Does broadband need to be Sky in order for Sky Q to run well?

I have Sky Q (plus 2 mini boxes) and it's all connected wirelessly through Sky broadband. I always thought your broadband had to be provided by Sky in order for Sky Q to work but is this true? If I get my broadband from another provider would all my Sky Q boxes work perfectly fine?

CityFibre Upgrade?

I am currently with Sky for fibre broadband, it was installed a while ago when Sky were using OpenReach.

I now want to move my Fibre (ONT) box to a different room, I also want to use this opportunity to switch to CityFibre which is now available in my area so I have better options in the future and can avoid having yet more boxes outside my house.

Talking to the the Sky call center - they will send out an engineer to move the box, but the call center person didn't know if this would also include the move to CityFibre. Does anyone here know?

If it doesn't I will likely just go with another ISP as I believe Sky don't do any bundle discounts on Internet + TV these days for Sky Q users?

Moving to another ISP would guarantee me CityFibre and also come with free installation, but Sky have quoted me £26 a month for 1GB which seems resonable to me, even if with an engineer fee.

How much do you pay for sky tv?

I’m just curious, as my contract is coming to an end

I have,
- sky signature
- ultimate tv pack
- boost to Netflix standard
- sky HD
- Multiscreen

And pay £50.99 for it.

Is it too much? Should I be haggling?

Am I being mugged off here???

I feel as if I’m paying too much! Especially for the broadband! I even phoned them up to see what they could do to bring the price down because I can get double the speed with another provider for around £15-£20 less than what I’m paying now but nope no offers!

Been with sky for around 7 years and that sky vip gold is absolutely rubbish!

They treat their existing customers like crap honestly!

Issue with Sky Max hub - WiFi keeps dropping out

Hello, first post here and it’s looking for help with a problem!

We ‘upgraded’ to full fibre earlier in the year, at first all was great but we started experiencing drop outs in WiFi, with it disconnecting from the Sky Q box and other devices that were even in the same room as the router. Sky customer services were not very helpful at first focussing more on it being an internet connection issue rather than the WiFi, even after explaining that I could see the WiFi connection indicator on my iPad dropping in and out several times during a call. Eventually they sent out a new hub, again all was great for about two months, but again it is dropping out frequently and unpredictably.

So far we have tried:
Powering the hub down then on again
Switching the WPA security to WPA 2
Forgetting the network then reading to devices

Frustratingly, due to the fault being unpredictable and intermittent, it is hard to tell whether these changes have made any real difference as any extended period without disconnection lulls you into a false sense of security.

I also wonder if this issue is why my Ring doorbell is now offline for extended periods as it was much more reliable with the old setup?

This situation is particularly inconvenient for me as I primarily work from home as a nurse educator, which involves lots of Teams meetings and delivering online teaching. I have been lucky so far but it is only a matter of time before the signal drops out mid lesson.

Looking online this seems to be a common issue, has anyone found a solution aside from a mesh network? We are close to telling sky to cancel due to the poor quality of the service and moving to another ISP.

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

Sky VIP after cancelling

Retentions/win back offered a rubbish deal. The person said wait till after the 30 day cancellation period to get better offers. He/she then said sky VIP does not get cancelled for 48 hours after cancellation.

Has anyone had experience of cancelling and rejoining keeping their sky VIP as it was?

Many thanks

Virgin renewal: £87 for 1GB + TV vs £26 BB + Sky Ultimate

My Virgin contract expires on September 24th and, after the usual retentions dance, I’ve been offered:

  • £87/month for 24 months — 1GB Max broadband, 2 x 360 boxes, Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Netflix
  • £26/month for 24 months — 1GB broadband only

I’m considering taking the £26 BB deal and moving the TV to Sky Ultimate at £69/month. That gives me Disney+, HBO Max, Discovery and TNT, and I prefer Sky’s TV interface. The downside is losing the second box unless I pay another £15/month.

So the difference is fairly small, and I’m not sure the hassle of switching is worth it.

What would you do?

  1. Should I wait for the formal OFCOM cancellation notice and try Virgin again? Is there realistically much chance of getting the £87 offer down?
  2. Is Sky Ultimate actually worth switching to for the extra content/interface?
  3. Or should I just take the £87 Virgin deal and be done with it?

Interested in what others have done recently with Virgin retentions.

