Cockroach in money bowl!

I just lit my money bowl candle to give it a refresh and to feed it some coins. After it was lit I noticed a cockroach in it eating a cinnamon stick 🤢

It's only been in use for 6 weeks, and the only food in there is dry rice, bay leaf and cinnamon sticks. I'll have to start over again. How to people who live in humid climates deal with bugs? I was going to pop a food offering on my alter tonight, but I might have to avoid food now. Or can I offer it in a glass jar?

How Do You Know It Was The Spell

If you have to do the mundane work to move a spell along, how do you know it was magic and not just you doing something mundane? This has bothered me for a bit since I’m just starting and I come from a different background spiritually.

Freezer spell accidentally hexed someone?

So i did a freezer spell on a colleague, i meant no harm, just wanted her to leave me alone and stop badmouthing and harrasing me and others (she is a known bully). The spell was meant for banishing, but it was sort of a combo of freeze and return to sender spell. I used name + pic +mirror and pepper, vinegar, and other spicy and acidic things i could find around the house to make her feel the sting and 'face' herself. Also, I was very focused and put a lot of intention while casting it and felt pretty intense..

Anyway, fast forward a few weeks and I find out that this colleague was all of a sudden diagnosed with cancer, and it's a pretty aggressive form, so needs to seek treatment immediately, and will not be around anymore.. I feel bad for her and hope she will recover. And tbh, when I heard this, i couldn't help but wonder if I didn't accidentally hex her..

Just curious to hear an opinion. Or if others also accidentally cursed someone

Familiar Friday. Please share pictures of your magical friends. Here is a favorite photo of MauMau actually looking at me. She hated the camera, so these pics are rare. Usually she saw the camera and ran off. Blessings to all of your magical family.

My familiar farewell ritual

Arthur’s ashes came home yesterday. We communed with him, bid him farewell, invited him to stay or return whenever he wants, and interred his ashes in their forever home.

My practice thus far has been more focused on incorporating small habits into my daily life (salt over the shoulder when seasoning, simmer pots, blowing cinnamon and sea salt over my threshold on the first of the month, etc). Gathering and performing a formal ritual like this was very new to me and I was surprised at how deeply emotional it was.

It's remarkable how powerful simply speaking out loud can be—when I was compiling the ritual and writing out the words and actions I was worried it was going to feel silly…far from it in practice. This morning I woke up with a deep sense of peace and closure, and Arthur was definitely with me in my dreams last night.

I developed this ritual through research and combining things that resonated with me from posts on this sub, books, and blogs folks have shared online. Happy to share those sources if people are curious.

===

Familiar farewell

Materials:

  • rose quartz for love & friendship
  • obsidian for scrying & protection
  • amethyst for healing & connection with spirits
  • pink candle for love & friendship
  • purple candle for contacting spirits (I used birthday candles and had several on hand so I could replenish them through the ritual)
  • rosemary for cleansing, memory, and fidelity
  • rose petals unending love (both rose/rosemary were dried)
  • hair from your head (you can retrieve this during the ceremony) for what you send with them
  • 2 coins (optional, I forgot them, I may add them later) to pay the ferry toll
  • favorite treats
    • churu
    • temptations
  • Photos, toys (you can gather them beforehand or just know where they are)
  • Fire proof bowl (we used his food bowl)
  • Scissors (for the hair)
  • Tissues (for the tears)
  • If interring:
    • your familiar’s ashes
    • your chosen urn

Preparation:

  • Figure out where you want to perform the ritual. It should ideally be somewhere they spent a lot of time/enjoyed. You’ll also be setting up an altar and burning a candle, so balance those two criteria
  • Compile a playlist that will play during the ritual (optional, but it did seem to channel the energy. happy to share mine if someone wants a starting point)
  • Wait til dusk or dark to start the ritual itself
  • Set up your altar: mine was the kitchen table where he had his afternoon naps. I laid out a blanket he really liked and gathered all of the materials we would be using for the ritual
  • Cleanse your space: de-clutter if necessary, burn incense, ring a bell three times, clap three times

