Murder in Malibu

I can’t tell you how much I dislike this episode.

The terrible acting of Andrew Stevens (who plays Wayne Jennings). The convoluted murder plot. The utter ridiculousness of Brenda Vaccaro’s character Jess McCurdy, when she is swept off her feet within days of her sister’s death.

It all adds up to a mess.

Finally, the big ick factor, the way Columbo says “panties” as he and the other policeman paw over the underwear on the mannequin. :)

We have Columbo in DVD and I really noticed how poor this episode is because it is on the same disc as Columbo Goes to College. Which is a great episode.

Death Hits the Jackpot: Freddy Brower’s greed

The greed of Freddy’s uncle, Leon Lamarr, is obviously the main focus of this episode. This is what led to the murder. A truly obnoxious man.

But can we talk about Freddy for a moment? Do we agree he has some major character flaws? Despite the accolades from his eccentric friends.

Situation
He is in a messy divorce and suddenly wins 30 million dollars. In today’s money, this would be purchasing power of over 70 million.

This was a young man who was barely making ends meet. Even 1 million dollars would have changed his life dramatically.

He could have seen this windfall as the solution to his problems with his divorce. He had the resources to negotiate a settlement that would still leave him financially set for life. Worse case scenario, she would get half.

But because he didn’t want his wife to have anything, he ultimately set in motion the events that led to his death.

Course:Oblivion how did they duplicate technology?

The title is explanatory.

I understand that the silver blood duplicated the crew exactly. But in the final scene of “Demon”, we see no evidence that it duplicated Voyager with all its technology (including the doctor.)

Yet in Course: Oblivion, here it is, flying through space.

I love the premise of this episode on a philosophical level. But this does niggle in the back of my brain a bit. :)

I know that it initially duplicated the uniforms and communicators of Kim and Paris so maybe that was the planting of the seed.

Or was the Demon episode supposed to just be a “one off”.

Within the Star Trek World, the idea that it could duplicate human biology and form I can accept . The rest is a really big stretch for me.

Surprise! I am 67 and can navigate the interweb :)

The other day I was at the grocery store with my daughter (42). The cashier told me about an online survey that offered a prize. As she handed me the paper with the information, she pointed to my daughter who was with me and said, "She can help you with this."

I replied, "Thank you but I have been online since the last century."

The other day I was watching a "reading reddit" YouTube video. They said that you can't give a phone to grandma to take a photo because she would be clueless. Sigh!

Of course technology can be challenging for some seniors, but there are many like me who have adapted as they went along. The day will come I am when I will find the newest technology a challenge. But for now, although I might have grey hair, I am coping just fine.

Just sharing a little pet peeve of mine.
