Price rise

So I had an email telling me that my sky signature was going up by 4 quid and to either contact them or face price rise in 28 days.

So I agreed a new deal with them online which brought my sky signature down to 21.5 a month for the next 2 years. I have just looked at my bill and I'm being charged £32 a month? Is this normal, does it take time for the offers to come through or have they completely just done me over.

I’ve signed up to both Virgin Media and Sky broadband, going to cancel one, which would you cancel?

I’ve been with Virgin Media for 3+ years and had pretty much no issue with their internet connection. I moved a couple months ago and they’ve messed me around by not booking the installation on the correct date, then cancelling and not rebooking, and then when someone did come round they arrived 40 mins earlier than the 12-4 PM slot said they couldn’t do what they needed to do because they didn’t have time. 🤪 And had to put the router in a bad location of the property where there’s already a socket.

They also messed me around with renewing my contract which was coming to an end in May. It’s been at £39.40 for 1Gig + TV (even tho I don’t want or use the TV) and were telling me it’ll have to be around £83 for just 1Gig or around £73 for 1Gig + TV - that’s the renewal costs. 🥴 So I thought F this I’m going to switch provider.

I signed up for Sky Stream and Sky Broadband at the beginning of April. They’ve had to cancel and re-order the broadband literally FIVE times (which requires me to talk to them on the phone and go through the package and terms again). The first few times they said because Openreach were rejecting it but didn’t know why. Now they’re saying because the address on their system doesn’t match what I’ve provided even though it is my legit address (a 40+ y/o property). The most recent deal they offered me has been £26/month for 24 months for 900mbps with no increases. I have the installation booked in 13 days from today.

Got a bill from Virgin Media today saying I’m about to be charged £83. I was trying to switch before this would happen. 😩 I called them up and they’ve offered me £25/month for 1Gig for 24 months +£4 each April. They also booked in the correct installation needed which I chose to be in 14 days.

I have 14 days to cancel Virgin Media and could cancel Sky Broadband 31 days from the installation. I’ve put myself in a situation where if Sky mess it up again I will immediately cancel and keep Virgin Media. But if they get it sorted in time I could cancel Virgin Media.

What would you do? Wait to see if Sky can install in time or just go with Virgin Media?

Picture quality of Sky News on Freeview

Has anyone else noticed that the picture quality of Sky News via Freeview has gotten worse the last couple of days? Not sure how to explain it but it looks like lines going through the picture.

Who wants it?

Im seeing more and more isp's offering 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps and even a couple of 8Gbps packages. For me, I would love 5Gbps as I shift a lot of media content, hence why I can't wait for toobs 2300 that ive ordered.

Forgetting cost for a second, what would you want?

Sky sports UHD and stuttering PSA

Just a random one you may/probably already know.

If your football is stuttering in UHD try going in the Sky stream audio setting and changing the audio to PASSTHROUGH.

Completely fixed the issue I’ve been having on all UHD football and F1 since I joined months ago.

Playback is super smooth now.

Sending back to sky

I sent the router etc back to Sky last month and got email saying they got from Sky. Today I got an email saying they are going to charge me for the equipment they state they net got for some reason. I have 2 mobile sims from Sky and that’s it but when I try to call them I only get mobile connected and can’t get through unlike when I had broadband etc
I need a direct number for Sky that I can complain to and it’s an English speaker operator. Many thanks in advance.

Ditching Sky Stream for the Google TV Streamer 4K (UK) – Anyone made the switch?

Hey all,

I’m based in the UK, and it’s that time again—my Sky contract has come to an end and the renewal price is ridiculous. But it’s also brought the realization once again: why am I paying so much essentially to stream Freeview TV?

