Episode Title- Dictatorship

Kikuzawa begins to recount his past, when he was once controlled by Yokoya. In high school, Yokoya transferred to Kikuzawa's school and exuded a strange aura, suddenly asking, "Who is the ruler of this school?" Yokoya, the son of the president of a financial group, was targeted and harassed by a gang of delinquents, but he trapped and threatened them, then won them over, completely taking control and quickly rising to the top of the school. Kikuzawa testifies that Yokoya, who had established a reign of terror and controlled the entire school at his behest, is now in control of the "Night Country" in this game, but Fukunaga and the others explode with anger at his betrayal. As the team splits apart, Nao tries to mediate—

Watching this trailer again is an experience-

https://youtu.be/EAUcBiCydRc?si=yrWhpH9SjieXXpkz

I have so much nostalgia for this trailer. Specifically. I once showed this trailer to a friend. Someone who only read the first few chapters and decided it wasn't for them, but one was aware of how much I liked it. When the title screen came up declaring: 'the legendary mind game series is making its long awaited TV Anime Debut!' their face broke into a grin of disbelief.

My mom had apparently completely forgotten that an anime was coming out, and thought I was showing her a trailer for Classroom of the Elite, only for: 'Liar Game,' to show up and for her to simply stare in stunned silence that broke into a surprised grin when the money showed up on screen.

There are so many elements of this trailer that remind me what it was like to see this for the first time. And it's stuff that I think a lot of people take for granted.

Even just seeing that they gave Nao brown hair and Akiyama blonde hair was something that warmed my heart. Seeing the characters actually look exactly like how I imagined them in the manga. Giving Nao a high-pitched voice to match her overly kind character, and hearing the voice of Akiyama as well.

Now, is the anime perfect? No. Of course, I and everyone else would love to see an incredibly High budget animated series that really goes to town on the effects and reveals. And there are a few minor changes from the manga that are kind of annoying (and other changes that I think actually work).

But in my opinion, This is easily everything I could have hoped it to be.

I think people forget that exactly one year ago, absolutely none of us thought that this would happen. There wasn't a single soul outside Japan that could have possibly predicted that by early 2026, we would have a faithful Anime adaptation that would >!play the Fukunaga reveal head on, go through and beyond the Contraband Game, have rats on Yokoya's shoulders, have the Teddy Bear scene, have a trans woman voice Fukunaga in the English Dub, have her bald for her first 3 arcs and then have her wig back for Revival Round 2, have the single best musical score possible for this series, play the End of Round 1 in such a way that I would literally be crying watching it.!< ...

And honestly, if I told my past self when this trailer came out that the anime would be released, and there would be a ton of people complaining that Nao is an idiot and that the show was apparently predictable despite them not having the ability to predict a single thing- I would probably burst out laughing.

Also, I just want to mention, I was literally vacationing in Japan when the announcement came out that this Anime was happening. I personally like to think that my passion for Liar Game was so incredibly strong, that might mere presence in Japan just Willed it into existence.

No longer is Liar Game just a niche manga with a couple of Live Action shows that are a nightmare to track down with English subtitles. It's an Anime- With a passionate production team, and a passionate voice cast for the Japanese and English dubs alike.

There are so many other manga out there with fans begging for an Anime. Usogui, Oyasumi Pun Pun, 20th Century Boys, The Climber, Billy Bat, Vagabond- Somehow Liar Game beat them All.

I dunno. I know I post a lot on this subreddit and I just kind of say the same thing every time, but I just don't want people to be ungrateful that this Anime exists. I truly believe it's one of the best possible adaptations we could have gotten. It could have been a hell of a lot worse. It could have had a soundtrack that sucked. It could have had an English dub voice cast that felt like they were half-a**ing the hell out of it and might as well have been AI. It could have only been 1 Cour and stopped at the End of Minority Game. It could have gone down a different path to the Manga entirely- even putting the J Drama and K Drama to shame in terms of its divergence.

