So my big lady dubia Gertrude has been fat like this for what feels like months. She has aborted before so I took her out of the bin with the males. Its just her and one other female (Evelyn) in there. She looks hella preggo to me but again, she's looked like this for months. Is she just fat AF? Or is something stopping her from having the babies?
Found this really pretty bug. Kinda looks like a ladybug but darker. Is it? Or something else entirely? Second foto is of a different lady bug on the same plant.
I've been doing night time bug hunts at my home in Southern Ohio. I'm assuming this is the nymph of something else but I've never seen one before. Maybe only and inch and a half long.
So I regularly do this thing where I find spiders missing legs and feed them until they molt and grow it back. Well this 7 legged lady came with a surprise. The egg sack appeared yesterday. Will she be fine to release once she has the babies? Do I need to worry about them escaping into my house (not a huge concern) or will they immediately cling to her? She's also rather little. Might be her first babies.
