transfer departments/store. feeling stuck in dotcom

I currently work in an extra and only do the dotcom picking, i’ve been doing it since hired about a year ago.

I asked my line manager very early if i could be trained on other departments aswell to pick up overtime on top of my usual dotcom hours so my contact wouldn’t be affected. since dotcom only runs from 6am-2pm really i feel like on some days where i can’t do those hours (such as uni) im missing out on overtime where i could be doing something on back shifts and working later in the day and to add variety to my shifts too as i find picking so boring, plus the dotcom managers are so strict making you hit unrealistic targets. Anyway, the manager just keeps saying everytime i asked ‘we’ll sort something soon when more overtime is available.’ after all this time of nothing being done, i directly asked some other department managers and they basically said the same thing, to me it sounds like excuses as i know there is overtime going around for people already in those departments and from my line manager since they’d obviously want to keep me in dotcom and from others that they can’t be bother putting in time to train someone. i’ve even requesting the training on my tesco to try prompt my manager but nothing ever moves forward. i’ve worked in previous retail stores so i have experience working stock and tills customer facing would just need to be showed how to use tesco tills.

due to this i’ve been thinking about would a transfer to an express shop be possible as i think it would suit me better. how would i go about this? do i wait until one is up on tesco careers and apply and would i have to tell my current manager or could i wait until ive been accepted through that way to say to them? like at the interview mention i currently work for tesco already? just would want to avoid telling my manager about anything until its been approved like.

or is there any other advice for learning other departments since saying to other managers your fully flex days and wanting to work a lot so can cover or work pretty much any overtime still isn’t appealing enough despite them all complaining about being understaffed.

overall just feels right now like i’m fully stuck doing the dotcom department all the time and would prefer some variety. id like to stay with tesco company than try find a new job as its not the easiest.

any advice or thoughts and experiences would be great.