The Anime team was hired to make a faithful adaption to the Manga and bring it to life, and that's what they've done, and I'm eternally grateful to every single person who's helped to make this Anime a reality.

We got Liar Game Anime before GTA 6. Remember That. :)

I know I'm stating the obvious, but online haters are so annoying-

When they're able to predict the strategy, they call the show too predictable.

Then when it does something out of their league, they say it's too complicated.

They literally flip-flop between these two ideologies. Either they predicted it, and that's bad, or they didn't predict it, and that's also bad.

Meanwhile, the fact that everyone seriously wants Nao to become a manipulative compulsive liar is honestly concerning to me. Like, I like Tomodachi Game too, but do you really want Nao to become someone who's threatening to cut people's fingers off, or straight up stab them in the neck? It feels like that's what people want.

I genuinely can't think of another franchise that has a fan base that is going through the same thing that the Liar Game fan base is having right now.

The adoption has come out, and for the most part, people are happy with it.

What We are disappointed in, are the reviews.

And it's worth noting again that I don't think that what the people online are saying is what the average person is. Thinking. People are very different individuals online than they are in real life, and most of the people who I talk to in real life about it seem to like it, or at the very least don't seem to hate it like the people online do.

I know it's kind of mean to say, but it comes across as if these people who are overly negative about it haven't really grown up yet.

Like their frustrations with Nao- I sort of understand, because I remember when I was a kid, I always found it incredibly frustrating when there was just a naive stupid character wandering around blissfully unaware of the danger they were in. I wanted characters to stop saving them, and let them suffer so that they can realize how cruel the world actually is.

I feel like the people who feel this way about Nao would literally have their heads explode if they watched 5 minutes of any episode of My Little Pony.

Kaitani artwork that're practically made for memes

Since someone posted some Liar Game artwork by Kaitani here today and people started making memes of it, I went into my stash and felt compelled to share these ones where the characters are holding blank signs. They're pretty much made to make memes out of, so go off people!

I made a playable version of the last game of the manga

For those who read the manga to the end, I've created a version of the last game in my website that I call Tensai Project. You can play it singleplayer or online (only works with 4 players). There are games from other manga as well, such as Kaiji and Usogui.

Would love to hear what you guys think, so try it out. If there's enough interest I'm open to adding more games too

Evil Mastermind Nao (just kidding lol)

I'll tell you what:

>!Nao the mastermind invented Liar Game. Rich heir of an unnamed CEO who own the MLM company. She was going to inherit the CEO position but Akiyama bankrupted her company.!<

>!Furious, she did a background check on Akiyama and his mommy, finding out about the mommy's honest personality. She starts to roleplay the honest persona and increases it tenfold. It only took her half an episode to smuggle Akiyama to her side. The Master of Acting has acquired the Master of Disguise (aka: the ex-con)!!<

>!By the way, the lawyer has no idea that Nao was the creator. That was another Nao's masterplan to evaluate her employee "the lawyer"'s performance. Unfortunately, the lawyer gets no promotion, so no fancy dealer mask for him!!<

>!With Akiyama by her side, she lures him to several game rounds. These game rounds have one simple hidden objective: "To break Akiyama mentally". Remember when Nao spam calls Akiyama? That was one of her tricks to blackmail and to lure Akiyama back to her games!!<

>!The effect is working. We hear Akiyama saying that he is Nao's "possession" straightforwardly.!<

>!All the contestants (Fukunaga, Yokoya, etc) you see, they are all Nao's employees! You see how violent is Fukunaga? Well, that's Nao's bodyguard. Poor Akiyama is trapped since the beginning of the first round!!<

>!Who is going to save Akiyama before he gets mentally exhausted by Nao's masterplan???!<

LIAR GAME : The Last Game Theory

SPOILER ALERT!!! For manga readers and anime watchers out there, this is my theory for Liar Game : The Last Game (The ongoing manga sequel for the original Liar Game manga, currently on chapter 5 as I write this post). Some of the things written here is a HUGE spoiler especially for people who haven't read the end of the manga.

