Carlin exhausts me.

Carlin exhausts me.

Edit to add: this baby is absolutely adorable, I’m just so tired of the performative gender presentation.

This is trivial considering all of the Rod drama, but I’m exhausted by Carlin and the tipping point for me today is her insistence on giving her youngest a “pony tail.” The kid doesn’t have much hair and that’s okay—she doesn’t need a pony tail!

Again, this is trivial and obviously not the most offensive thing she does, it just bothers me to no end.

We brought our baby home and now my cat’s a jerk to me

I (31F) and my husband (31M) had our first baby 5 months ago and it really sent our 14 year old orange into a tailspin. I may have been naively optimistic about how he would adjust because he was incredibly affectionate during my whole pregnancy, but I didn’t expect that his behavior would change so much and for so long.

The first issue we noticed was a hunger strike. He suddenly refused to eat the food he had been on the entire time we have had him. Would not touch it. We took him to the vet, who couldn’t find anything physically wrong and suggested trying different kibble and sent us home with wet food to try. 5 months in, he still refuses to eat any dry food and will only eat one kind of wet food. He also demands food any time we’re in the kitchen, even in the middle of the night when we feed our son.

He has also started ripping cardboard and going after houseplants, neither of which he did before. If we have an Amazon box, he shreds it and if he wants food (he’ll essentially scream at us for it) but doesn’t get it when he wants, he tries to eat our plants. I have moved all of the plants to places he can’t reach and we try not to leave boxes around, but the other day he got up on the table and shredded the mail.

He’s also started nipping me. He’ll essentially shove his head under my hand like he wants pets, but nip when I go to pet him. He’s never done this before—he had never so much as scratched intentionally before we brought our son home and it’s made me nervous to pet him, which makes me so sad because I still want to cuddle with him.

The most frustrating thing is that it seems deliberately targeted at me. He’s still affectionate and sweet with my husband and essentially ignores our son, but it sometimes feels like he’s specifically mad at me. He frequently scratches furniture or tries to get boxes when I’m feeding my son and can’t get up to stop him and makes direct eye contact with me when he does it. I miss the relationship I had with him before my son was born and I’m scared he hates me.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice?
