just a small rant about clips subscription plans
So I love Clip Studio, it was what I've been using since I dumped Adobe a couple of years back and I haven't looked back. The thing I've liked about Clip is that you can buy the perpetual license if you don't want to pay a subscription, which is great, because I detest subscription plans with all my heart and I do my best to avoid them whenever possible.
Well cut to a couple of weeks ago, I'm getting ready to go back to college, and I need a tablet to read my completely legitimate digital copies of my college textbooks on, and I've been wanting to upgrade my digital art setup as well. So I decide to splurge a little and get the new Wacom Movink 14 Pro. I love drawing on this thing, as someone who has been using many different drawing tablets for almost a decade now, this one by far feels the best! and the fact that you can plug it into your computer and have another monitor is great!
HOWEVER, a very sad and melancholic feel whacked me across the head as I tried to transfer my Clip Studio account to the tablet. Because the Movink is an Android tablet, it has to run the Android version of Clip. Which shouldn't be too much of a problem, but PC accounts don't sync up with it. And when I asked Clip for assistance and clarification, they said that the Android version can only use the subscription service, no perpetual licenses allowed.
I went through the five stages of grief right then and there. I checked the tos (denial) raged on reddit (anger), sulked while drawing on the tablet while being stuck in doodle mode (depression), tried to find a way to jailbreak the device so I can put windows 11 on it and transfer my data that way (bargaining), then I gave up and downloaded Krita (acceptance).
I really do hope that one day we'll see perpetual licenses show up in mobile versions of it, but I doubt it. But I will pray. I will pray.
