I hate the notion that finding periods gross makes you sexist.
Most people find basically anything that leaves the human body gross. Poop, piss, snot, spit, cum, phlegm, farts, etc.. If it comes out of a human people probably want it to stay out of sight. Those are all normal bodily functions but nobody accuses people of being anti-human misanthropists for finding them gross but somehow when it comes to periods having that exact same reaction makes you a woman-hating sexist?
It’s crazy seeing massively upvoted posts (probably rhetorically) asking why periods are considered gross and the replies almost unanimously agreeing that it’s because of sexism and patriarchy using arguments that everyone would recognize as absurd if it was about any other bodily excretion.
„You‘re not into poop-play? Uh, yikes, buddy. Don’t you know this is literally just something a healthy human body does regularly? Maybe you should grow up and examine your anti-human biases.“
„You think men shouldn’t talk about their smegma-covered penises in polite company? This is misandrist and clearly the result of millennia of matriarchy teaching men to be ashamed of their own bodies.“
„Why are you so hung up on not liking piss, it’s just something the body naturally produces. It’s even sterile so what are you so afraid of you weak man?“
Ridiculous, right?
Literally the only time the average person won’t be grossed out by some of these things is when it’s some kind of sex thing and even then most of these remain relatively niche fetishes. I genuinely don’t get what feminist cause these people think they are advancing by declaring people enemies for having the standard human reaction to bodily excretions.
Edit: To add some clarifications
- The first example is obviously about some people shaming men for not wanting to haves sex with a menstruating woman. This should be obvious but people in the comments keep downvoting my clarifications on this out of visibility when it doesn’t match what they decided I actually ment.
- This obviously isn’t ment as a excuse for some men apparently freaking out over seeing unused tampons or whatever. Though I still don’t think that would necessarily be sexist, just kind of whiny. If you want to argue with me try actually arguing with me rather than the most bad-faith strawman version you can come up with in your head.
I hate the insane amount of censorship on certain subreddits.
Just look at all these deleted comments. I’m not making this post to argue about politics. Obviously I have my own opinions about this but what I want to focus on here is the fact that literally the slightest disagreement on that subreddit gets deleted by the mods. It’s literally just a massive echo chamber.
I posted screenshots rather than a complete screen recording to redact usernames but that‘s how basically the entire comment section under controversial posts there looks like. Just people with the same opinion and a massive graveyard of deleted comments. Disagreement not welcome.
I think the sequence of
*User calling people brainwashed for disagreeing* -> *Critical comment deleted by Moderator* -> *Literal chinese bot*
in picture 2 is particularly emblematic of what is wrong with echo chambers like these.
