Liar Game episode 20: Discussion/ Reaction
Hello and welcome to another Liar Game Monday!
Just this once I'll take over the duty of posting the discussion thread since my fellow mod L is busy. Please bear with me since I do not have his skill for this kind of post <3
This episode adapted chapters 58, 59, and 60 of the manga down to the letter, and what an episode it was!
Not only did we get the final conclusion of the very tense Contraband Game, but we also got the start of the second revival round. Nao, Akiyama, and Fukunaga team up against three other players in individual matches. First up will be Fukunaga, who will play a game of 24 Shot Russian Roulette!
I have been anticipating this specific episode ever since the anime was announced. We finally get some raw emotion from Akiyama, and you can tell the bond he and Nao share has grown much stronger since the start of Contraband. We also see that Nao has grown stronger, challenging Yokoya head on, and even bluffing to manipulate him to continue the Liar Game and make sure they will face off against him again.
The fact that this isn't even Nao's final form is so exciting! She's already come so far, and so has Akiyama for that matter. Nao touched on it in the episode, but he truly lost his ability to trust people with everything surrounding his mother's death, and the one person who can make him trust again seems to be Nao.
Last but not least, the queen Fukunaga is back in her best outfit yet, and we'll see her take the spot light next week!
We look forward to seeing you all here again for the next Liar Game Monday~
Who do you think will voice Solario?
The official twitter acc has posted photos of Solario's VA wearing his mask, and they're encouraging fans to guess who it is, which leads me to believe it's another bigger name like Fukuyama Jun!
Who else always holds their breath when Chihiro is on the bridge?
Doing my first rewatch in a good while now, and instinctively held my breath the moment they stepped on the bridge. I love this scene so much!
One of my favourite things about Sen to Chihiro specifically (but which is a part of a lot of the Ghibli films) is how things don't get (or need to be) explained. Why would taking a breath on the bridge specifically break the spell? The film never tells us, and I find that beautiful, because magic doesn't always need explanations~
NEW SUB EMOJI
The following official icons have been added as custom emoji to the sub!
I meant to do it sooner, life has just been hectic.
Also, reminding everyone that some of the post flairs are also customisable, just as an fyi~
Re-logged into Edge and my favourites were replaced with an old version
I can't find any guide on how to fix this so I'm praying someone here has the answer!
I've been using Edge for years and thought I was logged into my Microsoft account (my pfp has been in the corner the entire time) but as I got a new PC and logged in to sync my favourites it gave me an old (years old) version of my bookmarks, which I thought was strange.
I opened my old PC and when I clicked my profile it said to sign in again, which I did, and I thought that this would update my synced favourites to include the current list. It didn't, instead it overwrote the favourites I've been building and sorting into folders for the past 4 years with the old version, and now I can't find a way to get the new ones back!
I had so many favourites saved there that I don't know how to access anymore, I really hope someone can help!
Ranking All of Fukunaga's Outfits!
In honor of her birthday (August 6th) I'm ranking all of the outfits that have been worn by the queen as far as the anime currently goes! (Since the next outfit has been revealed in the OP I took the liberty of also ranking the manga equivalent, spoiler free!)
If an outfit was changed enough from the manga to the anime I'm ranking them separately since that's just more fun~!
From worst to best:
#8 - Minority (anime) nr 1: This is easily the least flattering outfit we've so far seen her in. The cut doesn't do anything for her body and the colour is way too close to her skin tone.
#7 - Minority nr 2: This is a step up, but we don't see the outfit enough in the manga for me to have much of an opinion on it, and in the anime they removed the crop top (show me her stomach you cowards!) and decided on making it blue, which is not a strong enough colour for her imo.
#6 - Minority (manga) nr 1: This is a simple dress that we barely see. No strong opinions either way. I like it well enough.
#5 - Downsizing: While I really like the accessories, it's just not my kind of outfit in general. Very covered, and the frilly collar is just... not for me. She slays though!
#4 - Minority nr 3: Now this is where she really starts to show off! Midriff, tights, tight skirt, bold colour and belt, this has it all!
#3 - Unnamed game (manga): A similar outfit to the last one, but with OPERA GLOVES!!
