Why do we never see Othala redemption fanfics?

Okay, so we get a shit-load of purity redemption fanfics despite the fact that canonically she's actually the most racist piece of shit out of the entire Empire despite living in deulu land. people look at her delusions and go, "okay, but what if she was for real on that?"

And then we have Rune as the chaser, because canonically she was redeemed in Ward, and also she's still just a dumb teenager in Worm.

But there's one more girl that they're missing--Othala. It's **CANON** that she's literally a brainwashed CHILD BRIDE. She met Victor when she was like, 13 years old! Had her cousin not died and Victor got hitched to her cousin instead? She would've been trafficked off as a child bride to some random guy, somebody most likely older... and she was too brainwashed to see the problem with that, she was just too happy that she got to marry her crush Victor to really connect the dots. She is litterally a trafficked victim who doesn't even realize that she's a victim.

There's a whole ton of there that people can mine for stories, where they can do a Othala redeemption fanfic while at the same time blasting how terrible the Nazis are... and how hyprotical they are. They blast the ABB for sex trafficking while conveniently ignoring the fact that they do a form of it themselves.

So why aren't there any Othala fanfics where she starts to realize how fucked up this shit is, and maybe even get away from Victor, if they even get together in the first place?

If Smallville was made today instead of in 2001… (a humorous “what if” scenario)

So I sometimes will see people asking "what if there was a Smallville remake?" Which by the way I’m against for a few reasons. I mean, Smallville the way it was made in the early 2000’s  has a charm that can’t ever be replicated ever and I don’t think a remake would ever capture that, yeah?

That said… it does get me thinking… What if Smallville never existed in the 2001’s and instead were made today?

Here’s my humorous take on it, lovingly ribbing at all the 2020’s Arrow-verse style stuff that would most likely show up in Smallville. This post is made with love, it’s not meant to cruelly mock anything.

If Smallville was made today:

  1. Everyone, save for Martha and Jonathan, would have a seasonal boyfriend/girlfriend until they found the love of their life and got married (because it was canon to the comics or whatever).

And I do mean EVERYONE. Lana would no longer be the odd one out as having seasonal boyfriends, because everyone, even Chloe would be doing it too. Even Clark Kent gets in on it, dating girls from Lori Lemaris the telepathic mermaid to Lyla Lerrol, an actress.

It would be a running joke that Clark has a tendency to date mostly people with the initials LL, with the occasional exception there and here.

And in typical CW fashion, because CW-style shows are deeply allergic to relationships that last longer than a season, they’ll find some excuse for those characters to exit the show once the season is over, and almost never be seen again, unless it’s for cameos or whatever. And plus, it’s also a good way to drum up teenage drama that draws in teenage viewers… *shrugs*

  1. It’d be harder for Clark Kent to do all the heroics he does, because literally everyone has a phone with a built in camera and recorder. Unlike back then, when the 2000s’ show showed everyone still using a landline and only a few people having actual cellphones.

  2. Speaking of which… Clark would spend half the show deleting blurry photos of himself from social media. The other half would be him learning that deleting something online just makes ten reposts appear. Jonathan Kent would spend every episode saying things like: “Clark, maybe don’t save people at superspeed in front of six smartphones and a Ring camera.”

  3. Chloe’s Wall of Weird would no longer be a corkboard. It’d be a website with an attached Reddit-style forum with sponsorship deals, ad revenue, and users arguing whether a guy shooting bees from his mouth is “proof of aliens or government weather experiments.” On this site Chloe would host her own video and podcasts about all the weird stuff she’s documented.

  4. Pete Ross would be around more often on the show, but on the downside it’s a dice roll whenever he gets the Supergirl’s  jimmy olsen treatment where he’s played by a super hot black man who could be somebody’s love interest, or a non-sexual harmless nerd sidekick like Fox on the Batwoman show.

  5. Speaking of which, Clark Kent would get a Flash-style ‘Team’ of friends that helps him with heroics, because you know all Arrowverse-style heroes must have a team that backs him up in case he ever gets in trouble! And plus it helps people like Pete Ross and Chloe Sullivan stay relevant, because otherwise how can Writers know what to do with them?? Of course, the downside is that they’ll have Clark Kent inexplicably somehow unable to understand how his own powers work despite having them for a while, just so that Pete Ross can have his moment while he tells Clark Kent over the comms his brilliant idea on how to use a power. (Looking at you, Flash.)

  6. Lois Lane arrives earlier because modern television understands that viewers can only survive so many seasons of Clark staring at Lana from forty feet away while sad music plays. (.... actually, this one might be one of the upsides here lol).

  7. Speaking of Lana, Lana herself becomes weirdly beloved because modern audiences would realize she’s the only person reacting normally to the town’s nonsense. And because Lois arrived earlier before Lana could wear her welcome out, the shipping wars online are even more intense, and maybe even twice as toxic?

  8. There would be a lot of Marvel-style humor, quippier dialogue and so on and forth, with faster emotional delivery instead of slow-burn stoicism and teenage angst. Maybe some more overt awkwardness, as there’s this thing called “Cringe humor” that’s become a fad on TV and in movies...

  9. Speaking of which, Lex Luthor would be much, much younger and use modern slang and stuff to seem more approachable to the younger viewers, while Lionel Luthor would represent the more mature side of the Luthors.

  10. The Talon coffee shop *STILL* would have impossible economics. Teenagers buying one muffin somehow keeps a three-story historic building operational… nothing changed at all on that front.

  11. Somebody would be bisexual (Maybe Lex) or transgender/or Genderfuild (Tina Greener?) on the show, to showcase diversity. Not a bad thing at all depending on how it’s done…most of the time it’s awesome. But you know how the Arrowverse shows are like sometimes with that… decently done most of the time, but when they fumble, they fumble HARD. But they’d probably make people like Tina Greener a tragically misunderstood person who eventually turns good.   (I admit it, a part of me wants to see that now. I mean, I kinda liked Tina Greener on Smallville… I wasn’t the only one, right?)

  12. Lex would definitely up the Foe-yay with Clark, making the subtext way more oblivious, turning their frenemy status into something seemingly more complicated than it had a right to be. Lex and Clark’s friendship would spark entire fandom wars online.

  13. But the downside? No Tom Welling and No Micheal Rosenbaum, and no Kristen Kreuk! If this was made in 2026, they’d all be a bit old to play the roles… instead, we’d have a whole completely different cast. Making this a whole different show completely.
