Remote Workers Community

A few days ago, I posted about how remote work can slowly make you socially inactive, especially in coast where there aren’t many coworking spaces or remote-work meetups. reference- Remote Workers Mombasa

Turns out a lot of us are working from home, loving the flexibility but also lowkey becoming houseplants 😭 I created a WhatsApp group for people working remotely in the Coast region.

The idea being.. a stress-free space for remote workers to connect, share experiences, recommend work-friendly spots and maybe plan casual meetups once in a while.. nothing too serious or forced. We can keep it specifically for remote workers / work-from-home people in Coast, since we seem to share similar struggles and routines.

If you'd like to be added, just DM me.

Any ladies working remotely in Mombasa? 👀

Hey ladies! A few days ago I made a post on a different subreddit about how remote work can slowly make you isolated without even realizing it 😭 and I was surprised by how many people related to it.
So many of us are just indoors most of the time working online, barely socializing outside screens and struggling to find genuine connections especially here in Mombasa where things are a bit quieter compared to Nairobi..
Because of that I ended up creating a small WhatsApp group for remote workers in Mombasa. Nothing serious or formal btw 😅 just a chill space to connect, talk, maybe share work spots, opportunities and occasionally meet up or cowork once in a month. Would honestly love to connect with more women in remote work too since it can get lonely sometimes working online all the time.

If anyone would be interested feel free to comment or DM me 🤍

Remote workers in Mombasa, how do you stay social and actually leave the house?

I saw a post today about someone who has been working remotely for 5 years and how it slowly affected their social life and health.. It hit a little too close to home.

I’ve been working remotely for almost 2yrs now and while I genuinely love the flexibility..I’ve noticed it has made me way too comfortable in my own cocoon. Some weeks I barely go anywhere. I can stay indoors for so long that going outside starts feeling like an “event” ata if its as simple as going to the supermarket lol. It has also made me less social coz most of my work and conversations nowadays happen online and before I know it.. days or even weeks have passed without properly interacting with people offline. I feel like in Nairobi, it’s a bit easier because there are more coworking spaces and events, meetups and networking things happening.. But Mombasa feels quieter in that sense

So I’m curious.. for those of you working remotely in Mombasa what do you do to avoid becoming isolated? Do you work from cafes sometimes? If yes, which places are good for working, decent WiFi, not too noisy and comfortable enough to sit for a few hours? Are there any remote worker meetups or networking groups, hobby groups, coworking spaces or social events that actually happen here?

And if nothing like that exists, would people be interested in creating something small? Maybe a casual monthly meetup for remote workers/freelancers/digital workers in Mombasa like a way to meet people, share experiences, maybe work together from somewhere once in a while..Would love to hear what others are doing to keep a healthy routine na staying social.
