Come play 4-player GoldenEye outside Cor64's Montréal show!

Some of you may be aware of these two guys on youtube (Cor64) that play the N64 GoldenEye OST on synth and drums. I only found out about them last week and they sound great.

Well, it just so happens that they are playing the entire OST in Montréal on September 12. Weather permitting, I will set up a table outside with my CRT/N64 and run 4-player multi an hour or two before the show. A few friends will be joining in but I would love to get a bigger group going, maybe run some 2v2 or simply 4-player free for all.

Come and show me your skills before the show. No Oddjob!!!

Last night's I Promised The World show in Montréal felt like stepping into a mid-2000s core time machine...

Just wanted to express how great of an experience I had going to the I Promised The World show last night in Montréal.

As an "older" listener (I'm 33), I was honestly surprised at how young the crowd was and how into the music they were. I would say most were definitely under 25. Not only that, these kids were dressed in full scene: picture lanky guys wearing tight black skinny jeans with studded belts and flattened hair, scene girls with all sorts of colours and the quasi rawr-xD allure. It was a look I haven't properly seen in large numbers in at least 15 years. The aesthetics were honestly on point.

The last time I went to that venue (Newspeak) was in 2013. Before that, it was called Underworld, and when I was a kid myself, that's where a lot of the popular bands today played their first Montréal show. I can remember the many times I saw $10 The Ghost Inside shows happening at this venue nearly 20 years ago.

The music itself was also fantastic, and all the bands put on a solid show and sounded incredible live. Guilt, Rosasharin, heavenscoldhands, and naturally I Promised The World felt like they captured part of my childhood that I lost. The headliners sounded exactly like they do in the studio, including the cleans.

I was telling my friends at the show, "You know what? It's been 20 years. It's as if the reset button was pressed and they can play all the guilty-pleasure melodic hardcore/metalcore riffs again without any sense of cheese or shame."

I still stand by that honestly, but I don't want to take away from any sense of originality in it all. Because although the bands are a clear shout-out to the mid-2000s core scene in terms of style and riffs, no one can say they lack authenticity or dynamism.

I had an incredible time. If any of the bands are reading this, thank you so much for last night. I'm getting a bit emotional just thinking about it again.

As an experiment, I fenced off part of my front lawn to let the wild strawberries grow! In a few weeks, the little purple flowers should start making an appearance too.
