what do sickness investigations look like at stage 2 and am i entitled to ssp?
hi, i’ll try and keep this as concise as possible, however i am sick and have a tendency to ramble anyway
i have been with my employer for 8 months now. i have passed probation back in april, and i am contracted 22.5 hours a week at minimum wage. i have had 43.75 hours off sick since january. not great i know. i started working in a nursery, which is exposure to a range of bugs which was my first bout, and then i had a mental health relapse which led to the majority of the rest. i am now medicated, and on the list for therapy, and have been open with my employer about that. the last time was due to a workplace injury.
i have been invited to a stage 1 informal meeting of sickness investigation. that’s fine, i know i was sick, and i will explain it. w/e
however, friday evening through to this weekend i have been hit with a nasty cold. i can’t even make a cup of tea without a couching fit. i’ve been yamming medication, ginger, garlic, honey and it’s not taking the edge off.
so here is my dilemma. if i call in sick, that immediately goes to stage 2, which i don’t know what that entails. i can’t afford to lose this job, given the state of the job market. on the other hand, i work in the kitchen. in this heat, it’s reaching 30 degrees as a minimum. also, im on my own all day, as the other chef is on holiday, and i get no help. im doing 2, 2 course meals, a snack for ages 4 and under, and washing dishes and deep cleaning whilst taking into consideration allergens. it’s a lot, even in full health.
my second dilemma, i get no ssp. all of my sick days are unpaid and deducted from my paycheque. so in my head , can’t they see that i don’t want to take time off work? i get just over £1k on a full working month. it’s not like i have a safety net. however, reading my contract, and per company policy, it says employees receive sick pay from day 1. i had a little google, it looks like i should be receiving ssp?
i’m very confused, and i have no idea what to do, so any advice would be helpful. thank you :)
