We have effectively been stripped of the choice to buy 100% pure petrol or even E10 petrol without the consent of citizens.

What's even more concerning is that, even if I'm willing to pay a premium for pure petrol, such as XP-100 or Premium Petrol, it simply isn't available at several fuel stations across Kolkata.

Despite petrol now containing up to 20% ethanol, consumers haven't seen any meaningful price relief. Instead, petrol prices in Kolkata have risen from around ₹106 per litre to nearly ₹114 per litre following the West Bengal election results. Meanwhile, the BJP has remained silent on reducing state taxes to ease the burden on citizens.

It is ironic that the same BJP used to criticise the TMC for not providing relief by reducing state taxes when it was not in power in West Bengal.

Today, Bharat Petroleum outlets sell only E20 petrol, including their premium-grade fuel. At many Indian Oil outlets, XP-100, the only available pure petrol option, isn't available at all, despite being priced at around ₹167 per litre in Kolkata.
