Is this a safe space to crash out over webtoon’s new vertical dramas

I hate this so much. I hate that webtoon spent money and resources to make vertical dramas when they could have spent that money paying creators more than $800 per episode. It already felt a little ridiculous that they were trying to animate and voiceover episodes of popular webtoons (with what felt like the same 4 voice actors over and over again).

The audience for vertical dramas and webtoons is not 1:1, why would people who like to READ COMICS, a medium that gets half of its appeal from the ART, want to watch halfhearted videos of the same stories but significantly altered to fit the new medium?? Not to mention the way that the Korean stories have been westernized?? Korean stories are interesting to western audiences partially because they get a glimpse of another culture, why can’t those stories be left to the Korean entertainment industry to adapt?? Especially when there are plenty of webtoons by western artists that could be adapted instead.

I know that webtoons have been getting drama adaptations in Korea for a long time now, and some drama adaptations are even better than the originals (Business Proposal comes to mind)! But the reason they work is because they’re full scale productions and the source material is handled by Kdrama writers to appeal to Kdrama viewers (sometimes to the detriment of the story, I’m looking at YOU, Nevertheless)

I know anime adaptations of webtoons tend to be pretty low effort in comparison to adaptations of manga, but I’d much rather watch a lackluster anime adaptation than some poor US actors try to deliver near identical lines and performances to their webtoon counterparts. Suspension of disbelief works with comics and anime, it’s much more difficult to pull off with real humans.

I suppose the best thing to come out of this was that real humans were paid and employed in the making of these videos, which can’t even be said for most of the canvas creators who make content for free on the webtoon app.

Anyway, the whole thing is making me mad. Thanks for reading my rant.

Hi! It's my first time saying hello.

Hi! I'm ‘HWAN GOON,’ a South Korean webtoon artist currently preparing to launch. I was previously serializing as an amateur on a Korean platform but am taking a short break.

However, I want to connect with friends from North America and regions outside of Asia, so I'm preparing to start serializing on Webtoon Canvas sometime this week.

Before I begin, I’ve brought a short video of my work.

Please take a look and see if it makes you curious about my work.

Feel free to leave your comments!

I got removed cause sexual content, I need advice

So, my series is already set as a mature series 18+, and i really didn't draw anything too crazy, just people having sex, barely anything is seen.

If anyone has experience on what goes by on webtoon and what doesnt that would be helpful so this doesn't happen again. I sent the email they listed to get more details from webtoon.

What are your thoughts on Heroes Killing their Enemies?

I am still working on my webcomix, I can't tell much about it but what I can say is that my story has a lot of action in it, the Heroes fight their enemies by violence as in any action story, now, the thing that worries me is if it is fine to make my characters kill their enemies.

With what I can briefly explain with my characters and the my world building goes like this;

My characters dont like killing Innocents or civilians, even thugs but if killing is required to save the day, they will out of duty to protect others, never out of pleasure in killing

Yet, there are some Magic enemies which are irremedeable since they are magically and naturally evil, No talking or mercy will stop them from killing innocents and the Main Characters, it is beyond their nature ( think of it like Majin Buu from Dragon Ball or Ganon from The Legend of Zelda) Would you say that it is fine for my characters to kill these enemies in order to protect innocents, themselves and save the world or not? Would you say it is fine that a character can both spare or just beat up casual enemies but are willing to kill the magical ones?

On the other hand, there are stories where Heroes are constantly killing their Enemies

Lord of the rings, Naruto, Demon Slayer, Jojo's Bizarre Adventures.

So what are your thoughts?

How would you do it?

Looking for feedback on an idea

I'm not looking for feedback on the art. I'm not a professional, I've only been drawing since last fall. I know I need to work on my skills. I made these pics in procreate on my iPad. I did not use ai, any mistakes are because I use procreate tools to cut and move pieces to save time on drawing. I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on whether ir not this idea is appealing as a story, and if anyone would enjoy the characters.