Ritual

  • Set up your candles in the bowl (I was using birthday candles so I melted a bit of the bottom and stood them up in the bowl while the wax was wet). As you do this, think about your familiar and state the purpose of each candle
  • Add the rosemary, rose petals, and dry treats to the bowl, again stating the purpose of each component (churu was kept next to the bowl but still acknowledged)
  • Clip hair from your head with the scissors, add it to the bowl, stating its purpose
  • Light the candles and say: "You who have passed through heaven's gate, you who I/we mourn, receive this offering. I/we love and honor (pet’s name) and today you are with me/us once again.”
  • Start the playlist (I did mine on shuffle, the universe seemed to pick a good order)
  • Visit your familiar’s favorite places—in your current home, previous homes, places you visited that they liked. This can be physically going to the space or visiting it mentally. As you revisit these places, fill your mind with memories of your familiar. Imagine them as they were and the good times you shared together. If you do this ritual with someone else, talk about your familiar, narrate what you’re feeling and seeing in your mind. You may also feel moved to talk directly to the passed familiar. Allow emotions to rise and give yourself space to express them. As you are on this journey, collect items that remind you of them. This could be their trinkets or toys, favorite treats, their cherished objects, or items that hold their memory. Bring them with you to the altar. Let this process take as long as you need. This is the meat of the ritual.
  • If candles burn out or very low, take a moment to replenish them and continue
  • When you're ready, gather your photos, trinkets, and cherished objects you collected at the altar. Say “I/we love and honor (pet’s name), and today I/we build a monument to your memory.”
  • Arrange your photos, trinkets, and the cherished objects you collected on your altar. As you arrange your altar, talk about the meaning of those objects, memories that surface.
    • If you are not interring ashes, this is also a good time to activate the crystals: Hold each one in your hand, think about your familiar, pour your love and memory into them, and state the purpose of the crystal. Place them on the altar
    • If you keep a Book of Death and Discovery, this is a good time to record memories of your departed companion, including those that rose on your journey today
  • If you are interring ashes:
    • Address the ashes and say: “I/we commit (pet’s name) to rest with love. May you find peace.”
    • With love, move the ashes from their temporary vessel to their permanent home
    • Activate and place the crystals: For each one: Hold it in your hand, think about your familiar, pour your love and memory of them into it, state the purpose of the crystal, and place it in the urn
    • On my journey I felt moved to cut a bit of the shirt Arthur always laid on in my office, that went in the urn as well, with a word on its purpose
  • Once you are finished, observe your altar once more, experiencing all the memories and emotions that rise within you
    • In the moment it felt right to document it, so I took a couple of photos
  • When you are ready, finish the ceremony by saying: “Thank you for your companionship. You are dearly loved and dearly missed. You are always welcome, but not obligated to stay. Farewell friend, I/we love you.”
  • Either snuff the candle (do not blow it out) or allow it to burn down as you sit with the altar and your familiar
  • You can leave the altar up for a while or tear it down, whatever feels right
  • If you performed this ritual with someone, I encourage you to embrace and thank them for going on this journey with you
  • To dispose of the offering:
    • We fed the treats and churu to our surviving familiar
    • Scatter the remaining offering into a body of moving water (a flushed toilet for me…I live in the city, didn't have many options at the moment) or bury it in a secluded place
  • Foster some joy! We had a sweet treat and watched a happy show, mourning has it's place in grieving, but so does happiness

If you've gotten this far, thanks for reading! If you try this ritual, I'd be very eager to hear about your experience. Give your familiars a scritch for me <3

Terrible energy after receiving some money and career problems.

Two years ago my mother decided to give me and my brother some money. The money was a way to “buy us” so we would forgive her without any kind of conversation or apology.

That money was earned through shady businesses as well as defrauding people….

As you can imagine, after we got the money things are going terrible for both of us. It’s like we are paying for her sins. I have tried to do all kind of protection and cleaning spells and some of them work for like a week or so.

I found out about putting a Psalm 121 with open scissors underneath the bed and it have had an incredible effect to clear negative energy. I highly recommend it to everyone as it works right away.

However, career wise we are both completely stuck since we got the money. We were both at a good point on our career, so I’m not sure if it has something to do with the money.

I have gone no contact with her years ago, so her energy is not the problem. My brother and her have some sort of love and hate relationship that goes on and on. At this moment, they are not in good terms.

Do you have any advice? It is really possible that the money came with a hex due the reasons on how it was earned? I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Thanks in advance

Why do you practice magic? What is your reason?

