LIAR GAME : The Last Game Theory

SPOILER ALERT!!! For manga readers and anime watchers out there, this is my theory for Liar Game : The Last Game (The ongoing manga sequel for the original Liar Game manga, currently on chapter 5 as I write this post). Some of the things written here is a HUGE spoiler especially for people who haven't read the end of the manga.

BE WARNED!

Okay. so here's my theory for the last game

 1. that >!this whole game is indeed akiyama and yokoya's farce.!<>!“integral” is something “made” by akiyama/yokoya, there are several theories on what it actually is, some theories include: it’s another character we know playing the part (could be ex LG directors, participants, yokoya's servant, etc.), or a recording of yokoya (some people suggest it is an inverted color yokoya which is fun), or yokoya somehow had a hologram machine that can be controlled by pressing a few buttons/ maybe he has a mini keyboard somewhere, who knows? the list goes on and on. But the point is that integral is part of the plan and presented as the new villain of the story; the whole thing was made to replace the previous “liar game” footages which keep getting deleted by some shadow organization, and instead is being broadcasted LIVE (not a recording like the previous ones, so The shadow org can’t “judge” the video prematurely (they originally didn’t want LG to be broadcasted because they deemed it a threat , they don’t want people to be able to think deeply, critical, and learn the power of “trust”) ,with live broadcast they won’t know what is actually going to happen, what the participants will do, or if this video is going to work with or against them. Even when they realized that this is going to be against them, the video has already made it out there and it’s already too late!<
 2. . I'm assuming >!the one who knows the whole truth is only aki & yokoya, and the rest of the players are given “half-truths” or incomplete description of the plan in order to keep their reactions from being “fake”. I think other participants don’t know that “integral” is not actually from the shadow organization but part of yokoya and aki’s set up. Yokoya and aki are actually making a big gamble here, they “trust” that the participants will do everything according to aki and yoko’s plan. But well knowing those two, that “trust” is actually isn’t a blind trust but a careful educated conjecture based on their personality, game theory, etc!<
 3. All of this comes back to the original LG objective: >!to prove a point and share it for the world to know. And if the casts all succeeded to do that then they basically already won against the shadow organization. There’s no need to bait/lure them nor confronting them directly!<

Why I think those 3 points are plausible :

 1. The last game is set in an extremely controlled environment: >!place wise (yokoya’s place), game rule and settings (akiyama sets the rules for the snitching game) , and character wise(all the characters involved are the participants of the liar game, all share a moment together, akiyama and yokoya knows their personalities very well). Rings a bell? Yes, this mimics the controlled environment of OG “liar game” but this time they don’t have a definitive script…or at least the script exist only in aki and yoko ‘s brains haha. Some rules are very "limiting" and I believe that Akiyama didn't suggest them just because!< . For example, about the voting :

- >!No talking rules are especially made for the live broadcast, it prevent unnecessary talks which may divert people watching from seeing the actual point, and possibly may somehow tip off the real shadow org to move earlier than expected. Akiyama could freely tip nao (and fukunaga, and or everyone involved) about the game plan using a paper without being suspicious and without tipping the watchers that the whole thing was a farce (when he tip nao about the plan, it emphasize that he uses a "very small print", which I assume so that it cannot be seen from the hidden camera). It can also be that the "LIVE broadcast" is voice-only!<

- >!When nao was chosen as the general watchman, aki and yokoya knows without question that she will be chosen because no one fits the bill aside from her. Heck even we as readers don't question it. I believe that Aki-yoko purposely put her in that position. They must have a role that SHE alone can fulfill. I'm guessing that role entails the private conversation with Integral, with Nao, as the embodiment of trust itself, confidently told off integral and have faith in her teammates!<

- >!the hours between each round could also work to garner views and interest from as many people as possible watching/listening to this live broadcast!<

- >!i find it suspicious that our main actors that we know of collaborating in some way : akiyama, fukunaga, yokoya, and nao (as the watchman) are all in different groups!<

- >!the ending of chapter 5 which is when all participants wrote the exact same thing "There's no traitor". If they didn't suspect anyone, why don't they just cast a blank vote? Instead all of them deliberately write the same thing. I think that aki, yoko, fuku, and someone in group B must have done something in their respective group and convince them. Oh and I'm no expert but I'd like to believe the first left vote is akiyama's. ”裏切り者はいませーん” to me sounds like "There's no such thing as a traitor *bleh*" (while sticking out his tongue in a taunting way). But maybe it's just me haha!<

 1. >!About the shadow organization : They’re NOT omnipotent. Sure, they’re powerful and shady, but they have their limits and by history they never do anything unless the situation is very dire and they do it only as a last resort. For example, they killed the OG writer of the liar game novel ONLY AFTER the screening of the third and last novel. The writer has always been a threat since before, but only get killed after he/she’s become an emminent absolute threat and shadow org have no other choice. The shadow org also choose to threaten and bribe the movie director of the OG Liar game instead of just killing him off. The liar game with akiyama and nao is also NOT stopped mid game by this organization, they just tried to stop them from distributing the video footage of it.This speaks to me that the shadow organization has limitations, is NOT confrontational, prefers to instead resolving things from the shadows, and doesn’t make a move until absolutely necessary. Which for me, doesn’t make sense with integral being so involved in the snitching game , popping up here and there…(especially on yokoya’s place which akiyama specifically choose in the first chapter and i quote, “that’s why I chose a place this far away from the city for today’s meeting. If we’re this far out, their surveillance probably can’t reach us”) unless of course, integral is a farce by aki and yoko, the live broadcast theory also prevents the shadow organization to shuts the live broadcast early (since 1. They historically never make a move unless absolutely necessary, 2. there’s no script, they have no idea what this game is, its real goals or if this will be a threat to them unlike the deleted footage which they already know about from the LG novel, 3. There’s a possibility that shadow org is not monolith therefore they might be fooled to think that someone on their side already made a counterplan to ruin whatever this LG players are doing by sending “integral” - which is actually a trap set by aki-yoko). Considering the hypothetical LIVE broadcast, The existence of Integral also create the "necessary evil" for akiyama to actually suggest the snitching game and go through with it, steer the game by planting "ideas" into the participants (for example integral pops out now and then to say "there's a traitor" "there's more than 1 traitor" the private conversation with nao, etc.) while also informing the world of the existence of a "shadow organization" and the "trust" the world needs right now to combat them.!<

This is all hypothetical and I could be completely wrong, but tell me what you guys think!!

PS. sorry for the multiple edits, I just can't seem to get the spoiler tags to work properly TT

Fanart of Akiyama & Nao

I first read Liar Game when I was in middle school and I loved every bit of it! It was one of those comics that's really memorable and for my 12 yo self feels different and... "eye-opening" I guess? I remember thinking "The author must be a genius!!!" Anyway, Since the anime is out and all, I decided to make a fanart of Akiyama & Nao!!
