Budget drift build update

For anyone interested; here is a small update on the titan silver sedan that I bought as a drift project. Got the diff down, welded, and installed again. Took it for a drive today on a few wet roads, definitely works a charm but she needs coilovers desperately! Luckily I have a set which I will install asap. See ya!

First welded diff!

First welded diff, in an E46. Also first drift build! Excited to see where this is going!

2 years later

Suspiciously emotional caption incoming:

Photos 1 and 2 are 2 years and just about 31,000 miles apart. The others are somewhere in between. I know it’s ”just a 325i”, it’s ”only an E46”, it’s ”just a daily”. But man… this was the car that saw me fall in love with my ex, the one that carried me heartbroken, the machine that screamed when I couldn’t. The one that’s taken me to so many different places and people. The one that saw me buy and park my dream car next to it.

It’s the car that made me the driveway mechanic that I am, and the one that gave me the confidence to actually try. Everything from simple maintenance to replacing the clutch and body panels (RIP to the deer that ended his life on my passenger door). Building it to the way I’d like it to be, and I don’t mean to brag but this is by far the best feeling E46 I’ve driven and let me tell you, it was NOT that when I bought it the day of the second photo.

Not once did I think to myself, ”is this all worth it for a 20 year old BMW?”, because after all the time and money spent I’ve earned it back in knowledge and happiness. Went through so many different wheel setups and suspension heights and finally settled on a look and feel that I can’t get enough of.

Still have a laundry list of things to replace and upgrade but it’s definitely coming together. It will never be perfect, or even finished for that matter, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s rusty, worn down and still has a noticable clunk when shifting gears too hard. But nonetheless, it’s the best car I could ever hope to own, and I promise that when death decides to separate us I will do my absolute best to bring it back to life. Is it worth it for a car? Probably not. Is it worth it for me? Letting it go wouldn’t even cross my mind. If a car could be a friend, this would be my brother.

Oops, I did it again…

Got rid of my E39 Touring and ended up with an E46 sedan… Black Touring will continue to be the daily. Silver sedan will end up as a drift car (probably turbo build further down the line) Anyone interested in me sharing the journey?

Purple car checking in at the new garage!

Third pic is the same corner a few months ago! Nearly finished moving in to the new garage, can’t wait to drive the car again. Looks way too good in her new corner, almost giving me showroom vibes lol

Daily appreciation

Believe I just finished creating the cleanest non-M E46. Love how she sits now, just passed 300k km two days ago. Best daily I could ever ask for even though it’s a pain in the ass to keep alive sometimes. It all pays off in the end!

Giving my winter beater a suitable farewell. Engine and trans took no damage though so might replace what’s left of the tires and build a sleeper drift car. Sounds like a fun idea right?