BE WARNED!

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Okay. so here's my theory for the last game

 1. that >!this whole game is indeed akiyama and yokoya's farce.!<>!“integral” is something “made” by akiyama/yokoya, there are several theories on what it actually is, some theories include: it’s another character we know playing the part (could be ex LG directors, participants, yokoya's servant, etc.), or a recording of yokoya (some people suggest it is an inverted color yokoya which is fun), or yokoya somehow had a hologram machine that can be controlled by pressing a few buttons/ maybe he has a mini keyboard somewhere, who knows? the list goes on and on. But the point is that integral is part of the plan and presented as the new villain of the story; the whole thing was made to replace the previous “liar game” footages which keep getting deleted by some shadow organization, and instead is being broadcasted LIVE (not a recording like the previous ones, so The shadow org can’t “judge” the video prematurely (they originally didn’t want LG to be broadcasted because they deemed it a threat , they don’t want people to be able to think deeply, critical, and learn the power of “trust”) ,with live broadcast they won’t know what is actually going to happen, what the participants will do, or if this video is going to work with or against them. Even when they realized that this is going to be against them, the video has already made it out there and it’s already too late!<
 2. . I'm assuming >!the one who knows the whole truth is only aki & yokoya, and the rest of the players are given “half-truths” or incomplete description of the plan in order to keep their reactions from being “fake”. I think other participants don’t know that “integral” is not actually from the shadow organization but part of yokoya and aki’s set up. Yokoya and aki are actually making a big gamble here, they “trust” that the participants will do everything according to aki and yoko’s plan. But well knowing those two, that “trust” is actually isn’t a blind trust but a careful educated conjecture based on their personality, game theory, etc!<
 3. All of this comes back to the original LG objective: >!to prove a point and share it for the world to know. And if the casts all succeeded to do that then they basically already won against the shadow organization. There’s no need to bait/lure them nor confronting them directly!<

Why I think those 3 points are plausible :

 1. The last game is set in an extremely controlled environment: >!place wise (yokoya’s place), game rule and settings (akiyama sets the rules for the snitching game) , and character wise(all the characters involved are the participants of the liar game, all share a moment together, akiyama and yokoya knows their personalities very well). Rings a bell? Yes, this mimics the controlled environment of OG “liar game” but this time they don’t have a definitive script…or at least the script exist only in aki and yoko ‘s brains haha. Some rules are very "limiting" and I believe that Akiyama didn't suggest them just because!< . For example, about the voting :

- >!No talking rules are especially made for the live broadcast, it prevent unnecessary talks which may divert people watching from seeing the actual point, and possibly may somehow tip off the real shadow org to move earlier than expected. Akiyama could freely tip nao (and fukunaga, and or everyone involved) about the game plan using a paper without being suspicious and without tipping the watchers that the whole thing was a farce (when he tip nao about the plan, it emphasize that he uses a "very small print", which I assume so that it cannot be seen from the hidden camera). It can also be that the "LIVE broadcast" is voice-only!<

- >!When nao was chosen as the general watchman, aki and yokoya knows without question that she will be chosen because no one fits the bill aside from her. Heck even we as readers don't question it. I believe that Aki-yoko purposely put her in that position. They must have a role that SHE alone can fulfill. I'm guessing that role entails the private conversation with Integral, with Nao, as the embodiment of trust itself, confidently told off integral and have faith in her teammates!<

- >!the hours between each round could also work to garner views and interest from as many people as possible watching/listening to this live broadcast!<

- >!i find it suspicious that our main actors that we know of collaborating in some way : akiyama, fukunaga, yokoya, and nao (as the watchman) are all in different groups!<

- >!the ending of chapter 5 which is when all participants wrote the exact same thing "There's no traitor". If they didn't suspect anyone, why don't they just cast a blank vote? Instead all of them deliberately write the same thing. I think that aki, yoko, fuku, and someone in group B must have done something in their respective group and convince them. Oh and I'm no expert but I'd like to believe the first left vote is akiyama's. ”裏切り者はいませーん” to me sounds like "There's no such thing as a traitor *bleh*" (while sticking out his tongue in a taunting way). But maybe it's just me haha!<