They don't have names yet, I just kinda work on these when the urge catches me. But the guy in blue is a pigman creature, the furry guy is like a porcupine, and the little guy is a rock person. The story is about an arrogant explorer that broke reality years ago, and different dimensions are bleeding into each other, but not in an apocalyptic way, more funny and chaotic. The pigman and the porcupine guy were basically reluctabtly recruited by some shadow government to hunt the man down. That's all I have right now.

What makes a reader drop a webcomic?

Hey everyone, I'm curious as to what you all think the biggest factor for readers dropping webcomics is. Whether it be the art, the dialogue, or the story itself, please let me know your thoughts :D

For context, I run Toon Pilot Research , a business that deals with early reader retention, and insights for webcomics.

Looking for webcomic creators to join our new webcomics platform as founding creators!!

We’re building Comics Immersion, a webcomic platform where creators can share their stories and experiment with features like audio, music, and voice acting alongside their comics.

We’re looking for a small group of creators who’d like to get in early, share their work, and help us shape the platform as we grow.

If you’re a webcomic creator and you’re interested in:

  • Trying out a new platform for your comic
  • Reaching new readers
  • Experimenting with audio or voice features
  • Helping shape a platform from the ground up

We’d love to have you!

Audio is optional. You keep full ownership of your comic and can still publish it elsewhere.

If this sounds like something you’d be into, feel free to comment or DM us!

Roots of the heart

Webtoon character na kang lim (admittedly a pirated translation due to there being no official one)

Anything like these would be great, having trouble finding some more like them and decided to ask the people who have been around here longer than I have

does anyone relate? (question/rant)

as some of you guys might know, my comic is my everything rn, i spent 8 years working on it and I've been finally releasing episodes consistently since may. ill work my 8 hour shift job in the morning and after ill go home and work on my comic for the rest of the day

i used to post every Friday with each chapter hitting the max ( i think 100 images is the max)

but now its starting to hit me (burnout type)

so, i posted on my profile page that i was going to start posting every other Friday. but a small part of me thinks that people might get bored of waiting for each chapter and leave. i know I'm just overthinking but uuuugh! i hate it!

I'm so tempted to post the next part to my episode this Friday but i caaaant! not until the 28th

i probably sound like crazy for trying to post every Friday with also hitting the max of images lol

anyone else had this problem?

do ppl hit the max often? now that i think about it, I've only read webcomics with a few pages.

i don't drag anything in my comic unless its for character development. but other than that im quick with my story. (this is the problem, this is how they fix it, sprinkle in a cliff hanger and boom done! next episode) or idk, maybe i do drag it. i know episode 2 was hella dragged lol. i personally dont like episode 2 bc it felt long and boring but surprisingly its everyone's favorite lol

sorry for the rant and stuff. i like hearing from you guys and your experience. (enjoy my drawing of Reyes lol)

I am stuck on writing my first webtoon

Hi guys, I am struggling to start writing my webtoon, like I have my plot idea (kinda) but I really dont know how to start the whole process of making my webtoon writing wise (especially the scripts). Does anyone have any advice + what I should do and what I shouldnt do in the process of writing it (if yall get the gist of what Im trying to say). I also really wanna just write all the scripts and the entire story out first but that might be too much BUT ALSO it will help make sure I dont go into nonsense with the story, I DONT KNOW!!

Good art requirement?

Didn’t let me repost, copied from r/webtoons

Is Lookism / Fog Land level art needed to not only publish a Webtoon, but make sure it’s seen by more than 10 people? If they’re sayin Your Throne has bad art, what chance do beginners have? I’m not only talking about drawing alone, but originality and the comedic cherry on top. Is Webtoon now a tool to weed out fanatics who don’t have enough passion / time / resources / support? Asking for a friend who started their story…

Any advice on the process to becoming a webtoon artist?

How do I go about drawing in the webtoon art style? I've been wanting to create a webtoon for a while now, though not sure where I'd start. While not an absolute zero but I think I'd rather start from scratch since my methods have been all over the place. Though for reference I included something I have drawn. Even so I think it'd be best for me to start over. I've also been stuck inside the "floating head syndrome" for years. Though I think now that I'm prepared to work harder and take things more seriously. For art, I usually draw traditionally then scan and edit digitally.