Sky Sports €20 a month for 12 months

All sports an extra 15 - €35 a month for all sports is not bad - enough to keep me away from dodgy boxes.

Will still be cancelling from end of May.

Let’s hope they have the same deal for the beginning of next season.

A bit of cop on - if the price is reasonable a lot less people will actually subscribe. The music streaming model worked well when piracy used to be rampant

Sky stream being unusuable

I don’t have sky broadband. I know a lot of issues are being discussed about that.

My stream puck says I have a great WiFi connection. Yet, since Friday I haven’t been able to watch more than 90 seconds of TV without it crashing, stuttering, completely stopping, and then “no internet connection”

I haven’t reset the puck, updated it. Nothing. Re-paired it to my account and still the same shite.

Homepage says I need help getting connected then I get through and it’s saying the connection is absolutely fine. What a piece of junk.

How ironic that as soon as I paid my bill on Thursday it went down like this. So infuriating… is anybody else having this issue?

What's going on with Sky?

I'm in NW England and it's been days since the WiFi problems started. I've just about managed working from home but it regularly cuts out and has been really slow. Today my Sky stream (with the puck) has also been getting tons of errors. It's mostly on the streaming apps, but the Sky channels also stopped working for about an hour. I tried to look it up on the website or get help through the app and I get the maintenance message after signing in.

There are so many problems with Sky, and there's a special routine I need to do to get paramount+ to work, but this is unusual.

Does anyone have any idea why so much is affected at once?

VM Customer - Switching to SKY. Is service comparable?

Sharing offers below for visibility / to use in your own negotiations

VM Offer - £61;
1GB speed, Mega TV, UHD, Netflix Standard (No Ads), Sky Sports

Sky Offer - £65
900Mbps speed, Ultimate TV, UHD, Netflix Standard (No Adds), Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Sky Kids, Ad Skipping. Additionally first month Broadband free

Offer-wise Sky is £4 more a month for slightly slower (unnoticeable) speed, sky cinema, kids, and add skipping. With c.£20 broadband free for first month

Long time VM customer, now getting post acceptance fear as no issues with VM service. People naturally are more likely to complain on forums than praise, but am I wrongly assuming VM/Sky service will be comparable?

I think Sky should allow people who use Sky+ HD boxes without a subscription to pay a one-off fee to access features available to Sky+ HD box customers who have a subscription.

Hear me out: pay a one-time fee of 10 pounds and they can access the Sky+ features (like pause, record, and rewind) and catch-up services like BBC iPlayer.

past few days of Sky broadband issues?

my family and i have had problems with our broadband the past few days, Ive seen a few posts online from varying places of folks having the same issues:

Mobile phones connecting to wifi but not actually being connected (sites/videos/images not loading after being selected)

platforms such as PS5's also connecting but all online service games or games that require a server log in not being able to connect to the server. ive had 2 of them say my firewalls are causing potential issues but we've never touched the firewalls. i can join playstation parties but i get a notification saying i cant hear them do to network error>

the site said there was issues yesterday but now theyre all fine but that is not the case.
does anyone have any advice on what to do?

EDIT: in Scotland,Glasgow area

sky hd box no signal, initialising forever

Since Friday tried all the stats ups advised.. took out sky card. Changed to another box...NOTHING.... Sky are telling me they can't do anything more with my Sky+ HD box because the technology is too old.

They're saying they can't send engineers out for Sky+ HD anymore due to system upgrades, and that I may need to move to Sky Glass, Sky Stream or Sky Q.

What I don't understand is, if they knew this was coming, why are they still charging people for the service? And why wasn't there any clear warning that this could happen? I've had no advance notice at all.

So now I'm looking at alternatives. I definitely want something that can record. I know Sky Q is an option, but what else is out there? Virgin? NOW TV? Anything else worth considering?

What's everyone else's experience, particularly anyone who's moved away from Sky+ HD?

100% fixed price contracts?

I signed my last contract two years ago, yet I'm now paying almost £8/month more than I was on signing due to annual RPI inflation increases.

Could anyone recommend a provider that can offer FIXED prices throughout the contractual term? I could almost believe that this is the way Sky UK operates as there appears to be no mention of annual increases looking at their terms and conditions, however, a nice lady from their overseas call centre appeared to suggest that they did infact increase due to RPI. Any help would be really appreciated.
