Milky transmission fluid in Ford C6

Milky transmission fluid in Ford C6

I was driving and suddenly lost all gears. I pulled over and looked at the transmission dipstick to find out it was milky.

I had the truck towed home immediately.

I drained the pan and the torque converter. I serviced that transmission 2 months ago, replaced all fluid. I also had the radiator rebuilt that same time.

I suspect coolant has leaked from the internal transmission cooler in the rad. I pressure tested the cooling system and it holds pressure very well.

I couldn't find coolant contamination test strips in my town, so I have to way to test this fluid.

I live in a dry climate and I do not drive through water.

Does it look like coolant mixed in?

Is the radiator shop responsible to pay for my damaged transmission after the radiator they rebuilt failed and leaked antifreeze in the transmission lines?

Hi

I had a radiator shop rebuilding the radiator on my work truck 2 months ago. It was quite costly (1700$), but it was supposed to be a full rebuild of the radiator.

The rad is equipped with an internal transmission cooler, which was supposed to be inspected and pressure tested, replaced if needed.

Yesterday my transmission stopped working and I found out the fluid was contaminated with engine antifreeze. I'm also missing about 2-3 litres of antifreeze from my cooling system. The transmission will have to be rebuilt because of this.

The only way that antifreeze could get into the transmission is through the internal transmission cooler inside the radiator I just had rebuilt.

They said they offer 1 year warranty on parts and labour. I haven't talked to them yet, but I'm hoping they will cover the transmission repairs due to the radiator failure.

How bad is this surface?

I'm replacing an overdrive sprag on a 5R55E, I don't work on automatic transmissions very much. I noticed the thrust bearing surface on the planetary seems quite rough, and the needle bearings are also rough.

Should I replace the planetary or just replace the thrust bearing?
