How to get that regis birmingham sound saturation/clipping?

How to get that regis birmingham sound saturation/clipping?

Here's an example (all yt uploads of rites by regis are of shitty quality, you can hear it better on streaming platforms):

https://youtu.be/Lny5hfrL5xY?si=zviBfEvYjftFfcT-

There's this specific glue to this track and other from birmingham sound era of regis. I'm not sure what it is. Did he just push the track really hard on the mixer when he was recording it? Is that soft clipping? It's subtle and really hard at the same time. I'm not sure how to get this sound. If it's master channel clipping, then it must have something to do with sound selection, I assume?

Stuck "guessing" my low end: How to optimize Yamaha HS5s in a terrible, tiny room?

I own two yamaha hs5s, and hd280 pro from sennheiser. and some budget behringer uphoria audio interface or whatever the model's name was.

The thing is my room is in a weird shape. I can provide an image of my room if that would be better, I think it doesnt matter since I cannot invest in panels - my room at the moment is just too small for a correct monitor placement.

Speaking of - my monitors have to be on my desk. They are like a meter apart, but around 80cm to my face. 20cm from the concrete wall behind them. I just cant move my setup to a better position. Maybe I can increase the distance from the wall but I'd still sit the same distance from the monitors.

Whenever I make my own music and mix/master it, I always have to GUESS. It's so frustrating. Some frequencies are juat not audible, some are boosted, it's a mess on monitors. I usually use hd280 pros, which also have some frequency response issues.

I tried using impulse response for the headphones, but I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly.

Is there anything that I can do to get slightly better audio coming from my daw? I wont get studio quality sound here but I'd at least want to hear low end coming from my monitors lol. I cant hear shit below 100hz sitting this close. I need to stand up and go to the opposite wall to hear the sub on my monitors.

Maybe I could get monitor stands and put the monitors behind me? I dont know

Workflow tips? For midi controller's knobs and faders

I want to try a different approach to creating than just clicking in everything and guessing the automation envelopes, clicking them in in ableton, maybe sometimes recording a knob with my mouse.

I have a novation launchkey 61. It has knobs and some pads, some faders too. I use knobs and other stuff occasionally, mostly midi keys obviously. I always find the process of assigning them really boring and tiresome, I can never get myself to do it in each project.

What is your approach? Do you have any tips? I was thinking of setting up a template for each device, synth and effect I use. Not sure if that even works in ableton though

How do you organize your collection? (multiple genres)

I've always been into techno so my collection up to now was pretty simple in terms of organizing it - I just made up some subgenres and placed music into the adequate folders.

Lately I've been more into blending different genres. My music ranges from hyperpop through industrial noise club tracks to trance. I feel like my subgenre system is no longer fit for this type of music. It worked better with techno, I was able to stay coherent more in my sets.

I was thinking of categorizing my music by mood and feelings that I get from listening to a track. I use the stars in rekordbox for energy levels of a track. What do you do with your collection if you have plenty of vastly different music genres in it?

Cleaning ears with ear spray by myself - yes or no?

I have tinnitus and some moderate hearing loss in right ear (high frequencies over 8khz). Left ear is fine. I use earbuds a lot, galaxy buds to be exact. I think my ears itch, right especially for some reason (I think my right ear canal is more narrow for some reason) because of using them and there is some wax buildup. Normal buildup I'd say.

I have some ear spray, it's exclusive to Poland so I'll translate the ingredients:

  • Medium-chain triglycerides ( MCTs)
  • Isopropyl palmitate
  • Hydrogenated polydecene

I got it from a pharmacist, who I'd explained my situation to. The pharmacist said they do not know much about tinnitus but would say this one is the best for me. The spray is oily as hell if that changes anything. My eardrum is fine, not perforated. ENT said some cells in my cochlea got fucked when diving and that's most likely why I have only high frequency hearing loss.

So, is it safe to do this? I know a doctor's answer would be the best, but I cannot go to a doc right now. I try to not use cotton swabs, but they do help with the itching. The problem is I'm afraid they push your wax inside and only part of it gets out on the swab.

How do y'all stay having fun when producing AND using social media?

I love techno, but my adhd makes me incapable of producing just techno. I make house, trance, hardstyle, try genre blending more and more. While I love all music really, electronic/edm especially, most of my inspiration comes from being online. Mainly instagram. I think it's not inherently bad but there's something I cannot get over and that is the automatic process of comparing myself to other people I know personally and are active in the industry or the people I don't know.

I have big dreams, I have the passion and obsession, I have the skills that I hone as much as I can. I just cannot keep enjoying making music if I compare myself to other djs and producers.

A lot of people are jumping on trends, like the "groove" techno sound that's been around forever but has been more popular in the past 2 years or so. I feel like a lot of the scene is just the same formula just like with hard techno. Dont get me wrong, there are good artists in techno, like ignez, deas, alarico, chlaer.

Yet, I find myself in this weird limbo where I want to be up to date with the music and trends, but social media keeps replacing my passion with obsession of growing my reach, networking, needing to be the one with the numbers etc.

I have my own inspirations, that I find from being online, because someone eventually posts something good. You just need to know where to look. Then again, I find I enjoy producing less and less, because the feeling of love when I create gets overshadowed by all the comparisons I make to the others.

Is the solution to just go offline for a while and then come back when the damage gets undone?

Is hör Berlin anti-palestine and zionist?

I remember there was backlash 2 years ago or so. They started deleting comments supporting palestine, everyone was like fuck you hör berlin, we're not supporting zionists! Some hör affiliated shows were even cancelled if I remember correctly. Now it seems like the industry forgot about it alltogether, or hör had changed and I am not aware. Or the backlash was overblown to begin with.

▲ 1 r/VyvanseADHD+1 crossposts

So I switched from ritalin to vyvanse. I'm currently on day 6 of elvanse. My skin is really dry, I have dry eyes, dry and cracked hands, cracked lips. My body is itchy af too. I've been trying to stay hydrated but it's not doing much. I don't know what to do because I wanted to go hiking tomorrow, it would be like 8 hours, 300m elevation so not much. My intuition is telling me that 20 degrees Celsius, and full sun will most likely make me even more itchy, I'll sweat and the hike will be a nightmare.

Am I correct here or am I overreacting? I've been chugging water and electrolytes, used up like 1/3 of hand cream bottle today just for my hands but my body is still dry as hell.