You don't have to give every detail as to why or even tell at all. I just more so want to find my place in this community, find similar experiences or just discussion.

My reason for bringing this up is because of my own capability (yet failing) to practice magic.

I meditate or rather take a moment of mindfulness at the end of every day to affirm and understand what I'm doing and what I want. I would say this grounds me. Regarding this, I want to do more spellwork but find myself struggling to do so, either because I'm not actually grounded or because it's a different feeling like maybe anxiety/worry or guilt. And this feeling sits in my chest.

So I'm trying to figure out the source of my problem and decipher my own reason for wanting to practice.

I'm not so much asking for advice because I can find it in resources. Rather, I wish to know why magic is part of your life. How did you come to your practice, journey, and why you do it?

For me, I've always thought magic and just witchcraft was interesting and cool even as a child but I don't want it to be just that. For me personally, that kind of thinking isn't a good reason, or even does justice to the world that is witchcraft.

So if you don't mind sharing, I'd like to know your thoughts and your story. From the lineages to the new gens, be it from surface value or something deeper, I'd like to understand witchcraft better along with where I may stand with it.

Edit: Thank you all for your insights and stories. I'm glad to have read all your experiences and journeys, I'm even more pleased to see the variety. Although I may not know your stories entirely, it gives me comfort in knowing that even just the basic reasoning of, 'I want to', or 'because it's cool, inspiring' is fine.

Personally, the word 'control' could be to my advantage or disadvantage in my practice as a means of meant to be, or not (labels that may/may not describe me). And maybe that's shallow thinking because of the immense possibilities but I seek for depth in what I do, consume and bring forth.

For now, I will keep my practice, maybe enhance it, try different forms of meditating and add other rituals to my everyday life and keep exploring. I really appreciate your insights and connections to magic. I'm sure I'll find where I fit best and what I connect with most.

What happens if someone puts black magic in your food and you eat it?

Does it really remain in your stomach and can only be removed by spiritual methods ?
Does it really not follow the laws of nature and science, meaning it won’t leave your body on its own?
Does anyone have any idea?

What’s the best way to learn about Irish goddesses and gods?

Despite being born on and living on the island of Ireland for my first eighteen years, I know depressingly little about my own history and the native beliefs. A few years back, I decided to try and remedy this, but didn’t really get that far. Now, in developing my own practice and beliefs, I’d really like to take this further and get a solid understanding - particularly of the goddesses Brigid and the Morrigan.

Would anyone have any resources they could suggest for me to look at? Thank you 🥰

Were you ever surprised by the spell results?

Have you ever done some ritual/spell not expecting much result and were surprised? Or perhaps the other way, put in a lot of effort in and not much happened?

I myself am not a witch but I did a freezer spell on my very gossipy colleague after putting up with her nonsence for 5 years. I saw it on social media and really wasn't expecting much at all. Well... she fell down and hurt her arm or shoulder, was off work for a while and never bothered me again, I think I spoke to her twice in half a year. It would be a rather strong coincidence I'd say!!

Trying to figure out when to make my birthday wish

So my birthday is on Saturday but I happen to have a bunch of people coming over Friday night to go out to an event. I feel like they'll want to sing me happy birthday and have me blow out candles, but it's not my birthday yet! I'm not sure if blowing out your birthday wish on a candle only works if it's on your actual birthday or if the day before is ok too. I also can do the wish on Saturday with a second, smaller cake, but there won't be nearly as many friends around and it kind of feels more fitting to do the whole shabang with the biggest group? But also my question is: what if I were to do 2 birthday wishes? Is that allowed? This sounds silly but I know making your yearly wish is a real form of witchcraft and it definitely worked for me last year. Any thoughts are appreciated.

i’m justt a baby lol

i have never posted on here or honestly never even looked on here i just kind of feel like i have no one to talk to about this kind of thing.

i have always been interested in crystals my whole life. might be controversial in this sub i don’t know lol. i had a pregnancy loss in 2023 and have had no luck since. probably about six months ago i started a crystal grid on a vision board of us having a baby.

for some reason i decided to pick up tarot. i use a beginner learning deck still. i do a card of the day.