 1. >!About the shadow organization : They’re NOT omnipotent. Sure, they’re powerful and shady, but they have their limits and by history they never do anything unless the situation is very dire and they do it only as a last resort. For example, they killed the OG writer of the liar game novel ONLY AFTER the screening of the third and last novel. The writer has always been a threat since before, but only get killed after he/she’s become an emminent absolute threat and shadow org have no other choice. The shadow org also choose to threaten and bribe the movie director of the OG Liar game instead of just killing him off. The liar game with akiyama and nao is also NOT stopped mid game by this organization, they just tried to stop them from distributing the video footage of it.This speaks to me that the shadow organization has limitations, is NOT confrontational, prefers to instead resolving things from the shadows, and doesn’t make a move until absolutely necessary. Which for me, doesn’t make sense with integral being so involved in the snitching game , popping up here and there…(especially on yokoya’s place which akiyama specifically choose in the first chapter and i quote, “that’s why I chose a place this far away from the city for today’s meeting. If we’re this far out, their surveillance probably can’t reach us”) unless of course, integral is a farce by aki and yoko, the live broadcast theory also prevents the shadow organization to shuts the live broadcast early (since 1. They historically never make a move unless absolutely necessary, 2. there’s no script, they have no idea what this game is, its real goals or if this will be a threat to them unlike the deleted footage which they already know about from the LG novel, 3. There’s a possibility that shadow org is not monolith therefore they might be fooled to think that someone on their side already made a counterplan to ruin whatever this LG players are doing by sending “integral” - which is actually a trap set by aki-yoko). Considering the hypothetical LIVE broadcast, The existence of Integral also create the "necessary evil" for akiyama to actually suggest the snitching game and go through with it, steer the game by planting "ideas" into the participants (for example integral pops out now and then to say "there's a traitor" "there's more than 1 traitor" the private conversation with nao, etc.) while also informing the world of the existence of a "shadow organization" and the "trust" the world needs right now to combat them.!<

This is all hypothetical and I could be completely wrong, but tell me what you guys think!!

PS. sorry for the multiple edits, I just can't seem to get the spoiler tags to work properly TT

Clairvoyant explanation doesn't make sense in episode 13

In episode 12, yokoya was already in the inspection room before they even decided on the amount and fukunaga decided on the amount herself, the blonde guy never said anything. The inspection room is 1 way glass and from the inside you can't see outside or hear outside they explained this in episode 11. The second time he guessed it right he was also in the inspection room before they decided on the amount. Is there something I missed?

Simpler alternatives, traps, or ruled out game paths?

Hi, could someone explain to me why, in the game of musical chairs, the players don't try to hire the Gaya—or each eliminated person individually—to track the other players's seats and even sit in them so they can't, or if they can't by rules then obstruct them some legal way or move their chairs?

Or why the members of the Gaya don't think of this and sell the location of the chairs, or at least each team's chair numbers, or Even better stealing and holding the chairs for ransom?

Theory: I believe Yokoya will get the humiliation of his life due to Akiyama's willingness to treat others as partners

I'm re-posting this as I made another typo in the title and removed the spoiler formatting after having used it before since it's a new rule of the subreddit. I also added more speculation that wasn't in there previously.

Episode 13 - Things taken out from the manga and why they bothered me

I've been, and still am, someone who has greatly enjoyed the anime from the very beginning, and who has few issues with the animation, pacing, etc that a lot of people have complained about. This episode however is probably my least favourite so far, because it's by far the one where the most notable things were skipped over from the manga.

First, a small but noticeable one. Nao making it very clear that she's afraid of Yokoya.

https://preview.redd.it/n7kkhoru8aah1.png?width=570&format=png&auto=webp&s=d539b4770f5441722006c860f83c9ec3d6586a11

To me this is important because it shows that Nao, despite being scared of the person in front of her, is still brave enough to clearly speak about her convictions without faltering. It's a great little moment for her that does a lot. The bravest thing a person can do is act even when they're afraid.

