DMF symptoms
I recently bought myself a 2022 Skoda Octavia with 180k kilometers, 2.0 TDI engine and 6-speed manual gearbox. I have been listening to possible dual-mass flywheel noises very carefully since I also bought a warranty which covers DMF failure (but not clutch).
There are absolutely no rattling noises after cold start and no vibrations when driving at low RPMs. When I test drove the car, my dad started the car cold, pressed and lifted the clutch pedal and I was listening the DMF right next to the left front wheel. However, now I have noticed 2 noises:
- Very slight knocking noise when keeping the clutch pressed. However, this might also be injection/compression related knocking since putting heated seats and rear defroster on changes the tone. The noise disappears when I slightly lift the clutch. My old Passat with 1.6 TDI engine also had the exact same knocking with SMF. I thought it was the throwout bearing going bad but I forgot the noise and drove another 80k kilometers without issues.
- Rattling noise when turning the engine off with clutch lifted. If I turn the engine off with clutch pressed, there is no rattling noise.
What do you think? Normal noises or slight wear on the DMF?
