Do later-added features help or ruin rock/metal songs?

Having a debate with my brother about this trend in rock/metal.

He thinks when a band releases a song, then months later drops a new version with a featured vocalist, it ruins the original and feels like a label-forced cash grab.

I think it usually helps. It brings more eyes to the song and can make a mid song blow up.

For metal/rock fans - does a feature added later help or hurt? Can you name a time where the feat version is actually BETTER than the original?