Second, Fukunaga's determination and frustration at not being able to figure out Kikuzawa's trick.

https://preview.redd.it/l16rrkzz5aah1.png?width=1094&format=png&auto=webp&s=4cf77937792266a9b4322e8f32615c6bf53ebc25

Fukunaga is already put to the side in the Contraband game, something I think is necessary to let readers get used to her presence after having been an antagonist for 2 games, but small moments like this still let us see her personality outside of being the violent one in the group. She's used to being in control and hates that she can't stop a greedy asshole (not entirely unlike what she herself was acting like in the Downsizing game) from doing as he pleases, which shows a first step towards her changing.

Thirdly, THE PAYOFF TO NAO GETTING THE INFO OUT OF YOKOYA!!

https://preview.redd.it/49qwldaw6aah1.png?width=1090&format=png&auto=webp&s=524bbe13b5ccb3de0c3c02192ad54de312b39a76

Why on EARTH would they take this out?! This is the first time in the entire story where Nao has taken an initiative in a game, and successfully gotten information out of the enemy that is the literal reason Akiyama figures out what's going on, and they JUST REMOVED IT! This pisses me off! The entire balance between Nao and Akiyama is this, right here, and they've erased Nao's part in it and just made it the Akiyama show, WHICH IS TOTALLY AGAINST THE POINT KAITANI WANTS TO MAKE!!

Lastly, and it's much smaller, but Akiyama hammering it in to Sato to follow the instructions.

https://preview.redd.it/2ir1xdpr7aah1.png?width=564&format=png&auto=webp&s=41177201bd7f08bae56d378f00b1ad9c3d7f416d

I don't know exactly why this bothered me, maybe I was just annoyed at this point, but the fact that it's such a simple "here's a piece of paper" and Sato just calmly taking it didn't sit right with me. This is when Akiyama starts getting aggressive, and him putting more pressure on an already scared Sato felt like it made the triumph of it working, and the reveal that followed hit harder for me.

I hate, hate, HATE to say it, but this episode left a really sour taste in my mouth.
>!I was already scared that they'd rush Contraband since we now know that they're planning on squeezing the second revival into this season as well, and this episode didn't do anything reassure me!<

I will be more cautious going into the next one for sure.

episode 13 should have included this panel:

for soeme reason, the production take a lots of cut for chapter 34-38. one of the best feat of akiyamas explanation was using this panel to illustrate to his team mate the anomaly... i dont know what are they thinking why they didnt include this.

SO ANNOYING.

Hi everyone!

My name’s Mikey, I’m the English Voice Actor for Miura Takayoshi.

>!Following the conclusion of Miura’s story,!< I wanted to drop in and share a heartfelt “Thank you!” to this community. I’ve been actively reading the subreddit since the day I was cast. Thank you so much for supporting Liar Game. The Manga, Drama and Anime. Thank you so much for supporting the Dub and cheering us on! Thank you so much for the kind words you shared about my very first named character in an anime. You have no idea how much your encouragement meant to me.

I’m so excited to see what comes next for the show as Nao continues to grow. I am so excited to watch both the Seiyu and my fellow cast-mates in the dub continue to breathe life into these characters.

Please know that everyone on the American side is working so hard to make the best show possible.

James’ scripts have been superb.

Jeremy’s direction and casting is thoughtful, heartfelt and always puts your enjoyment front and centre.

August and the other engineers work actual magic to transpose the performances to the characters.

Ben, Michael and the other assistant directors keep the spirit of the show running around the clock.

Anime or Manga

I hope this topic isn't rinsed but I was recommended to read liar's game a while ago. But now that its anime adaptation finished airing I wanted a second opinion on which one to start with. I don't mind reading manga but if the adaptation is very faithful ill be content with watching it. Thanks in advance !

Update: I am choosing to read it. I can't handle missing strategic points and certain details.
