Teacher looking for advice

Hello all,

I am a teacher looking for a mobile device I can use to make resources that I plan to sell on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Because school boards own whatever a teacher makes using any board resources - from tech to apps to internet - I cannot use my work laptop, even if I make the resources at home.

I already have a gaming desktop and a Samsung Galaxy S6 lite tablet from Teacher's college. The desktop is more than powerful enough but I get distracted while working on the resources and I'm tied to the room since it's a desk top. The tablet has 4GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 720G processor.

My tablet is not powerful enough to do what I need to do. I do a lot of research on Google and Canva (canva app sucks). I also love listening to music while I work. It's constantly lagging and the apps crash a lot. It worked completely fine otherwise - I.e. doing the same tasks perfectly as what it did during Teacher's College.

I need something with a USB port, and I would like to have a touch screen on the new mobile device as I find that helpful. I would rather not have a full laptop though, as they are $1300 to over $2000 in my area.

I'm looking at the 2 in 1 or Chromebook thingy.

Suggestions?

Elementary vs highschool

I'm certified to teach P/J/I/S, for secondary, it's intermediate math, and then both I/S for biology and geography and I'm currently taking the intermediate history aq.

My board posted a bunch of LTO/permanent jobs after the last round closed but 95% of them are for elementary.

Does that mean they are fully staffed for high school? Or do more of those jobs come out towards August/September?

EI and AQ courses

Hello Reddit I'm looking for some past experiences.

I've been in a year long LTO and I am desperately looking at summer for a much needed break and reset for my nervous system.

I do qualify for EI, and I just got an email from Trent for their summer AQ courses. I would like to take the History intermediate to add to my teachables, but I'm concerned it'll affect EI.

Logically I reached out to EI to ask if taking an online course would affect my EI eligibility, and got two different answers.

First was Yes. You don't receive EI while in school even for 1 course.

Second, No. It's an online course you do at your own pace so you could still work if offered employment, therefore you still get EI.

😑😶🫠

Wtf and why?

What has been your past experience? Has anyone come across this??

I'm trying to add history to my teachables, but I can only find intermediate history ABQs.

Is it possible to get a secondary history teachable after you graduate? If so. Who offers the course?? And (assuming not) would the secondary level qualify you to teach intermediate as well?

I graduate with the I/S division, have added primary and junior since leaving. My teachables are biology, geography and intermediate math.