last week i went to a town south of boston. i have never had a reading. i had an 8 card oracle done and she clocked me. the whole left side of my spread was all throat & the whole right side was crown. she told me she saw a baby boy. she had no clue where i was from i didn’t sign anything these people didn’t know anything about me. she started talking to me about california, but really specifically the desert. i live in vegas but she said the only desert area she had ever been to on the west coast was in california. idk maybe just random lol. then she did a 2 card spread of problem & solution. (back story: last month i had to go on fmla from my job as a teacher because of stress, and my husband and i have been talking about opening a childcare for two years and i decided last week it’s happening in probably january). she pulled rest & self employment.

i also did an aura photo with a reiki. once again this lady knew absolutely nothing about me. i don’t know how much i really believe the aura photography thing though lol, my aura was red and i had on a neon red/ orange outfit. the right side was kind of orange and the left side was kind of yellow. i had a black line going through the left side and a white halo above my head which she said was an awakening. she said a woman spirit was with me. she didn’t know that i went to my grandmas celebration of life an hour after that. she also randomly started talking to me about arizona and the desert. again i’m from vegas but they both mentioned the desert???

that night we played uno. i feel like i almost blacked out or something. i remember my entire hand kept being 7 and 5 cards jumping then it became 4 and 1. i somehow knew it was 9 months wrote down in my phone notes. i don’t know if it was for me or who. i remember looking at my sister who is younger than me who is also struggling for a first time pregnancy and i got sad thinking she isn’t going to have a baby until she’s 28. i would love for it to be me getting pregnant in july and have a baby in august but realistically my husband has a medical condition where that is not gonna happen any time soon.

anyways yesterday i did my first tarot pull in probably a week since vacation. i have ALWAYS put all my card suit the same direction. i open the box and the only card that is faced suit up on very top was the magician.

i just cannot stop thinking about this

i guess i don’t know if i’m even in the right sub because it keeps saying this post doesn’t belong in this sub.

What are some popular witchcraft practices that you don’t personally do as a witch?

For me some things I don’t do are using incense, casting a circle, spell jars, turning to magick to fix everything, and doing spells for others. I’d love to hear some of yours.

Some critter keeps dropping off flower petals on my doormat

The last few days I've noticed an increasing number of dead/dried flower petals sprinkled at my front door. My first thought was just debris from the flowers in our landscaping, but they don't belong to any of the flowers in my or my neighbors yards. My next thought was maybe dropped supplies from the birds nest that's in the eaves of our front patio, but it's too far away, and it's *only* flower petals. On day 1, I picked them up because there were just a few. They reappeared on day 2, and more show up every few hours.

I'm curious if this is a thing I've never heard of. I've been practicing witchcraft for a few years, but I've got nothing on mysterious plant debris scattered in front of my house.

Is this protection or something truly necessary?

Hi, the truth is that I've only been learning for a short time and I've been reading a lot from different sources of information and comparing them, especially relying a lot on this community. Well, it so happens that a while ago, when I was still debating whether or not to start learning, I asked an acquaintance for a job. Everything went well; I trust him a lot and I was very pleased with how he did things. But two details caught my attention that I'm now thinking about: when he did the work, he allowed me to participate in certain parts, and before doing so, He said that both he and I should wear disposable gloves, because you should never touch witchcraft, according to him. This really surprised me because I'd heard it before, but I didn't think that the same person casting or intending it should also be wary of their own spell! Is this true? Or is it something that also depends on the person?

On the other hand, he also asked me for a handkerchief or scarf among the things he needed; he didn't end up using it, but he said it was a precaution in case the person linked to the spell was also a witch. He wasn't a sorcerer, but this acquaintance of mine was worried about something he sensed; anyway, the point is that he said it was that if he became a sorcerer, he wouldn't see the spell. And that surprised me too! I don't know how to understand what he wanted to do to prevent the other person from seeing what was happening, but can't that be resolved with some kind of protection? Perhaps what my acquaintance was doing was a form of protection? Is it important to consider additional factors if another person involved also knows about witchcraft?

Both things have been on my mind, and I don't really understand how what my acquaintance wanted to do works, or if it was really something extremely relevant. I would appreciate it if someone could give me their perspective on this, because I really want to understand more about how spells are cast or worked.

I also want to apologize if something is unclear or confusing; this isn't my first language, but I hope the translation is as clear as possible.