I’ve actually had Sky for years and years, pretty much since I was a child. I tend to go through this exact same "should I, shouldn't I" decision cycle every single time my contract is up. In the past, I’ve tried other UK solutions like EE TV (and BT TV back in the day), and I've even dabbled with Fire TV sticks, a Roku stick, and a Fire TV Cube. I never got on with any of them. At the time, I wasn't familiar with the software or the whole streaming concept, and I found those early sticks incredibly slow and buggy. Ultimately, I always ended up running straight back to Sky+, Sky Q, or whatever variation they had at the time.

However, now that I've become used to the streaming setup with Sky Stream, I can finally see the positives. I hardly ever watch live TV anymore, so an EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) isn't essential for me. I mostly just do a voice search for the show I want, or visit my playlist, select the show, and press play. I know I can still watch live TV if I really want to just by loading up specific apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, or Channel 4.

This brings me to why I'm researching now. I recently came across the Google TV Streamer (4K), which I wasn't at all familiar with. As far as I can tell, it’s more or less the same concept as Sky Stream, just Google and Android-branded.

My current streaming setup looks like this:

  • Freeview & Catch-up: 99% of what I watch is on normal Freeview apps anyway, including U (formerly UKTV Play).
  • Sky Content: For the handful of shows I watch on Sky, I’ve realized I can just use the NOW app. A NOW Entertainment membership for Sky Atlantic and Sky Max is far cheaper (usually no more than £10 a month, often less with deals) compared to my £40 Sky Stream renewal.
  • Prime Video: I hardly use it, but I get it included with my Amazon Prime membership anyway.
  • Disney+: I get this free through my bank account.
  • Netflix: I barely use it, but I don't mind paying for a basic plan as and when I need it for a couple of months to binge a specific series, and then cancel it.

The feature I'm most curious about: One feature I'm really keen on is the watchlist. Am I right in thinking I can add TV shows and films to my "Watchlist" on my phone via the Google app, and it will automatically sync straight to the streamer? If so, that would be perfect, as the lack of mobile syncing on Sky Stream drives me mad.

My questions for the community:

  • Has anyone else in the UK with a heavy Sky background made the jump from Sky Stream to Google TV?
  • Knowing that I hated old, slow streaming sticks but quite like the speed and feel of Sky Stream, how does the Google TV Streamer compare performance-wise?
  • Are you happy with the decision, or do you have any regrets?

Your views and opinions on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Query now or wait

Hi all

Decided to renew today and agreed all via live chat. Happy with the price albeit paying a premium for the Sky Q experience and the convenience.

Any way I’ve had the contract summary and the discounts are all wrong (eg I agreed gigafast at 30 and it is showing 52 normal price and 49 net price on the contract email).

They said it’d take 72 hours for expected bills to catch up so do I want until then or query this erroneous email immediately?

Sky Q Ultimate TV Pack

After doing the cancel and re subscribe dance, I received a price I was happy with.

My only issue was I couldn’t get Netflix associated with my account, so I was paying twice to both Sky & Netflix. I called in 5 times ,each time getting the foreign call centres, and having to explain the issue multiple times, no one could fix it. The solution the last agent came up with was to remove Netflix boost & the Ultimate TV Pack from my account, then disconnect the call. He said he would call back, but never did. My question, is there is anything else apart from Netflix I lose without having this pack? As far as I can see it is just a legacy package that Sky sold to you to enable Netflix for ‘free’.

Virgin to Sky Haggling

My contract for Virgin Media is up the beginning of July. Been given a ridiculously stupid offer, so going to switch to Sky instead.

There's a Sky stall near me. What price range would I be looking at for the following:

900mbps broadband

Ultimate TV with 2 stream boxes

Sky talk anytime

Parental Settings on SkyQ

Can someone tell me why my parental settings are continuing to persist even after switching off?

I switched them on when the kids were young so a pin was needed for anything 12 or over. They are now grown up so ive switched the 'Family setting' and 'Pre watershed playback pin' off in the Family management settings and set the ratings restriction to 'None'. I've left the 'Hide adult content' switched on. However, my box continues to ask for a pin for anything rated 12 or over at all times.

What is going on and how can i stop it.