#2 - Contraband: This is just iconic! Tight purple pants, a crop top, and suspenders?! A perfect outfit to both casually slay in, and kick people's asses in!
#1 - Unnamed game (anime): I was absolutely floored when I saw the anime version of this outfit, I love everything about it! It has everything I mentioned that I loved about some of the previous outfits, but it has off-shoulder sleeves, and it's all PURPLE!! They really took the best parts of all her outfits and made a brand new outfit, absolutely genius character designer here!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUEEN!!
May we see many more outfits in the future~
Finally....
An official translation with high quality scans is something we used to only dream of!
I haven't read any of it yet, I just went straight to Pandemic to see the difference and it's borderline glorious!
Hopefully the digital release doesn't mean a physical release is off the table. For now I'm just so happy that new fans of the manga will have an option to read it in better quality than most of us did <3
(Just wanna say that I'm not shading the fan scanlation at all. I'm super grateful for all the people who worked to bring it to an English speaking audience back in the day. Without them we'd have no way to read it at all!)
VAMPIRE NAO JUST DROPPED
Everyone say "Thank you Kaitani~"
Brutal
Someone else finally got Fukunaga-level animation lol.
The violence scenes are always so brutal and difficult to watch, but I kinda love them~
THE ANIMATION IS SPEEDING UP!!
After last week I was happy but worried that they only put extra time and money into the first episode of the cour, but that was NOT the case!
The animation is even better this episode! There are so many more small details added, like Nao's hair moving when she walks, or eyes moving between things when they look at things, but ESPECIALLY Fukunaga! She's just doing a goofy reaction in this clip but they gave her so many frames to move! Same thing with >!her running up and kicking Eda!< it was so smooth and looked GREAT!!
While it's a shame that they didn't have this quality from the start I'm so happy we're getting it now! My favourite characters being this animated brings me joy like y'all wouldn't believe~
I live a bit away from Wembley Stadium and just wanted to say:
In my years of living in this area I've seen MANY concerts happen at the stadium. I don't live in Wembley Park, so I'm not that close, HOWEVER!
MCR last night is the only time that I've clearly heard the cheers of a concert audience to my house. You'd be surprised at how well sound isolated houses in the area are, and like I said, my house isn't even very close, but that show last night made me think there was something happening right in my area because I heard the noise SO clearly!
I may have heard the music with Dua Lipa, but you guys are the only ones loud enough to have made the cheering that clear, and I fukking love that!
Sounds like it was a blast, and I'm happy for everyone who went!
I was just suggested this sub
There are millions of real cats and BILLIONS of cat pictures in the world, and you people are ruing the environment and making the planet more unlivable TO HAVE A COMPUTER MAKE YOU FAKE CATS?!?!
Ban me and go, what is wrong with you people?!?
Who's the most Lawful Good character in LIAR GAME?
Characters that have so far appeared in the anime only!
Vote by commenting, not by upvoting!
Let's do this~
Can't believe no one has made a thirst post about this yet
Like, I know we have a bunch of Akiyama groupies in this sub, where are ya???
What would be your strategy as the inspector in the Contraband Game?
This is something I've been thinking about for years now and my head isn't able to really think of anything actually helpful.
The rules are that you have 10min to figure out how much/if your opponent is smuggling any money, and you're not allowed to touch the trunk, but how would you actually do that?
Strictly speaking about a general scenario, no Yokoya or other characters from the manga.
I'm a pretty talkative but generally very conflict averse person, so when faced with someone who I know is trying to hide things from me or who doesn't want me to pry my brain tends to blue screen and I'll either ramble about completely irrelevant things or go silent.
I guess my instinct would be to try and get to know my opponent and talk about casual topics to sooth my own nerves, and hopefully that would get them to relax enough that their body language gives something away??
What about all of you? Would you try to interrogate them? Intimidate them? Befriend them?
HAVE YOU SEEN HER?!
THAT'S MY WIFE!!
(Sorry, needed to get it out of my system lol)
Liar Game Anime Cour 2 OP - "All in" by Kroi
Kaitani artwork that're practically made for memes
Since someone posted some Liar Game artwork by Kaitani here today and people started making memes of it, I went into my stash and felt compelled to share these ones where the characters are holding blank signs. They're pretty much made to make memes out of, so go off people!
