First UC Review – My Experience

I'm in England.

Just wanted to post my experiences of my first UC Review as I know from frequenting the forums that they make the majority of us nervous! (And to be honest, reading through posts obsessively probably does little to help ease that as every situation is different and you tend to read worst-case/panicked posts – shoutout to the Mods who always try to give sound advice).

I've been on UC since May 2022 but always worked. Awarded LCWRA in March 2024 due to Cerebral Palsy and mobility but still work on contracts when I can get WFH roles or I freelance which gets reported to UC each month.

Timeline:
– I received the message about my first review on Tuesday, August 11th at 1.10pm.
– By 7pm same day, I uploaded everything (proof of tenancy, bank accounts for my four accounts, including savings + ISA and explained my small self employment went through my current account as opposed to a business one (for now). They wanted 4x months.
– Message in my journal 4 days later at 8.30am on Saturday, August 15th explaining my review call would be at 9.30am today, Wednesday, August 19th. (I got reminders by text and in my journal yesterday and confirmed I could take the call.)

The call:
The agent called at 9.30am on the dot and was lovely. Explained everything, said I could stop at any point to ask questions, then went through my housing and details in my current UC claim (and the health element which I said remained the same), I confirmed they were correct.

She then moved to the bank statements. She queried wage payments, small refunds that came in from places like Picturehouse, payments made to my credit cards (all transfers she could trace). Clarified my self employment (I had explained on my journal) and asked me to verify all my utility payments, including who I paid energy to (British Gas, quarterly - even I took ages to locate it on the statement).

She then asked if I'd any other income from crypto, housing or investments etc.

Then my self employment. She went through a recent declaration and my expenses. I had put 50% expenses only for things like phone and broadband rather than the full amount because I use both for business as well as personal use - she said this was the right thing to do and thanked me for doing it correctly as self employment aspects can often be so messy. I confirmed I would remain self employed going forwards, especially as it's my only income at the moment.

She then said all fine, that she'd need no other information and did I have any questions. I asked about the £6k every AP with wage deductions (for my own knowledge) which she explained but never even mentioned capital or current amounts in my bank accounts or asked why I bought things.

She told me the review was all great and that I'd receive two messages in my journal: one confirming what we spoke about and the next to say the review was complete with no changes to my UC.

At 10am on the dot I had the message in my journal saying the review was complete!

I was sick for the week with the nerves of it but it was so easy in the end (it probably helped that the agent was on the ball).

She said the same about my not being reviewed for 6 months minimum, but interestingly said they are trying to see if everyone can just be reviewed yearly as she felt the 6 month thing was crazy (likely due to how many they have to do).

The main thing I'd advise is submit everything right away: savings, ISA, current accounts and go through statements with a fine-tooth comb beforehand so you know what every transaction is (I knew she'd ask about the bigger ones but she looked at smaller refunds of say £15 too which surprised me). If you submit everything there's no back-and-forth before or after the call with anything extra needed and you'll be done within 30 minutes.

Mine was done in literally a week all in so I got lucky as I know some are waiting weeks or months.

Good luck everyone, the review calls really are fine!

First UC review - no business account statements for self employment.

I’m based in London. I’m in the process of gathering statements for my first ever UC review (been on it since April 2022) and I’m honestly stressed already.

I’m also on LCWRA but have always worked a bit where I can. This hasn’t been the case since May when a small contract finished as I’m recovering and looking for part time work now.

However, I registered as self employed with UC as I earn a small amount every month (just over £200) and I declare it etc as I should.

However, the action on the to-do list says I must upload “business account” statements for my self employment. I stupidly haven’t got a strict business account yet as the amount is so small - trying to open one proved such an ordeal I gave up earlier this year .

So is there anything else I can upload? The corresponding invoices perhaps? They’ll match what’s in my current account and been reported to UC as I add dates each month. I’ve asked on my journal but hoping I can gain some insight here.

Also I have a few accounts for organisation purposes so I move funds around a lot as needed - is this problematic?

They‘ve asked for 4x months so I plan to give them that from each of my accounts… (4, including the current account).

Lastly, does anyone know the wait from uploading statements to the review phone call?

Thank you from my very stressed self 😭

Sky messed up new flat address. Total nightmare. Still no internet.

Anyone else had this farce with Sky?

Been a Sky broadband customer for nearly 5 years. Occasional issues but they’ve always managed to solve them fairly quickly.

I’ve never seen the likes of this though.

On June 23rd I contacted the Home Move team to let them know I was moving. Not far, to a neighbouring flat in the same complex. Say my previous address was 39, new flat number 51. I told the person multiple times it’s a simple number change (same postcode etc).

I get the new router box and am told July 7th will be my new activation date and that it can be done remotely with no engineer visit needed. I did say that something always tends to go wrong when they activate a new line for me and asked for an actual visit but they said their system wouldn’t allow it.

July 7th arrives and I get a text to say all good with the line and service but no internet light is on - it won’t even flash red or amber or try to connect so I know something is up.

I go to my Sky Service checker and discover they have put my new address as number 15 (not 51 as I repeatedly stated) so a completely different line has been activated.

I call, annoyed. I’m passed through 9 different departments for two hours because no one can figure out how to change an address. Eventually I lodge a complaint and I’m told I need to wait another 24 hours before they can remove the mistaken address from my account, but a rep from the technical team assures me she’ll call back on Wednesday (yesterday) to do so and solve it.

To be fair, she does. Says new address is fully updated and proceeds to book an engineer visit. He arrives. Still no internet light will even flash but all set up looks good.

He calls in and the engineer team says the line address for their side is STILL DOWN AS 15. Engineer is really apologetic but says I’ve to call customer service again to get address changed.

I call and get another rep says yes, the previous agent didn’t update the engineer address but assures that she has and it’ll be escalated within a couple of hours.

I call back a few hours later to check and another agent says he can’t see any escalation and he proceeds to make a note.

I’m waiting on a call back from the agent who arranged the engineer visit yesterday at 12pm today but now the service checker has my address right it looks like and yet still says everything is working - green internet light is still off (tried a reset etc in case) but my main address on the account is STILL THE WRONG ONE. It still says 15, not 51!!

Agent calls back and says that no matter what they do to change the address, after 24 hours, it reverts back to the wrong address so the only option is to cancel the account and open a new one.

They then say they can’t cancel the account as the agent tried to initiate another change of address so I’ve to call back again later this afternoon to do this, however, they were able to open a brand new Sky account (new email, Sky ID etc) in the meantime to my correct 51 address.

I’ve to wait on another router and activation date but it proves my original account was tied to the wrong address or they’d never be able to open another fresh account to the same address?

On my now old sky ID it says all the broadband is working normally even though my box is switched off - even though it says flat 51 now…

So bizarre but I just checked my box again in case and no internet light even blinks

I’ve lodged another complaint but all this because someone didn’t put in a correct address!!

Anyone else had this and managed to get service? I also feel bad for flat 15 in case their service has been messed up 😭

A mess after a simple move - still no broadband

Does it just take a while to update?!

I’m exhausted and I’ve received no communication they are actually working on the line - the rep yesterday says it’ll likely take 72 hours but should I have got something from them to confirm??

I’ve lodged another complaint but all this because someone didn’t put in a correct address!!

I’ve decided to cancel it today if it’s not resolved as I’ve never heard of anything so ridiculous - I’m without internet for almost 10 days in total as the initial activation took so long!!

Anyone else had this and got a resolution? 😭
