelter dimensions

We’re expecting our pup in two weeks at age 9 weeks. First dog in a long time (we have prior experience with large breeds), we’re currently preparing a few things.

One of those is a doghouse. Our dog will spend some time in the yard and we want to provide a dog house where it can find quiet time and some additional shelter from the elements. Additional because the doghouse will already be sheltered from direct sun and rain, so it’s mostly extra wind protection. Mild climate, we live in Belgium.

We’re wondering about dimensions. We know and have noticed that this breed likes to snuggle in compact spaces. Although I would rather provide too much space than too little, I’m worried we may choose something too big.

Can someone please advise from experience?

TY!

Meshed AP (child) "isolated" - how do I fix this?

I'm meshing a U7 outdoor (child) to a U7 Pro outdoor (parent). It worked flawless for months now. Last night the UCG Fiber updated to 10.4.57, it took the meshed connection over an hour to reconnect. Today I had a power failure and after recovery the meshed connection is down again. The U7 outdoor "child" showed offline for some time and now it is "isolated". How do I fix this?

-UPDATE- solved it.

After the suggested power cycle sequence and update rollback not having any effect, I googled and found UniFi Isolated Devices – Ubiquiti Help Center. I looked at step 1 and first decided to change the parent AP transmit power for the 5Ghz radio from "high" to "auto". After this the child AP immediately appeared as "getting ready" and shortly after as "up to date". The network connection is now working as before again.

While investigating (before the rollback) I also discovered that some clients connected to the parent outdoor AP despite being locked to a different AP indoor. There are definitely some weird things going on in network application 10.4.57. Can't dig any further because the logs are gone since the rollback.

I used to be a little sceptical on the "don't do auto updates"-thing but I'm definitely going to abide this filosofy from now on.

Kallax backplate

We use the Kallax as a divider under our open stairway (accessed from the opposing side as the perspective in the picture). We’ll have a puppy joining our family soon and I’m thinking of adding a backplate to the Kallax. The tile section is where the feeding area will be.

It will serve two purposes: keeping the Kallax contents out of reach of the puppy and shielding the wooden floor area from any spills that will occur on the tile section.

I’m considering making the backplate about 10cm higher than the Kallax top as to avoid stuff on top of it to slide over to the tile side.

Any advice on where the Kallax will be sturdy enough to allow screws to attach the backplate? The top will probably be mostly cardboard honeycomb inside but I’m guessing the side will be reinforced on the location where the wall brackets should go?

Yes, I could use the wall brackets to hold the backplate but it will be more work as I should remove the drawer and door inserts from the Kallax first (and I’ll have to locate where I’ve put them…). If some portions of the Kallax are strong enough to allow screws to hold the backplate from behind that would be easier.
