so so thirsty

hi,

been NJ fed for 6 months, recently diagnosed with delayed gastric emptying and SMAS. Anything I eat or drink comes back up, down to the exact ML of liquid (sometimes 10-20ml stays)

My issue is, IM SO THIRSTY, like I just feel perpetually thirsty like I could drink litres of water if my body would allow it.

does anyone know any way to get used to this or help this? I sip water to combat dry mouth and constantly have popsicles (which I do have to spit out)

I aspirated my NJ and I believe it’s 5.5?

although I did go to the hospital two days ago and they said it’s still in the correct place, the fluid that aspirated was clear/milky and has a PH of 5.5 so I’m really confused. Any advice is appreciated.

When aspirating there is still an insanely strong vacuum, so I know that should be indicative of it being in my jejunum.

pics of the PH strip and the bottle of strips if anyone’s interested.

Im a vomiter, not a day has gone by since February that I haven’t vomited at least a litre of liquid/stomach acid up.

Today has been one of my rougher days, my throat is in pain and I’m more aware of my NJ in the back of my throat, I can feel it pushing against my tongue a little bit, I’m just assuming this is due to the irritation in my throat and mouth causing minor tissue swelling rather than an actual dislodgement? I went to A&E (ER) yesterday and the placement was verified to still me in my jejunum.

Hi,

i was in a&e yesterday having the position of my NJ tube checked and it took around 6 hours (no complaints here!) and the doctor said it looked in place when they glanced at my X-ray, they said they wanted to keep me in to figure out why I’m still vomiting, I self discharged as all I needed was to verify the tube location, the vomiting stuff is being handled outpatient.

it wasnt until I got home I realised I never stated my tube was an NJ not an NG and this same doctor said they’ve never dealt with a tube in A&E before, so it’s made me wary that they didn’t know it was meant to be in my jejunum not stomach.

Since I self discharged there’s no discharge letter, but is there a department I could ask for the X-ray result just for peace of mind for both me and my now concerned nutrition nurse?

sorry to be a pain, thank you! :)

I have recently just spent 8 hours in the hospital getting an X-ray to verify my tube placement. The doctor who verified it also said they haven’t really got any experience with tubes (this was before the X-ray) additionally, I never stated that it was NJ.

im probably overthinking but im worried that they just assumed it was NG and saw it had migrated back to the stomach and that made them say yeah it’s fine.

can anyone also answer that if liquids via an NJ can be pushed quite quickly or should there be a bit of resistance when pushing? I don’t know if my anxiety is tricking my brain but I swear I remember resistance but I’m now able to quickly push 60mls within 10 seconds.

No aspirate and a strong vacuum when pulling back with a syringe though, which I had been using as my tester.

I have had my NJ for 9 weeks, I was discharged home with it Wednesday afternoon.

When turning my feed on, within an hour I was vomiting various amounts of yellowy fluid, normally when I vomit my stomach acid it's clear (brown if I've had tea), am I just being paranoid? As I did test it by putting 60ml of dark blue food colouring mixed with water down my tube and was unable to produce anything when trying to make myself sick and when I vomited naturally it was the same yellowy-green colour. Also aspirating my NJ just pulls a tiny bit of liquid and a strong vacuum. I did sleep fine through the night though and didn't wake up to vomit.

Tonight, the same persists although the vomit is now solid yellowish since starting my feed, I can’t tell honestly.

They were hesitant to send me home with my tube due to fears about it dislodging/flipping and me having to go back in. I really don't want to prove them right, so I can't tell if I'm just being paranoid.

i can’t tell if my vomit is my feed I’m on twocal which is a pale feed, I’ve included a pic of my vomit on this link if anyone could advise. It tastes milky and acidic.

Can anyone with experience please tell me what the feed vomit looks like/tastes like?

I vomit all the time but usually my vomit if I’ve not drank a coloured liquid is clear or clear with brown specks, but I’ve vomited bright green-yellow coloured bile since turning my feed on an hour ago.

i am on Abbott TwoCal if that helps.

ive ONLY just been discharged with the tube, I really hope I’ve not dislodged my tube

How do I increase my fluid intake? I keep vomiting almost all fluids up and even small sips are a struggle. Due to the vomiting it's kinda naturally just stopped my natural want to intake fluids and I forget to drink.

I'm NJ feeding so I get a litre of fluids from that + the fluid from flushes, my meds, etc. But I was just wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks, I'd be so grateful!

Mainly been trying to drink sweet decaf tea (no milk!) I am British after all.

I have only been given the 60ML Enfit syringes, but when in hospital I was using the 5ml,10ml,20ml syringes for my medications. The option to order other sizes isn't available either, the 5ml option is my main need at the moment as one of my oral suspensions is a 5ml measure per dose and I find it easier to use the smaller size.

(the other smaller sizes also work way better for unblocking the tube as my feed is quite viscous and prone to blocking, so they would be really handy also)

I'm in the UK, so I'm hopefully looking for some advice for my locale.

Thank you!

hello! I have been in the hospital for 9 weeks and had my NJ for 7.

I'm being discharged tomorrow (hopefully) with my NJ, and I'm wondering if there's any tips/tricks/hacks(?) to getting adjusted to it in the outside world? I know it seems stupid to ask, but I've only been in the outside world once with it and I felt/noticed so many people staring at me.

I can't help but feel the fact I have a bridle on it is adding to the staring also as it's huge! But also, I do accidentally sit on my tube/lean on it which would result in it being yanked out if it wasn't for the bridle, as I keep forgetting it's in me, haha.

So anything like recommended products to help prevent irritation, maintenance, etc, would be greatly appreciated! My hospital has given me ZERO info apart from training me on the pump.

once again, sorry if it's a weird or stupid question.
